Etgar Keret is a famous Israeli writer whose family comes from Poland. He lives in Tel Aviv most of the year, but now he also has a new home in Warsaw. Mr Keret’s new residence is not exactly a normal house. To start with, the building is situated in a thin space between two other apartment buildings, three metres above street level. To enter, you have to climb a set of metal stairs before passing through a very small entrance. The house also has a rather strange shape – it’s a triangle! It is 9 metres high and the base is 10 metres long. However, what is really amazing is that it is only 1.2 metres wide – there is just enough room for an adult to spread their arms! As it’s so small, Mr Keret’s house only contains things that are absolutely essential. On the ground floor there is a toilet, a shower, a small kitchen, a table for two and a sofa. And on the first floor there’s a large bed, a desk and a chair. Mr Keret comes to Warsaw twice a year and he plans to live in his new home during his stay in the city. One thing is for sure: he isn’t going to have any big parties in his new residence! 1 Etgar Keret is a well-known Polish author. 2 His house in Warsaw is on the same level as the street. 3 The shape of the house is unusual. 4 The house has two floors. 5 Etgar Keret will live in his Polish house for two years. 6 The text contains an invitation to a party at Etgar Keret’s house. 4 can get together. at home. d Some colours can make the house look smaller. e A cool house should have a lot of furniture. It was a present from her partner. The futuristic residence took six years to build and looks like a spaceship. It has its own gym and swimming pool, a Finnish spa, a Turkish bath and a Russian bath. It also has two large white towers. The couple’s bedroom is located in one of them. 2 David and Victoria Beckham’s first home, called ‘Beckingham Palace’, was in Hertfordshire, near London. They sold it in 2012 because they decided to move to Los Angeles, where they lived in an Italian-style villa in Beverly Hills. They also own a house in the south of France and a luxury apartment in the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It is their second home in Dubai, as they also have a house on Palm Jumeirah, a man-made island shaped like a palm tree. 3 The most expensive house in the world is located in the city of Mumbai, India, and was built by India’s richest businessman, Mukesh Ambani. The building, called Antilia, is worth about $1 billion. Mr Ambani lives there with his wife and their three children. It has 27 floors, parking space for 168 cars, a small cinema, a recreation centre with a spa and a swimming pool, hanging gardens and a snow room where the family can enjoy artificial snow.
