PhD position at Faculty of Physics,
Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland
A PhD position is available at the Nanomaterial Physics Division, Faculty of Physics, Adam
Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, in the framework of the research project “Theoretical basics
of metasurface based quasi-volumetric structures for future multifunctional photonic and microwave
devices” financed by National Science Center Poland (DEC-2015/17/B/ST3/00118).
The project is dedicated to theoretical study of the advanced quasi-volumetric structures for future
photonic and microwave devices. The main objective of the project is to develop the general theory and
efficient design strategy for a new class of metasurface (planar metamaterial) based quasi-volumetric
structures that can be used as a proper platform for the advanced multifunctional devices. The project
will involve a mix of optical and microwave simulations (using commercial software like Lumerical and
CST Microwave Studio), analytical and semi-analytical work, and heuristic design.
A candidate for this position must have a master degree in physics (or its equivalent). Candidate is
preferable to have already acquired some experience of (i) doing research in the areas of metamaterials,
nanophotonics, plasmonics, or advanced electromagnetics, (ii) performing simulations with the aid of
commercial software, (iii) writing journal and conference papers and reports. Experience of efficient
combination of extensive numerical studies with analytical and literature work and good writing skills
are also valuable. Basic knowledge in optics, solid state physics, and/or electromagnetic wave theory is
required. He/she is expected to help in supervising and collaborating with a student hired later to work
on the same project.
Candidate will obtain a research scholarship (3000 PLN = approx. 670 Euro monthly) for a fixed term of
34 months, the expected starting date is March/April, 2016.
Interested applicants should submit:
a cover letter (including motivation to contribute to the project),
a CV, a brief statement of research interests,
a letter of reference,
and (if have) one or two representative publications
before the end of February 2016 to dr Andriy Serebryannikov (by email: [email protected] or by
post: dr Andriy Serebryannikov, Nanomaterials Physics Division, Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz
University in Poznan, Umultowska 85, 61-614 Poznan, Poland).
More detailed information can be obtained from dr. A. Serebryannikov ([email protected])
or prof. M. Krawczyk ([email protected], +48 61829 5060).
The recruiting procedure will follow the resolution No. 215/2015 of the Senat of Adam Mickiewicz
University in Poznan from 27.04.2015. Results of the competition will be announced at the beginning
of March.
