When Jesus cured the sick we called it a miracle. Yet God has
blessed us with many good things - our eyesight, our hearing,
our talents, our health and so much more - and we often take it
all for granted. The good steward recognizes every blessing in
life and a miracle from God and strives to use those gifts for
God’s honor and glory.

Those whom the LORD has ransomed will return and enter
Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy.

PROMISE FULFILLED
Today’s readings address the faithful one, the
one who waits on God but may not feel God’s
presence. Every person who seeks God has at one
time or another experienced the absence of God.
Jesus himself cried out during his dark night of
the soul.
The Epistle of James speaks to this. The author says the we
must be as patient as the silent, fallow earth that awaits the
slow, soaking rains of winter and the hard, necessary rains of
spring. As the farmer is sure of the precious yield of the land,
we can be sure of the precious yield of our patient waiting. God
is never far away.
The messengers wanted to hear the answer that the imprisoned John already knew. Everything that John said was finally
happening: because of Jesus, light shines in eyes; words of
promise are received; people leap and dance. The promise of
Isaiah is fulfilled in Jesus. Wobbly knees and feeble hands are
strong, the desert blooms, the savanna and steppe flower, the
darkness is chased away.
This week’s second collection is for the
Retirement Fund for Religious.
SCHOOL NEWS
Christmas Pageant—Sunday, December 15th at 2pm at
Bartlett High School auditorium, St. Joseph School students
will present the Christmas Show entitled “And Heaven and
Nature Sing!” Tickets are $5 per person and are available at the
school, rectory or on the day of the performance. This Christmas musical extravaganza will help us to enter into the Christmas Season. Christmas carols, sentimental melodies, traditional
scenery and above all the acting of young thespians will be entertaining and enjoyable to all. We kindly ask parishioners to
join our children and parents for this unique and spectacular
event.

Catholic schools play an essential role in the mission of the
Church. This past week we sent letters to all of our alumni of
St. Joseph School asking them to support the gym/cafeteria/
parish center. I am convinced that all of them will respond with
great enthusiasm and support. Perhaps some of them are your
children, brothers or sisters who have good memories of the
school. Please remind them of our needs. Remember the survival of any school depends on enrollment and financial support. In the spirit of Christmas we greatly appreciate your sharing and giving.

An annual Christmas Dinner for St. Joseph School Students, Faculty, Staff and Guests will be held on Wednesday,
Dec. 18th at 11:30am, compliments of Monsignor Czarnecki.
Christmas is a special time of family bonding through various celebrations. During the traditional Christmas Eve dinner
families break the wafer which symbolizes the sharing of joy
and love for each other. St. Joseph School is a family and at
this dinner we anticipate Christmas Eve and exchange best
wishes for a Blessed Christmas Season. Children learn through
positive examples, experiences and interactions with their
teachers who form their hearts through many interesting activities and events.
May God Bless the St. Joseph Family who learn and pray
together.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
Thank you to all who have already responded to the Angel
giving tree requests. You still have time this weekend to
choose an angel, place it on your purchased gift and put it
under the tree in the sanctuary by December 15th. Monetary
gifts should be brought to the sacristy or to the rectory.
Also, there area special envelopes on the “Angel Tree” that
will help seminarians in our Diocese. They would appreciate
your assistance.
CHRISTMAS PREPARATION
Novena to the Infant Jesus - begins Mon. Dec. 16th a traditional nine-day Novena of interrupted prayers. We will recite
Novena prayers on the weekend and week day Masses at
6:30am. The nine days before Christmas should be filled with
prayers, daily mass and performing good deeds.
Advent Confessions - on Monday Dec. 16th at 6pm we will
hold a Reconciliation evening for all parishioners. The celebration of the Sacrament of Penance in Polish American Communities is an integral part of preparation for Christmas Day. Visiting clergy will assist us for your convenience. We encourage
you to take advantage of the opportunity to receive forgiveness
for sins through God’s goodness and mercy.
UPCOMING MEETING
Parish Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 17th
at 6:30pm in the Conference room. We ask all the members to
be present.

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST JOSEPH
St. Joseph was an admirable model of many virtues of quiet
strength, integrity and fidelity. He was faithful not only in crucial
events surrounding Jesus’ birth, but also in the everyday demands
of home and work in Nazareth. Fidelity is faith in action in all the
events of daily life, big and small.
Integrity does not mean being stubborn or inflexible, but rather
whole or complete. St. Joseph demonstrated each of these traits.
Tradition tells us that he was a hard worker and a good provider for
the Holy Family. He was a man who was steadfast in his faith and
resolute in purpose.
During the Advent Season we give special attenation to our
Blessed Mother and St. Joseph.
On Wednesday, December 18th at 7:00pm we invite parishoners
to join us as members of the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club carry
our patron’s statue into the sanctuary. Please remember to write
your intentions on the request cards, provided in the Our Lady of
Czestochowa Chapel, to be offered during the Novena.

CD produced under the direction of our organist, Robert
Wojcik and our Basilica choirs. Our Choir was accompanied by
many talented musicians which makes this CD unique and
enjoyable. For a donation of only $10 you and your family will
enjoy the familiar melodies of the past with some new
selections. You may want to send one to a family member who
lives outside our area. CD’s are available at the rectory.

125th ANNIVERSARY BOOK
If you ordered The 125th Anniversary Book, you may pick up
the book at the rectory during our regular office hours. We do
have a few extra copies at a cost of $40 available at this time.
You will be surprised by all the facts and information
compiled and condensed by Joan Comeau and Sylvia Kitka
during the past twenty-five years. We recommend that every
family have a copy of this remarkable edition in their home so
the children and future generations will be aware of our
struggles, accomplishments and celebrations.
VOTIVE CANDLES AT THE ALTAR
Votive candles at the three altars are available to be reserved
for family members as a remembrance of their loved ones on
special occasions in their lives. Placing a votive light is a
demonstration of your faith and confidence in the mercy of
God. As you go about your daily tasks the flame of your votive
light constantly declares your prayerful petitions and prayers of
thanksgiving.
To request a votive light please contact the rectory. The
candle burns from Sunday through Saturday of any given week
for a donation of $25.
PIEROGI, CABBAGE AND KIELBASA SALE
The Home School Association will have frozen pierogi
(cheese or cabbage -$8 per dozen) kielbasa-full ring $6; halfring $4, kapusta $3 and kapusta & kielbasa-half ring $7 for sale

być dla uwięzionego Jana Chrzciciela znakiem, że
Jezus jest prawdziwym Mesjaszem. Stawajmy dziś przed
Panem nie jako duchowi bogacze, którzy sądzą, że mają dość
zasług, aby wymagać od Niego konkretnych łask, lecz jako
ubodzy, którzy oczekują Jego przyjścia z wiarą, odwagą

Nowenna do Dzieciątka Jezus - w poniedziałek 16 grudnia
rozpoczynamy tradycyjną modlitwę w ciągu dziewięciu dni
przed Świętami. Będziemy ją odmawiać po Mszy o godz. 06:30
codziennie oraz po Mszach w niedzielę.
Spowiedź Adwentowa - w poniedziałek 16 grudnia o godz.
18:00 rozpoczynamy spowiedź przedświąteczną dla wszystkich
parafian. Sakrament pokuty jest integralną częścią przygotowań
do świąt Bożego Narodzenia dla każdego chrześcijanina.
Zachęcamy do skorzystania z tej okazji, aby otrzymać
przebaczenie grzechów dzięki dobroci i miłosierdziu Bożemu.
SZKOŁY KATOLICKIE
Szkoły katolickie odgrywają kluczową rolę w misji Kościoła.
W ubiegłym tygodniu wysłaliśmy listy do wszystkich
absolwentów szkoły św. Józefa z prośbą o wsparcie budowy
centrum parafialnego, sali gimnastycznej i stołówki. Jesteśmy
przekonani, że wszyscy odpowiedzą z wielkim entuzjazmem i
wsparciem. Być może niektórzy z nich to twoje dzieci, twoi
bracia lub siostry, którzy mają silną emocjonalną więź ze
szkołą, w której spędzili swoje dzieciństwo. Prosimy o
przypomnienie im o naszych potrzebach. Pamiętajmy, że
przetrwanie naszej szkoły zależy od tego czy będziemy mieli
więcej uczniów i otrzymamy dodatkowe wsparcie finansowe.
W duchu Bożego Narodzenia jesteśmy bardzo wdzięczni za
dzielenie się i ofiarowywanie. Pamiętajmy, że darowizny na
szkołę można odpisać od podatków. Niech Bóg błogosławi
wszystkich parafian, przyjaciół i absolwentów szkoły św.
Józefa.
ANGEL GIVING TREE
Jak co roku w adwencie, przy prezbiterium i w wejściu do
Bazyliki znajdują się specjalne drzewka, które dają nam
możliwość lepszego odczucia ducha Bożego Narodzenia i
Adwentu poprzez odpowiedz na prośbę potrzebującego
człowieka. Poprzez udzielanie pomocy dzieciom i starszym
stajesz się aniołem mądrości, edukacji i miłości, który pozwala
innym odczuć radość czasu Bożego Narodzenia. Istnieje duże
zapotrzebowanie na pomoc w zapłaceniu czesnego dla rodzin,
które chcą, aby ich dzieci uczęszczały do szkoły św. Józefa, ale
zmagają się z poważnymi problemami ekonomicznymi.
Prezenty będą zbierane do 15 grudnia. Zapakowany prezent,
wraz z aniołkiem prosimy składać pod drzewkami w kościele.
Ofiary pieniężne prosimy przynosić do zakrystii lub na
plebanię. Wasze prezenty z pewnością wzbudzą uśmiech na
twarzach i radość w sercach potrzebujących, zwłaszcza dzieci.

BŁOGOSŁAWIEŃSTWO CHOINKI
Kierujemy serdeczne podziękowania dla wszystkich, którzy
zaangażowali się w zorganizowanie w ubiegłą sobotę
błogosławieństwa choinki przed bazyliką. Dziękujemy za
dekorowanie drzewka panu Eugeniuszowi Rudnickiemu. HSA
zapewniła przekąski dla naszych uczniów podczas oglądania
filmu "The Polar Express" podczas gdy dorośli uczestniczyli w
poczęstunku połączonym z losowaniem Wielkiej Loterii. To
był wieczór pełen wrażeń i emocji dla wszystkich w obecnych.
Niech Bóg błogosławi was wszystkich w okresie Bożego
Narodzenia oraz w Nowym 2014 Roku.
NOWENNA DO ŚWIĘTEGO JÓZEFA
Święty Józef jest godnym podziwu wzorem wielu cnót, cichej
siły, uczciwości i wierności. Był wiernym nie tylko w
momencie kluczowych wydarzeń otaczających narodziny
Jezusa, ale także w codziennych pracach dla zapokojenia
potrzeb domu w Nazarecie. Wierność jest wiarą ukazaną w
praktyce we wszystkich wydarzeniach życia codziennego,
dużych i małych. Tradycja mówi nam, że Józef był pracowity i
dobry dla Świętej Rodziny. Był człowiekiem, niezłomnym w

NOWA PŁYTA CD Z KOLĘDAMI
Z dumą prezentujemy nową płytę z kolędami nagraną pod
kierunkiem naszego organisty, Roberta Wójcika z udziałem
chóru naszej Bazyliki. Chórowi towarzyszyło w czasie nagrania
wielu utalentowanych muzyków, co sprawia, że prezentowana
płyta jest wyjątkowa i przyjemna w odbiorze. Płyty będzie
można nabyć w cenie 10 dolarów za sztukę. Płyty CD są
dostępne na plebanii.
Przypomnienie: Kunszt naszego chóru będziemy mogli
