Next Sunday, July 17th, at 4:00PM, Fr. Kevin San Jose
will be at St. Rose of Lima. He has a doctoral degree in
Music from the University of Miami and has performed
throughout the United States and Europe in various capacities. He is a concert pianist, organist, guitarist, and
singer/songwriter. Last year, he was commissioned to
write the 500th Anniversary Mass music for St. Teresa of
Avila. The present concert is a blend of soulful funk and
gospel music and is thematically about maintaining our
Catholic identity in the technological age.
Fr. Kevin, who uses the artistic name Fr. Kevin “San
Jose”, is originally from Long island, and is currently a
parish priest in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he resides and ministers.
A suggested $10 offering would be greatly appreciated. There will be a social at the end of the concert in the
Center. Please join us.

BE LIKE THE SAMARITAN
The parable in today’s Gospel is one of the best known
of all the teachings of Jesus. The term “Good Samaritan”
has been used to name various charitable organizations
and is even the official name of one state’s emergency
roadside assistance program that helps stranded motorists.
With the prevalence of the terminology used to describe
various activities in our day, we might be led to forget the
message of this Gospel passage. This man, this Samaritan,
was the only one who offered the beaten man help.
Samaritans, remember, were considered the lowest of the
low in the time of Christ. A good Jewish person would
not even have gone near a Samaritan for fear of being
rendered impure. The Samaritan was motivated solely by
the sense that the poor man needed help. He didn’t care
about religious or social status. And Jesus’ message is
that we are to do the same.

Though the New York State Thruway runs close by
the North American Martyrs’ Shrine, traffic’s roar never
pierces the peace enveloping Auriesville-Ossernon to
Native Americans—in the lovely Mohawk Valley, where
Kateri Tekakwitha was born barely ten years after the
martyrdom of Isaac Jogues and his Jesuit and lay
companions. Daughter of a Christian Algonquin mother
and non-Christian Mohawk chief, Kateri’s parents died in
a smallpox epidemic widely blamed on the missionaries.
Moreover, many Native Americans had experienced
exploitation at the hands of “Christian” traders and
trappers, further discrediting the faith Kateri embraced in
baptism, then pledged to live even more intensely in
vowed virginity. Misunderstanding led to harassment,
prompting her move to a Christian village farther north
along the Saint Lawrence River. Despite this, Kateri’s
faith remained undaunted, her selfless charity
undiminished. Both before and after her death at twentyfour, this young “Lily of the Mohawks” drew countless
converts to Christ by the fragrance of her goodness.
Through us, does “the aroma of Christ” (2 Corinthians
2:15), attract others to the beauty of his gospel?

Chrystus Jezus jest obrazem Boga niewidzialnego,
Pierworodnym wobec każdego stworzenia, bo w Nim
zostało wszystko stworzone: i to, co w niebiosach, i to, co
na ziemi, byty widzialne i niewidzialne, czy Trony, czy
Panowania, czy Zwierzchności, czy Władze. Wszystko
przez Niego i dla Niego zostało stworzone. On jest przed
wszystkim i wszystko w Nim ma istnienie. I On jest Głową
Ciała - Kościoła. On jest Początkiem, Pierworodnym
spośród umarłych, aby sam zyskał pierwszeństwo we
wszystkim. Zechciał bowiem Bóg, aby w Nim zamieszkała
cała Pełnia, i aby przez Niego znów pojednać wszystko z
sobą: przez Niego - i to, co na ziemi, i to, co w
niebiosach, wprowadziwszy pokój przez krew Jego krzyża.

(…) Jezus rzekł: Pewien człowiek schodził z
Jerozolimy do Jerycha i wpadł w ręce zbójców. Ci nie
tylko że go obdarli, lecz jeszcze rany mu zadali i
zostawiwszy na pół umarłego, odeszli. Przypadkiem
przechodził tą drogą pewien kapłan; zobaczył go i minął.
Tak samo lewita, gdy przyszedł na to miejsce i zobaczył
go, minął. Pewien zaś Samarytanin, będąc w podróży,
przechodził również obok niego. Gdy go zobaczył,
wzruszył się głęboko: podszedł do niego i opatrzył mu
rany, zalewając je oliwą i winem; potem wsadził go na
swoje bydlę, zawiózł do gospody i pielęgnował go.
Następnego zaś dnia wyjął dwa denary, dał gospodarzowi
i rzekł: Miej o nim staranie, a jeśli co więcej wydasz, ja
oddam tobie, gdy będę wracał. Któryż z tych trzech okazał
się, według twego zdania, bliźnim tego, który wpadł w
ręce zbójców? On odpowiedział: Ten, który mu okazał
miłosierdzie. Jezus mu rzekł: Idź, i ty czyń podobnie!

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Bóg zechciał, aby zbawienie było nam dane
w Jezusie Chrystusie i poprzez Niego. Poza Nim nie
narodził się nikt, kto przyniósłby nam wyzwolenie od
śmierci. Dopiero Jezus – oblicze niewidzialnego Boga,
pierworodny Syn – przyniósł nam WSZYSTKO, bowiem
„w Nim zamieszkała cała Pełnia”. Przyjął na siebie nasze
człowieczeństwo ze wszystkimi następstwami – życie,
cierpienia i śmierć – a zwyciężywszy, sprowadził na nas
pełnię łask. Od tej pory miłość i sprawiedliwość
spotykają się w miłosiernym Sercu Jezusa, który żyje,
aby nam udzielać siebie.

El próximo domingo, 17 de julio a las 4:00 PM, P.
Kevin San José estará en Santa Rosa de Lima. Tiene un
doctorado en Música de la Universidad de Miami y se ha
realizado en los Estados Unidos y Europa en varias capcapacidades. Él es un pianista de cocierto, organista,
guitarrista y cantante / compositor. El año pasado, fue
encargado de escribir la música para la misa 500
aniversario de Santa Teresa de Jesús. El presente
concierto es una mezcla del funk soul y la música gospel
y es temáticamente por mantener nuestra identidad
católica en la era tecnológica.
P. Kevin, que utiliza el nombre artístico P. Kevin "San
José", es originario de Long Island, y actualmente es
párroco en Las Cruces, Nuevo México, donde reside y
sirve.
Una oferta sugerido de $10 sería muy apreciada. Habrá
un social al final del concierto en el Centro. Por favor
únete a nosotros.
SÉ COMO EL SAMARITANO
La parábola en el Evangelio de hoy es una de las más
conocidas de todas las enseñanzas de Jesús. Se ha
utilizado el término “Buen samaritano” como nombre de
diversas organizaciones benéficas y es incluso el nombre
oficial de un programa de asistencia del estado para
emergencias en las carreteras que ayuda a automovilistas
varados. Con el predominio de la terminología utilizada
para describir diversas actividades de nuestro día, tal vez
nos olvidemos del mensaje de este pasaje del Evangelio.
Este hombre, este samaritano, fue el único que ofreció
ayuda al hombre golpeado. Recuerda que a los
samaritanos se los consideraba como lo más bajo de todo
en el tiempo de Cristo. Una buena persona judía ni
siquiera hubiera ido cerca de un samaritano por temor a
volverse impuro. El Samaritano fue motivado
exclusivamente porque sentía que el pobre hombre
necesitaba ayuda. No se preocupaba por la condición
religiosa o social. Y el mensaje de Jesús es que nosotros
debemos hacer lo mismo.
