Our nation celebrates LABOR DAY on Monday,
September 6, 2010 There will be only Mass
celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in our parish church.

and beginning of regular parish activities. You

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time: Luke 14::25-33
Jesus teaches about the demands of discipleship.
Background on the Gospel
In chapter 14 of Luke's Gospel, Jesus is speaking to people gathered at the table about the difficulties of following him. This group
of people is suspicious about Jesus, looking to catch him doing
something wrong. Jesus speaks to them in parables, emphasizing
that although there is a right way to be a disciple and enter into the
kingdom of his Father, it is a difficult path to follow. Many, even
some of the guests at the table, reject the invitation. So Jesus turns
to the crowds and speaks to them of discipleship. Jesus explains
that, when it comes to making a choice for the Kingdom of God,
nothing can get in the way. When Jesus describes “hating” one's
father and mother, he is not talking about feelings. Rather, he is
emphasizing very strongly that choosing to be a disciple means
that everything else—family, money, your own life—must come
second. In Matthew's version of this story (Matthew 10:37), Jesus
refers not to “hating” father or mother, but to loving them more than
Jesus. Jesus makes it very clear that being a disciple is not easy. It
means to bear one's own cross. These difficult sayings of Jesus
are followed by two brief parables (a person constructing a tower
and a king marching into battle) that make an obvious point—don't
start what you cannot finish. Discipleship is difficult and is something we can commit to only if we are prepared to put the Kingdom
of God before everything else.
Sangrelaya Mission Appeal, September 12, 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
My name is Jaroslav Jasso, CM and I am a missionary
priest from Slovakia working in Honduras. I will speak in all
masses about our mission and our project. We take responsibility for the huge territory of the diocese Trujillo. The place is
called Sangrelaya parish with others 25 parishes and about 25
000 people, poorest of the poorest. The majority is an ethnic
group named Garifuna. They speak Spanish but they have also
their own language and culture. The infrastructure doesn’t exist
there. Roads are terrible, many times without bridges. There is
no electricity there; there is no drinking water there. And there
is no house where to live. The old parish house is in the critical
condition and so we desperately need a new rectory. Moreover,
we would like also to have a place where we can meet people
and be able to listen to their needs. We plan to have there also
some rooms for the following activities: Bible studies and
theological formation, library, computer courses, English. The
whole center will be named Divine Mercy center because it
will be also the place where people will be able to learn the
history and religious devotion of Divine Mercy as it was told to
St. Faustina. For this moment because there is no place where
to stay, we live in a small temporally house, two members of
our Congregation of the Mission, in one village of 10000 people. When the center will be finished, another confrere from
our Congregation will come.

Prayer to End Abortion
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my
brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than
abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection
of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit
myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the
unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, and never to
stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our
nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice not just for
some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen!
St. Peter Claver
Feastday: September 9th
St. Peter Claver was born at Verdu, Catalonia, Spain, in
1580, of impoverished parents descended from ancient and
distinguished families. He studied at the Jesuit college of
Barcelona, entered the Jesuit novitiate at Tarragona in 1602
and took his final vows on August 8th, 1604. While studying
philosophy at Majorca, the young religious was influenced by St. Alphonsus
Rodriguez to go to the Indies and save "millions of perishing souls."
In 1610, he landed at Cartagena (modern Colombia), the principle slave
market of the New World, where a thousand slaves were landed every
month. After his ordination in 1616, he dedicated himself by special vow to
the service of the Negro slaves-a work that was to last for thirty-three years.
He labored unceasingly for the salvation of the African slaves and the abolition of the Negro slave trade, and the love he lavished on them was something that transcended the natural order.
Boarding the slave ships as they entered the harbor, he would hurry to the
revolting inferno of the hold, and offer whatever poor refreshments he could
afford; he would care for the sick and dying, and instruct the slaves through
Negro catechists before administering the Sacraments. Through his efforts
three hundred thousand souls entered the Church. Furthermore, he did not
lose sight of his converts when they left the ships, but followed them to the
plantations to which they were sent, encouraged them to live as Christians,
and prevailed on their masters to treat them humanely. He died in 1654

""El que no renuncie a todos sus bienes, no puede ser discípulo mío."
Jesús iba de camino acompañado por mucha gente. En esto
se volvió y dijo: Si alguno no me ama más que a su padre, a
su madre, a su esposa, a sus hijos, a sus hermanos y a sus
hermanas, y aún más que a sí mismo, no puede ser mi discípulo. Y el que no toma su propia cruz y me sigue, no puede
ser mi discípulo. Si alguno de vosotros quiere construir una
torre, ¿acaso no se sentaá primero a calcular los gastos y ver
si tiene dinero para terminarla? No sea que, una vez puestos
los cimientos, si no puede terminarla, todos los que lo vean
comiencen a burlarse de él, diciendo: “Este hombre empezó a
construir, pero no pudo terminar.” O si un rey tiene que ir a la
guerra contra otro rey, ¿no se sentará primero a calcular si con
diez mil soldados podrá hacer frente a quien va a atacarle con
veinte mil? Y si no puede hacerle frente, cuando el otro rey
esté todavía lejos, le enviará mensajeros a pedir la paz. Así
pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncie a todo lo que
tiene, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Mission Sangrelaya
Tendremos la visita del Padre Jaroslav Jasso el día Septiembre
12, 2010. El es un párroco misionero de Eslovaquia trabajando
en Honduras. El estará hablando durante las misas sobre su
misión y su proyecto en unas de las regiones más pobres en
Honduras. Le pedimos de su colaboración para apoyar a los
diferentes proyectos que se tienen planeados para esta comunidad, los cuales incluyen construir salones para dar clases bíblicas, una biblioteca, clases de computación e ingles, así como
habitaciones para los misioneros, puesto que actualmente viven en una pequeña casa temporal.

Natividad de la Santísima Virgen María
8 de Septiembre
La celebración de la fiesta de la Natividad de
la Santísima Virgen María, es conocida en
Oriente desde el siglo VI. Fue fijada el 8 de
septiembre, día con el que se abre el año
litúrgico bizantino, el cual se cierra con la
Dormición, en agosto. En Occidente fue
introducida hacia el siglo VII y era celebrada
con una procesión-letanía, que terminaba en
la Basílica de Santa María la Mayor.
El Evangelio no nos da datos del nacimiento de María, pero hay varias
tradiciones. Algunas, considerando a María descendiente de David,
señalan su nacimiento en Belén. Otra corriente griega y armenia, señala Nazareth como cuna de María.
Sin embargo, ya en el siglo V existía en Jerusalén el santuario mariano situado junto a los restos de la piscina Probática, o sea, de las
ovejas. Debajo de la hermosa iglesia románica, levantada por los
cruzados, que aún existe -la Basílica de Santa Ana- se hallan los restos de una basílica bizantina y unas criptas excavadas en la roca que
parecen haber formado parte de una vivienda que se ha considerado
como la casa natal de la Virgen.
Si pensamos por cuántas cosas podemos hoy alegrarnos, cuántas
cosas podemos festejar y por cuántas cosas podemos alabar a Dios;
todos los signos, por muchos y hermosos que sean, nos parecerán
tan sólo un pálido reflejo de las maravillas que el Espíritu de Dios hizo
en la Virgen María, y las que hace en nosotros, las que puede seguir
haciendo... si lo dejamos.

Wielkie tłumy szły z Jezusem. On zwrócił się i rzekł do nich:
”Jeśli kto przychodzi do Mnie, a nie ma w nienawiści swego ojca
i matki, żony i dzieci, braci i sióstr, nadto i siebie samego, nie
może być moim uczniem. Kto nie nosi swego krzyża, a idzie za
Mną, ten nie może być moim uczniem.
Bo któż z was, chcąc zbudować wieżę, nie usiądzie wpierw, a
nie oblicza wydatków, czy ma na wykończenie? Inaczej gdyby
założył fundament, a nie zdołałby wykończyć, wszyscy patrząc
na to zaczęliby drwić z niego: »Ten człowiek zaczął budować, a
nie zdołał wykończyć«. Albo który król, mając wyruszyć, aby
stoczyć bitwę z drugim królem, nie usiądzie wpierw i nie rozważy, czy w dziesięć tysięcy ludzi może stawić czoło temu, który z
dwudziestu tysiącami nadciąga przeciw niemu? Jeśli nie, wyprawia poselstwo, gdy tamten jest jeszcze daleko, i prosi o warunki
pokoju.
Tak więc nikt z was, kto nie wyrzeka się wszystkiego, co posiada, nie może być moim uczniem”.

Czy Jezus zachęca do nienawiści?!
Jezus wyjaśnia, iż każdy, kto nie żegna się ze
wszystkimi, to znaczy
nie wyrzeka się wszystkich, nie stanie się Jego
uczniem. Nienawiść, o
której mówi Jezus, jest
raczej rodzajem rozstania się niż nienawiścią
w pełnym tego słowa
znaczeniu. Dlaczego
więc to oderwanie się od
więzi rodzinnych nazywa nienawiścią? Nienawiść jest, jak wiemy,
niezwykle silnym uczuciem, które angażuje całego
człowieka do odrzucenia czegoś lub kogoś. Chodzi
raczej o odżegnanie się od kogoś z mocą porównywalną do nienawiści niż o samą nienawiść, bo wtedy
tekst byłby w dużej sprzeczności z przykazaniem
miłości.Niekiedy Jezus używał przesady dla podkreślenia ważności i konieczności przyjęcia pewnych
postaw. Na przykład mówił, że jeśli oko jest nam
powodem do grzechu, trzeba je sobie wyłupać, albo
jeśli ręka jest powodem do grzechu, to trzeba ją sobie odciąć. Nie jest to zachęta do samookaleczeń,
lecz do zdecydowanego zerwania z przyczyną grzechu, jego źródłem albo z samym grzechem, bez którego, jak nam się wydaje, nie potrafilibyśmy już
funkcjonować normalnie.

wrześniu siewy, święto nosi nazwę Matki Bożej
Siewnej, a w kościołach poświęca się ziarno siewne.
