The 1,000 metre distance race gathered nine sports teams, including the famous teams from the Cambridge University Boat Club and Oxford University Boat Club as well as Polish teams from the Universities of Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Wrocław, Warsaw and Kraków (the AGH University of Science and Technology and two teams from the Jagiellonian University). The Regatta was officially opened by Prof. Maria Flis, Vice-Rector for University Development. Firstly, the teams competed in three groups, in a round-robin tournament. The winners were the teams from the Mikołaj Kopernik University of Toruń, the Kazimierz Wielki University of Bydgoszcz and the University of Oxford. The Jagiellonian University team was also qualified to the semi-finals, which were organised in a play-off system: the Mikołaj Kopernik University won against the Jagiellonian University while the University of Bydgoszcz prevailed over Oxford. Then the teams competed for the third place and the winner was the team of the University of Oxford. The Grand Final was a very exciting race, and it was the team of the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń that won the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Cup. Moreover, this team received the JU Chancellor’s Cup as they were the fastest to complete their runs. The JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak handed commemorative medals to the members of all the teams participating in the Regatta. He also announced that the boat race would be organised again next year. The Regatta gathered hundreds of viewers and fans who could spend that sunny Sunday morning on the banks of the Vistula River. Apart from observing the 13 races they could test their mettle in ‘dry paddling’ – 650 metres on stationary ergometers. Those ventures could compare their results with the results of the Polish rower Adam Korol (winner of the gold medal in quadruple sculls at the 2008 Summer Olympics), who was present at the Regatta. Last but not least, the main organiser of this fifth race was the JU Sports Office Team, supporting the University Sports Organisation and helping in all sports and recreation activities at the Jagiellonian University.
