Fifty days after Easter Sunday we celebrate the fulfillment of all God’s promises in the feast of Pentecost, a feast that has sometimes been called the birthday of the church. One last time we are reminded that we Christians have received the Holy Spirit, not for our own benefit, but to enable us to follow our Christian vocation. Paul’s letter shows us the gifts and fruits that the Holy Spirit gives to us. John’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus has sent all his disciples to share his forgiveness and peace, through the power of the Holy Spirit. The second collection this weekend is designated for the Catholic Communication Campaign Next weekend, the first Sunday of the month, the second collection is for the Diocesan Obligations. CLERGY CHANGES Springtime is the time for many changes of the clergy in the Diocese of Worcester. This year our parish community is affected. I have been notified by Bishop McManus that Father Ryszard Polek is being transferred to Our Lady of Czestochowa in Worcester. He served in our parish for five years and in order to become a pastor he has to experience pastoral ministry in a different parish at least for a brief period of time. I know that Father Ryszard will be greatly missed by our parishioners. He was responsible for the Altar Servers, Children’s liturgy and masses at the nursing homes. In addition he was assisting the Director of Religious Education. I want to take this opportunity to thank Father Ryszard for his dedication and service extended to the parish and to me. May this ministry in a new parish be a source of pastoral success and personal fulfillment for Father Ryszard. His transfer is effective on July 1, 2009 and will be published in the Catholic Free Press next week. We wish Father Ryszard many blessings of God in the new parish. A farewell reception will be held on Sunday, June 21st following the 11 am Mass in the school cafeteria or conference room. – Rev. Msgr. Anthony Czarnecki CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS CAMPAIGN Support from the Catholic Communications Campaign is vital to help the Catholic Church have a voice in social communications including cable TV, radio, the internet, and various news media. Thank you in advance for your generous support this weekend in helping us fund both local and national programming and web productions. Bishop McManus writes: “I invite you to learn more about Catholic Communications from the handout located at the entrances to the church and at our website worcesterdiocese.org” FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin Friday, June 5th, following the 7 a.m. Mass and continue throughout the day concluding with benediction at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to join with us in prayer. If you would like to become an adorer, please call Theresa Jankowski at 508-943-5355. Page 3 May 31, 2009 - 31 May 2009 r. Stewardship Note. “........there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” Corinthians 12:4-6 By giving each of us different gifts, God made sure that the Church would have the combination of talent and treasure that was needed to do God’s work. However, what happens if one of us does not bring our contribution to God’s altar? God’s plan is not fulfilled. Some important work is left undone. A Prayer to the Spirit. Holy Spirit, who sent Christ Jesus to carry the good news to the poor, we pray to you: Help us to continue your work by serving the poor, our brothers and sisters. CORPUS CHRISTI - BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST Bishop Daniel P. Reilly is the main celebrant and homilist for the Corpus Christi solemnity on June 14 at the 11 a.m. liturgy. We kindly invite all the parish organizations with their banners and medals, Parish Council, altar servers, Boy Scouts, Children of First Communion class and Children of Mary to take part in this annual outdoor tribute to the Blessed Sacrament. We ask the members of the choirs to follow the celebrant to provide liturgical singing. SAINT JOSEPH BASILICA PARISH FESTIVAL Publicity. By 6 weeks plus 2 days after conception the brain waves on an unborn child can be recorded by EEG (electroencephalogram.) The Endowment for Human Development SCHOOL NEWS Memorial Day Parade. St. Joseph School participated in the Memorial Day parade with the supervision of many parents. The float was beautifully decorated under the direction of Cindi Gardner, assisted by Cynthia and Al Soto, Stephanie Fassulo, Anna Piascik and Ewa Mamro. I want to thank them for their interest and hard work to honor the veterans who so proudly served our country. It was gratifying to see the children with big smiles and enthusiasm taking part in the town parade. Once again, this is an example that the school is teaching not only academics but also instills the spirit of patriotism and involvement in the community events. Science Fair. On Tuesday, May 26th, the Diocese of Worcester Middle School Science Fair was held at the Plourde Center on the campus of Assumption College in Worcester. Each school’s local science fairs determined which projects had the opportunity to participate on the diocesan level. Katie Konieczny, a 7th grader, was presented the 3rd place trophy for her project titled “Will home remedies work as well or better than antacids to treat heartburn?” at her grade level. Katie has followed up her similar success of 2007 when she also took home a 3rd place award at the Grade 5 level. Congratulations Katie on another super job! Also representing Saint Joseph School were the following students: Grade 5-Adam Grzyb, Nathan Phelps, Jessica Recko. Grade 6-Artur Lachcik, Dylan Murphy, Jacob Murphy, Kacper Puczydlowski, Matthew Sabacinski. Grade 8-Aaron Holmberg, Blair Reilly. ST. We were able to raise enough money to provide one additional scholarship for a returning student to St. Joseph School. With the completion of the returning student list, the scholarship will be drawn. Thanks for your support of St. Joseph School. – Ronald Ducharme, Grand Knight PARTNERS IN CHARITY We proudly announce that Saint Joseph Basilica finally reached our quota for the 2009 Partners in Charity Appeal. In fact, we exceeded our goal due to major donations from several dedicated individuals who so generously responded to the needs of the diocesan community. Our goal was $20,250 and we collected $21,014. Special recognition is given to St. Anne Society for their generous donation. We take this opportunity to thank each one of you for your spirit of stewardship, and placing our Basilica among the diocesan parishes who have reached their goal. – Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin, Chairpersons Message from Msgr. Tony. I am very proud of our parishioners who despite economic difficulties responded to the needs of others by surpassing the diocesan quota. The untiring effort of the chairpersons Betty and Carolyn is the major part of our success. May God continue to bless each one of them for their dedication. A SECRET. The secret of happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles. – Anon. Page 4 BINGO EVERY SUNDAY AT ST. Okres Wielkanocny i czas Komunii Świętej wielkanocnej. Zgodnie z przykazaniami kościelnymi, każdy Katolik ma obowiązek przynajmniej raz w roku przystąpić do spowiedzi świętej, a w okresie wielkanocnym, przyjąć Komunię Świętą. Kościół dzisiaj zwraca się do wiernych, którzy dźwigają ciężar cierpienia i choroby o ofiarowanie swoich modlitw i cierpień w intencji misji katolickich w świecie. PIERWSZY PIĄTEK W tym tygodniu wypada pierwszy piątek miesiąca, a zatem zapraszamy do udziału w adoracji Najświętszego sakramentu w ciągu dnia. O godz. 3.00 po południu Koronka do Miłosierdzia Bożego i zakończenie adoracji. Wieczorem, o godz. UROCZYSTOŚĆ BOŻEGO CIAŁA W niedzielę 14 czerwca obchodzimy Uroczystość Bożego Ciała połączoną z tradycyjną procesją Eucharystyczną do 4 ołtarzy. Ks. Ryszard przechodzi do nowej parafii z dniem 1 lipca 2009. W ubiegły piątek wieczorem, młodzież z klasy 8 miała okazję do wyrażenia wdzięczności rodzicom, dziadkom i opiekunom.
