SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
July 22, 2012
Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise
up a righteous shoot to David. —Jeremiah 23:5a
THE DAYS ARE COMING
Separation, isolation, and hostility are terrible things. We
are, sadly, too familiar with all of them in our modern life,
whether we look at world events or events in our own neighborhoods and families. All three readings today refer to these
same sad human conditions.
The prophet Jeremiah describes world conditions as if the
people of his time were sheep who had been scattered by poor
leadership and corrupt shepherds. But “the days are coming,”
he assures us when a new shepherd, a just king, will come. We
meet that king in the second reading and the Gospel. Paul reminds us in the Letter to the Ephesians that all divisions can
now cease in Christ Jesus, who has brought us together through
his blood. In Mark’s Gospel we see Jesus himself, looking with
pity on those searching for him as if they were sheep without a
shepherd.
St. Anne Society Annual Communion Mass—will be held
on Sunday, July 29th at 8:15am Mass. All members are asked
to attend and wear your medals. A complimentary breakfast
will follow in the school cafeteria for all parishioners.
Reminder—Novena to St. Anne is continuing every day this
week after 6:30am Mass. Across the Catholic Church prayers
and novenas to Saints are a major part of devotional practices.
Martyrs and Saints are the heroic witnesses of Jesus Christ in a
particular epoch or time. The most popular are those who are
most intimately connected to the life of Jesus Christ—Our
Blessed Mother, St. Joseph and St. Anne.
BASILICA ENTRANCE UPDATE
The work at the entrance of the Basilica this week was focused on the electrical components. The pipes with electrical
wires were placed underground and connected to the rectory.
The work will be completed this week and the lights on the
pillars will be installed when they arrive. We still have to develop and install new rails.
I am most grateful to the parishioners who understand the
need for the upgrade of this original landscape and faithfully
contributed toward the Jubilee Fund. May God bless your generosity and the spirit of concern for St. Joseph Basilica.

FESTIVAL UPDATE
Our 39th Annual Parish Festival was a success due to the support of our parishioners, parents of our school children and
many volunteers. This year we were pleased that many vibrant
young people joined our team. In your bulletin insert you will
find a financial report and interesting data on this year’s and
last year’s festival prepared by our Treasurers, Tom & Connie
McNally. We are grateful for their countless hours spent on
this project.
JUBILEE COMMITTEE NEWS
The Jubilee Committee members will be selling TOTE
BAGS after all Masses this weekend. These attractive all purpose canvas bags with the Basilica and School Logo are priced
at $15 each or 2 for $28.
The next Jubilee Committee meeting will be held on Wed.,
July 25 at 6:30pm. at the rectory.
PARTNERS IS CHARITY
We are pleased to report that we collected $25,032 towards
our goal of $25,000 for the Diocesan Partners in Charity quota.
I am extremely grateful to all our parishioners for their sensitivity to the needs of the diocesan church. We are most appreciative to our chair persons, Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin
for their diligence and dedication in making our parish a 100%
partner in the Diocese of Worcester.
PILGRIMAGE TO OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA
SHRINE, DOYLESTOWN, PA.
The Jubilee Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Czestochowa in
Doylestown will take place on Sat., and Sun., Aug. 25th &
26th. The itinerary includes a tour of the Amish Country with
traditional fare on Sat., and the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on Sun. This two-day excursion offers us a cultural and
religious experience. This Jubilee Year gives us the opportunity to undertake this journey on behalf of the entire parish,
carrying our personal intentions and our community hopes to
the Blessed Mother Shrine.
Pilgrimages associated with the life and death of Jesus Christ
were first organized during the first centuries. Pilgrimages to
martyrs and saints followed suit and today the pilgrimage
movement is a highly dynamic institution. Every year The
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington attracts
about 1million people— The Shrine of Divine Mercy in Lagiewniki, Poland about 2 million—The Shrine in Czestochowa,
Poland about 5 million per year. People come not only to obtain needed graces in their life, but to express gratitude for
blessings received. The Holy Rosary Society is sponsoring
this trip and we ask you to call President, Betty Sabaj at (508)
943-8570 or the rectory to sign up as soon as possible. Fr.
Gregory will be the spiritual leader.
Cost of the trip is $230 which includes transportation, accommodations and meals. For logistic purposes please make
your deposits before Tues. July 24th.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: Despite the hot summer
months the new school year is approaching very quickly. At
the present time we are making improvements and refurbishing
the school to welcome our incoming students into inviting and
appealing classrooms. The structure of St. Joseph School itself
is very accommodating with its large corridors, sunny classrooms and colorful walls. Nevertheless, each year we make
every effort to clean and wax the corridors, shine the hardwood
floors and repaint some walls.
We are continuing to accept students to all grades as we previously stated and in the lower grades (Pre-K, K, Gr. 1 & Gr. 2)
there are only a few spaces available.
JUBILEE YEAR
A Jubilee is an anniversary of a certain event which played an
important role in the life of a country, community or individual.
We celebrate the birth of our country on July 4 , we celebrate
events which had the power to define the life of our country or
the world and couples also celebrate the day of their marriage.
A Jubilee is not only a remembrance of an event but is an important occurrence in the life of a given community, family or
individual. In the old testament in the Book of Leviticus 25:810, a jubilee is considered as a “Year of Grace” from the Lord.
Christ came to announce a “Year of grace” from God, Lk 4,19.
The Jubilee is not only a space of time but what happened in
that span of time. Preparation of a Jubilee should usher us into
a renewed reality of our heart, of our family and our parish.
Jubilee work hinges on these three levels. It is my hope that
this year we will increase our faith in our family, revive our
participation in the religious life of our parish and reveal our
love to God through our harmonious work on behalf of our St.
Joseph Basilica Community and School.

Catholicism Series at Christ the King Parish, Worcester;
July 23: “The Indispensable Men: Peter, Paul and the
Missionary Adventure”
July 30: “A Body Both Suffering and Glorious: The
Mystical Union of Christ and the Church”. Programs begin at
7:00pm and conclude at 8:30pm. All are welcome.
Men’s Cursillo Weekend - To be held July 26-29, 2012 at
Assumption College in Worcester. Cursillo or “short course in
Christianity” is a three day experience that can best be
described as uplifting and well thought-out. It is a teaching

The Holy Rosary Sodality-will be sponsoring a Memorial
Organ Concert at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2012 as

PIEROGI SALE
During this weekend following the Saturday Mass and
Sunday morning Masses some frozen pierogi ($8 per dozen)
will be available at the school. Also small containers of frozen
cabbage are for sale.
PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE IS EVERYONE’S
RESPONSIBILITY
It is every adult’s moral responsibility to protect the children
from becoming possible victims by reporting the suspected
abuse or neglect to the responsible authorities. Sexual abuse of
minors is a pervasive societal problem, and only concerted and
sustained efforts by all adults in every segment of society can
help to protect children and youth. For particular help you may

CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP
Youth Group Summer Play-The Webster Youth Group will
perform the family comedy play “Help! I’m Trapped in a High
School” on Fri., Aug. 10 at 7:00pm and Sunday, Aug. 12 at
2:00pm. The shows will be performed at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal center at 600 Liberty Highway (Rte.

Hospice Volunteers-SolAmor Hospice is looking for volunteers to visit patients under hospice care in nursing homes in the
Central & Western Mass. area for a minimum of 1 hour a week.
Volunteers are formally trained and are a valued part of the
interdisciplinary team in serving patients at the end of life. If

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
SŁOWO BOŻE. Izolacja i wrogość są bardzo negatywnymi
cechami. Niestety, w dzisiejszym świecie, bardzo często się z
nimi spotykamy zarówno na płaszczyźnie światowej, jak też
lokalnej, czy nawet rodzinnej. Wszystkie dzisiejsze czytania
nawiązują do tych smutnych dla człowieka sytuacji.
Prorok Jeremiasz porównuje sytuacje ludzi na świecie
do porzuconych owiec, które się pogubiły przez złych i
skorumpowanych pasterzy. Obiecuje im jednak, że „nadejdą
dni”, kiedy przyjdzie nowy pasterz, sprawiedliwy king. W
drugim czytaniu w Liście do Efezjan św. Paweł przedstawia
tego Króla i tłumaczy, że wszystkie poróżnienia powinny się
skończyć, gdyż Jezus Chrystus połączył nas i odkupił swoją
krwią. W Ewangelii św. Marka widzimy samego Jezusa
patrzącego z pożałowaniem na tych, którzy Go szukają jak
owce, które nie mają pasterza.
RENOWACJA WEJŚCIA. W tym tygodniu prace przy
wejściu do Bazyliki skupiały się głównie na elektryce. Rurki z
przewodami zostały umieszczone pod ziemią i podprowadzone
do plebanii. W tym tygodniu zakończymy te prace, jak też
zainstalujemy lampy na słupach, jak tylko zostaną nadesłane.
Następnie będziemy musieli zamontować poręcze.
Jestem bardzo wdzięczny parafianom, którzy
rozumieją potrzebę ulepszenia krajobrazu wokół bazyliki,
szczególnie teraz w roku jubileuszowym, i regularnie składają
ofiary na ten specjalny Fundusz. Niech dobry Pan Bóg obdarzy
Was łaskami za ofiarność i ducha troski o naszą Bazylikę.
TOWARZYSTWO ŚW. ANNY zaprasza na Mszę św. w
niedzielę, 29 maja o 8:15. Członkowie powinni przyjść ze
swoimi medalami. Po Mszy św. parafianie, którzy uczestniczyli
w tej Mszy św. zaproszeni są na bezpłatne śniadanie do
kafeterii szkolnej.
Przypominamy, że w tym tygodniu po porannych
Mszach św. o 6:30 odmawiamy Nowennę do św. Anny, która
była matką Maryi, Matki Jezusa, by za jej pośrednictwem
prosić o potrzebne nam łaski.
FESTIWAL. Nasz 39 festiwal parafialny odniósł wielki
sukces dzięki pracy i wsparciu wielu parafian, rodziców
uczniów naszej szkoły jak też innych wolontariuszy. Cieszymy
się, że w tym roku dołączyło do tego grona wiele młodych i
energicznych osób. W biuletynie znajduje się wkładka z
raportem finansowym z festivalu przygotowanym przez
księgowych Tom i Connie McNally. Jesteśmy im wdzięczni za
wielogodzinną pracę przy festiwalu i prowadzenie rachunków.
SPRZEDAŻ PIEROGÓW. W ten weekend po Mszy sw. o 4
pm. w sobotę i po porannych Mszach św. w niedzielę będzie
można zakupić mrożone pierogi po $8 za tuzin w szkolnej
kafeterii. Dostępne będzie też kilka pojemników kapusty.

już formy spisu parafialnego. Rada Parafialna jest bardzo

CZĘSTOCHOWSKIEJ W DOYLESTOWN, PA
Przypominamy, że zapisy na tę jubieluszową pielgrzymkę

SZKOŁY.
Mimo
gorących
miesięcy
letnich
przygotowujemy budynek szkolny na przyjęcie studentów. Sam
budynek jest bardzo przyjazny z dużymi korytarzami,
słonecznymi klasami i kolorowymi ścianami. Każdego roku
jednak polerujemy korytarze i malujemy niektóre ściany, aby
dzieci z radością wracały do szkoły po wakacjach.
Przypominam, że nadal przyjmujemy uczniów do
wszystich klas, z tym, że miejsca szczególnie w przedszkolu i
klasach młodszych szybko się wypełniają. Prosimy
zainteresowane osoby dzwonić do szkoły po aplikajce
najszybciej jak to możliwe.
KONCERT ORGANOWY. Bractwo Różańcowe sponsoruje i
zaprasza na koncert organowy, który będzie w niedzielę, 23
września o 3 p.m. w bazylice w ramach obchodów Roku
Jubieluszowego. Prosimy zarezerwować sobie tę datę.
OCHRONA DZIECI. Moralnym obowiązkiem każdego
dorosłego jest zgłoszenie do władz zaniedbania, czy też
znęcania się na dziećmi. Szczególnie wykorzystywanie
seksualne jest perwersyjnym faktem w dzisiejszym świecie i
tylko poprzez konkrenty wysiłek wszystkich dorosłych, na
każdym szczeblu społecznym, możemy zapewnić dzieciom
