We were able to fill 30 bags of Thanksgiving "fixins" and donate the surplus items to Metro Catholic Elementary School which amounted to approximately $400.00. More importantly, you helped families to enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving. As we begin a new Church year the Social Concerns theme will be WE ARE CALLED TO GIVE OF OUR TIME, TREASURE AND TALENT. We will be making sock snowmen to be distributed to the residents of Mt. Alverna Nursing Home on December 6th after the Saturday evening Mass. All materials will be provided. All that is needed is your time and talent. The Giving Tree is back! We will be contributing to the Christmas Outreach Program at Metro Catholic Elementary School. The tags on the tree indicate some of the items that are needed. So that the gifts can be distributed in a timely manner our deadline for donations will be Sunday, December 14th. All that is needed is your treasure. POINSETTIA SALE The ST. BARBARA PARISH GUILD is sponsoring the “Annual Christmas Poinsettia Sale”. You may dedicate your poinsettia “In memory” of a deceased loved one or “in Honor” of a living relative or friend. A dedication card will be attached to each flower. The poinsettias will be displayed during the Christmas Season. The flowers may be removed the weekend of January 10, 2015. The cost of a 7 ½ inch Red Poinsettia is $13.00 each. Payment in cash or check (made payable to “St. Barbara Parish Guild”) is required at the time the order is placed. An envelope with payment and order form (marked for “Poinsettia Sale”) can be dropped in the collection basket. Deadline for orders will be December 7, 2014. Order forms are available on the table at the west entrance of the church. Sunday, November 30, marks the feast of St. Andrew. Happy Name Day to Fr. Andrzej Panek and to all the Andrzejs and Andrews in our parish! While the feast day for our patron saint, St. Barbara, is no longer on the church calendar, the traditional date to celebrate is December 4. Happy Name Day to all the Barbara’s in our parish! And we can’t forget the feast day of St. Nicholas on December 6. So happy Name Day to all those in our parish named Nicholas as well! St. Nicholas (Sw. Mikolaj) will be making a special appearance at our church on Sunday, December 7, at 11:00 a.m. Polish Mass. OD KS. ANDRZEJA … Sw. W Kosciele katolickim sw. Mikolaj jest patronem zeglarzy, piekarzy, kupcow oraz wiezniow. Jest tez szczegolnym opiekunem zwierzat domowych i ptakow. Lud Polski i Ukrainy wierzy gleboko, ze swiety posiada wladze poskramiania wilkow. Zwyczaj obdarowywania sie podarkami pochodzi z XIII wieku. Wprowadzono go najpierw w szkolach w formie stypendiow i zapomog dla biednych uczniow. Z biegiem czasu przeniesiono ten zwyczaj na wszystkie dzieci w szkolach.
