MILK CONTROLLER technical data sheet electronic controller for refrigerating units milk preservation oriented EWPX MILK CONTROLLER controller for refrigerating units milk preservation oriented GENERAL DESCRIPTION The instrument provides an input probe for temperature control, and three output relays for the compressor, the agitation system and the management of the alarms. As a standard feature it can be connected to the Televis system (by means of the specific interface module). The instrument can be configured according to its application by means of a series of parameters. The instrument comes in the standard ELIWELL 32x74 mm format. COMMANDS ON FRONT PANEL The instrument is provided with two keys: “UP” and “SET/DOWN”. SET/DOWN: by pressing this key the Setpoint is displayed. The same key can be used to decrease the values during Setpoint change or parameters programming. UP: button used to increase values. Used to change both the Setpoint and the parameters. This key also permits manual activation of the agitation cycle. “COMPRESSOR” LED: LED linked to the compressor relay. Lit up when the compressor is working. “SET” LED: permanently lit up during Setpoint display and programming, flashes during parameter programming. “AGITATION” LED: LED associated with the agitator. Lit up when the cycle is underway, flashes in the event of manual activation of said cycle. “ALARM” LED: LED associated with the alarm. It is on when the alarm is active, and flashes when the alarm has been silenced. DISPLAYING AND SETTING OF THE SETPOINT In order to display the Setpoint value, press and release the “SET/DOWN” key; the Setpoint value will appear on the display and the "SET" LED will light up. To change the Setpoint value operate on the “UP” and “SET/DOWN” keys within 10 seconds. If no action is taken on the keypad within this time, normal mode will be restored. MANUAL ACTIVATION OF THE AGITATION CYCLE Manual activation of the agitation cycle is obtained by keeping the “UP” key pressed down for over 7 seconds (this key is not active during Setpoint or parameter programming). Activation of the agitation cycle may also be started on closure of the specific digital input. SILENCING THE ALARM An alarm status is signalled by the lighting up of the “ALARM” LED and activation of the related relay. The alarm can be silenced by pressing one of the two keys on the front panel; the relay will be disabled, while the LED will flash as long as the alarm status continues. KEYPAD LOCKING Appropriate programming of the "Loc" parameter allows the user to disable the keypad so as to avoid undesired use of the functions or parameters of the instrument. When the keypad is disabled, the Setpoint and the parameters can only be displayed (and not changed); the only exception is the “Loc” parameter itself, which can be used to unlock the keypad. PASSWORD TO ACCESS PARAMETER PROGRAMMING A password can be set to allow access to the parameter programming phase. In order to set (or change) the password simply access the “PAS” parameter and key in a number from 1 to 15 (by setting the value 0 the password is disabled). The password will be enabled on exiting the parameter programming phase. EWPX MILK CONTROLLER Rel. 01.00 03- 2000 / Eng release 01.00 03-2000/ Eng cod. 9IS21005 If a password has been enabled, on request to access the parameters programming phase, the label “PAS” will appear. Press down simultaneously and immediately release the “UP” and “DOWN” keys; at this point, set the correct value of the password using the “UP” and “DOWN” keys. If the password is correct, pressing together and immediately releasing the “UP” and “DOWN” keys will enable the user to access the parameter programming phase. PARAMETERS PROGRAMMING The programming phase can be accessed by pressing the “UP” and "SET/DOWN" keys for more than 7 seconds. The first parameter is displayed and the “SET” LED will flash. In order to access the other parameters press the “UP” or “SET/DOWN” key. In order to view the values of the parameters shown on the label press the “UP” and "SET/DOWN" keys simultaneously. To change the value press the “UP” or “SET/DOWN” key. The storage of new values takes place automatically on exiting the programming mode, which comes about by not operating on the keys for several seconds. DESCRIPTION OF THE PARAMETERS diF: diFferential. Setpoint intervention differential. For applications in the field of refrigeration the differential must be set at positive values: the compressor will stop when the Setpoint value set is reached (on the indication of the control probe) and start again when the temperature reaches the Setpoint plus the differential value. 1/4 Table of parameters Parameter diF LSE HSE dty dit dct dEt dPo Att HAL LAL AFd PAO dAo tAo cPP Ont OFt ctP cdP odo CAL dEA FAA AOP ndt Loc PAS rEL Hdc tAb Description diFferential Lower set Higher set Agitator type agitator int. time agitator count type agitator End. time agitator power on Alarm temperature type High Alarm Low Alarm Alarm/fan diff. Drill a 29x71 mm hole and insert the instrument, securing it with the special bracket provided. The room temperature range for correct functioning is between –5 and 60 °C. Furthermore, avoid mounting the instruments in locations subject to high levels of humidity and/or dirt: said instruments are in fact suitable for use in environments with an ordinary or normal level of pollution. Make sure that the area near to the cooling slits is left aerated. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Never work on electrical connections when the machine is switched on. The instrument is equipped with a terminal board for the connection of electric cables with a maximum 2.5 mm2 section (only one conductor per terminal for power connections). Ensure that the voltage of the power supply conforms to that required by the EWPX MILK CONTROLLER Rel. 01.00 03- 2000 / Eng instrument: 12 V~/c ±15% (extremely low safety voltage). The outputs on the relays, linked by two terminals, are voltage-free. Do not exceed the maximum electrical current permitted (compressor and alarm: 8(3)A 250V~; agitator: 5(2)A 250V~). In the event of greater loads use a contact with a suitable capacity. The maximum current allowed for each terminal is 17 A; this current must not be exceeded on the terminals of the common outputs (terminals 6 and 7). The NTC-type probe does not require a connection polarity and may be extended using a normal bipolar cable (remember that extending the probe adversely affects the conduct of the instrument in terms of electromagnetic compatibility; take great care when wiring). The output for the EWRS 485 interface module of the Televis system must be connected according to the indicated polarity. The probe cables, the connection cable for the EWRS 485 interface module and the power supply cable must be kept at a distance from the cables connected to the relays. In particular, the co-ordinated European safety regulations lay down that the relay contact conductors (and, generally speaking, all parts subject to dangerous voltage) should be kept away from extremely low safety voltage 3/4 connections (probe, Televis serial, power supply) using insulation systems and distances which guarantee at least a double or reinforced insulation. Electromagnetic compatibility requirements suggest/impose greater attention with regard to such separation by means of using separate insulation runs and suitable cable fixing methods. ERROR MESSAGES In the event of a shorted, interrupted or disconnected probe, the instrument anticipates the display of an “E1” error code. The same message will appear in the event of “under range” namely the exceeding of the minimum display limit (–55 °C) or “over range”, namely the exceeding of the maximum display limit (125 °C). Before replacing the probe, always check its connections beforehand. PERMITTED USE For safety reasons the control device must be installed and used according to the instructions provided and in particular, under normal conditions, parts bearing dangerous voltage levels must not be accessible. The device must be adequately protected from water and dust as per the application and must also only be accessible via the use of tools (with the exception of the frontlet). The device is ideally suited for use on household appliances and/or similar refrigeration equipment and has been tested with regard to the aspects concerning European reference standards on safety. It is classified as follows: - according to its manufacture as an automatic electronic control device to be incorporated by independent mounting; according to its automatic operating features as a 1 B-type operated control device; - as a Class A device in relation to the category and structure of the software. USE NOT PERMITTED Any other use other than that permitted is de facto prohibited. It should be noted that the relay contacts provided are of a practical type and therefore subject to failure. Any protection devices required by product standards or dictated by common sense due to obvious safety reasons should be applied externally. LIABILITY AND RESIDUAL RISKS Eliwell shall not be liable for any damages deriving from: - installation/use other than that prescribed and, in particular, that which does not comply with safety standards anticipated by regulations and/or those given herein; - use on apparatus which does not guarantee adequate protection against electric shock, water or dust under the conditions of assembly applied; - use on apparatus which allows access to dangerous parts without the use of tools and/or without warnings; - tampering with and/or alteration of the products; - installation/use on apparatus not complying with the standards and provisions of current legislation.
