Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
It has been an amazing 10 days. The Christmas Concert and Buffet,
the Christmas Fair, Year Concerts, Christmas Lunch … the list goes
on. We are all feeling sated before the festive season is in full swing!
I do wish all children, teachers and parents a wonderful holiday. It
has been a long-time since the Autumn Term commenced on
1 September and everybody is looking forward to the break.
I hope you enjoy being with family and friends and look forward to seeing you back at
school on Thursday 7 January.

Well, we have finally made it to the end and what a fantastic term it has
been for us all here at Dabrowskiego. We have all worked very hard and
have also had lots of fun along the way. We would like to leave you with
some images of our time so far and may we wish you all a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Message from the Head of Primary School
Dear Parents,
As we come to the end of our Autumn Term, I would like to wish you a
very peaceful and happy Christmas. Having worked hard all term, the
children will be ready for a break and the opportunity to recharge their
batteries (whilst wearing yours out no doubt!). Thank you all for your
support and encouragement since September. As you can see from the
newsletter we have been very busy! I would like to thank the students
and teachers for their dedication and hard work.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the Christmas Nativities and
Concerts held across the Primary School and EYFS. The children were wonderful and really
reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas. I would like to offer a special word of thanks to
the members of the Parents’ Association who put tremendous work into organising numerous
events throughout this term. Their fundraising, work and support is invaluable to the school
community.
This December we bid ado to a wonderful teacher- Mrs Julie Kayiranga who is returning
permanently to the UK over the Christmas period. Mrs Kayiranga has been an invaluable
member of our school community for the past 18 months as she has taught across Years 4 and
5. She has been an enthusiastic member of the Community Choir while also taking a leading
role in many musical clubs and activities throughout the school. We wish her all the best as
she embarks on new adventures.
I wish you all the joy of the festive season… I hope Santa will be good to you all this year!

Message from the Head of Secondary School
Dear all,
Another term comes to a close and this one has been filled with hard
work and perseverance and ended with Christmas dinners, Christmas
clothes and lots of Christmas cheer.
Our last assemblies in Secondary were dedicated to two themes; the
first ‘Praise’ and the second ‘the spirit of Christmas’. Miss Ellis ran a
Praise Assembly on Tuesday in which we recognized all those students
who give so much outside of the academic; Tanzania, Christmas Concert, fund raising, Christmas Fair, horse-riding, sailing, karting to name
just a few. It certainly made us all realise what an extremely talented group of young people
make up our school.
The last assembly was dedicated to …. Christmas, of
course. Mr Bezodis discussed the ‘spirit’ of Christmas and
got us all thinking with this year’s John Lewis advert –
a real tear-jerker and not for the faint-hearted!
We have certainly spent this term thinking of others, both
within our own community and elsewhere. The story of Santa and the good will that it brings
is magical but also gives us the opportunity to put these thoughts into practice by showing our
appreciation and respect for family and loved ones.
We have asked much of our students this term and they have delivered.
We have asked much of our staff and they too have delivered.
We look forward to a well-earned rest now to re-charge our batteries.
Perhaps whilst doing so we can all spare a thought for Santa who ….
• ...has only 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and
the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical).
• ...has a workload (focusing just on ‘good’ children – to make things easy) of about 15% of
the total – 378 million.
• ...delivers at an average rate of 3.5 children per household, that’s 91.8 million homes
(one presumes there’s at least one good child in each, some may disagree!)
• This works out to 822.6 visits per second. So – for each household, Santa has 1/1000th
of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get
back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh and move on to the next house.
I wonder if he can deliver………

News from the Sportsdesk
Football Tournaments
Last Saturday we finished our Autumn football season.
The 2006 boys won the Delta Cup
and the U11 team won Gwardia Warszawa 15:7.
Delta Cup Tournaments are well known for the high level teams taking part.
Last time we finished third and we wanted to prove we deserve more.
First we won 3 group matches 8:0 v KS Ursynow, 3:0 v Dragon Bielany
and 2:0 v Znicz Pruszkow. In quote final we won Nadstal 5:0.
We played semifinal v Delta. The boys remember our last match v Delta
/2:1/, so we started very focused. Our opponents made only one shoot
on our goal but Maciek saved it. This match finished with a result 3:0
and we qualified to the Final. There is not much to talk about. We won
5:0 and we won the third tournament this season. Salvador won the
Top Scorer Trophy and all boys proved they knew how to play football.
From September till now, the KS2 boys played 51 matches, they won 33,
drew 8 and lost 10.
Congratulations for boys and thanks for all our supporters.

Greetings from Tanzania!
It has been a busy week for everyone here. We have been building goat sheds, installing solar
panels, building stoves and even building housing for teachers at the local primary school! We
have been on safari and seen some amazing animals.
However, most importantly, we have been changing the lives of those in need. It is an amazing
feeling to see the children and adults so happy to have electricity in their homes for the first
time because we installed a solar panel. As a group we have been learning a lot about teamwork, hard-work, and some of us have even conquered our fear of bugs!
We miss everyone and can't wait to share all of our experiences when we return.

Happy Holidays from Polish Department
As the term draws to close it is always great to look back and reflect on the many memorable
things that have happened over last weeks. This is the last Newsletter of 2015 and I would like
to take this opportunity to wish you all a pleasant and relaxing winter break and look forward to
seeing you back at school in the New Year, refreshed and ready for another exciting term ahead.
I have a pleasure to announce that our Polish Journalism Club has produced their first Newsletter
of the year with a special focus on Christmas. Students meet once a weak and have the opportunity
to do everything a real journalist would do: they interview students and stuff, write about topical
school issues and research topics of interests. Those who enjoy editing and design work can do the
layout and decide where articles should go.
Below you may find interesting Christmas articles written by talented and ambitious Primary
journalists. Our club has meetings every Tuesday at lunch time in room 149. New journalists are
more than welcome to join us!

Sześć Zmysłów Świątecznych
Boże Narodzenie to czas radości oraz miłości, jest to także okres zmuszający nas do refleksji
i głębokiego zastanowienia, aby w pełni czuć święta, potrzebujemy naszych nie pięciu, lecz
Sześciu Zmysłów Świątecznych.
Pierwszym zmysłem, jaki przychodzi do głowy, gdy myślimy o Bożym Narodzeniu, jest dotyk.
Dotyk świeżego igliwia, dotyk białego obrusu przy świątecznej kolacji oraz szeleszczącego
sianka, leżącego pod nim, dotyk odświętnych ubrań na najważniejszą kolację w roku.
Dzięki zmysłowi dotyku, czujemy jedną szóstą magii świąt. Bez możliwości dotknięcia tych
wszystkich rzeczy, Wigilia nie byłaby aż tak magiczna. Przeciwnie, stałaby się niepełna. Tak jak
każdy z sześciu zmysłów, dotyk jest częścią świąt, bez niego cały cud odpłynąłby daleko.

Następnym zmysłem, jaki przychodzi na myśl, jest słuch – brzmienie kolęd, podmuchy wiatru,
strzelające drewno w kominku, gwar, śmiech oraz radość domowników. Kiedy kolędnicy zadzwonią do naszych drzwi, z przyjemnością wsłuchujemy się w kojącą melodię, a szelest papieru ozdobnego, którym obłożono prezenty podnieca i ekscytuje. Dźwięk dzwonków w saniach
Mikołaja od zawsze przyprawiał dzieci o zawrót głowy. Piękno oraz potęga dźwięku są bezcenne
w okresie Świąt Bożego Narodzenia.
Ostatnim i zdecydowanie najważniejszym zmysłem dla wielbicieli Narodzenia Pańskiego jest
szósty zmysł – Zmysł Ducha Świątecznego. To on daje nam radość i miłość w święta i budzi
w nas śmiech, gdy na niebie zabłyśnie pierwsza gwiazdka. Ten zmysł wznieca naszą miłość i
szczęście, gdy znów możemy się spotkać z rodziną, gdy dzielimy się opłatkiem i siadamy razem
do Wieczerzy Wigilijnej. To on sprawia, że pełni nadziei myślimy o fantastycznych prezentach
leżących pod lśniącą, leśną damą zaproszoną do naszego domu na Gwiazdkę.
To właśnie ten zmysł sprawia, że Boże Narodzenie jest tak magiczne.

Świątecznie i zmysłowo
Święta pachną iglastymi damami drzew (świerkami oraz jodłami), stojącymi dostojnie
wokół Stołu Świątecznego przystrojonego w różnorodne smakołyki wydające z siebie
niepowtarzalne zapachy. W powietrzu unosi się zapach śledzia oraz karpia w słonawej
galarecie, pływającego tu i tam w niewidzialnym dla ludzkich oczu rwącym się
strumyku. Makowiec wiruje w naszych nozdrzach, wydając z siebie intensywny zapach
ciemnego maku. W tym samym czasie pięknie wypachnieni piernikowi dżentelmeni
dostojnie kroczą po ramionach iglastych dam, podśpiewując sobie kolędy wigilijne.
To co niewidzialne w Święta dla naszych oczu odczuwamy innymi zmysłami, które daje nam
właśnie magia Świąt. Magia może nawet sprawić, że zobaczymy niezwykłe marsze przedziwnego
karpia moczącego się w mroźnej galarecie, marszczącego sobie płetwy. Święta Bożego Narodzenia
są niezwykle eleganckie. Widzimy wytworne bombki połyskujące na iglastych ramionach zielonej
choinki, które przypominają nam trzepoczące złote elfy, tańczące z gracją w rytm pięknych i
radosnych kolęd. W ciągu tej niezwykłej nocy wypatrujemy pierwszej gwiazdki jak i wypolerowanych
sań Świętego Mikołaja przywożącego prezenty dla dzieci na całym świecie.

Nie da się opisać tych wszystkich niepowtarzalnych rzeczy, które widzimy, smakujemy w czasie
zaczarowanych Świąt, ale nie zapomnijmy, jak cudowne dźwięki nas otaczają…
Co słyszy się podczas uroczystej Wigilijnej Wieczerzy?
Bardzo dużo rzeczy: łamanie bielutkiego opłatka kruszącego się w delikatnej dłoni. Dźwięk
rozszarpywanego papieru w czasie rozpakowywania różnorodnych prezentów. Słychać też
dzwoniące dzwoneczki, umocowane na zakręconych rogach reniferów i inne niesamowite
dźwięki, ale przede wszystkim dźwięczne kolędy, które umilają nam przeżywanie tych pięknych
Świąt.
Klara Żołędziowska
Magia wigilijnej chwili zaklęta w makowej słodkości
Nadchodzi Wigilia Bożego Narodzenia, a z nią radość, zapach choinki i smaki naszej polskiej
tradycji. Magia tej chwili zostaje w naszych sercach. Gdy pada śnieg na dworze, a w domu choinka
przynosi zapach lasu, gdy na niebie zapłonie pierwsza gwiazdka – to znak, że czas zasiadać do
wigilijnej kolacji. Czas, abyśmy poznali potrawy, które tworzą nie tylko smaki, ale ową cudowną
świąteczną magię niezapomnianej, wigilijnej chwili…
Potrawy na wigilijny stół to część naszej polskiej tradycji. Ważne zasady na wigilijną kolację
zależą od regionu i zwyczajów w nim panujących. Jednak na każdym polskim stole powinno być
dwanaście potraw. Tradycja ta związana jest z liczbą apostołów. Pod obrusem układa się sianko.
Kiedyś z tym sianem gospodarze po kolacji wędrowali do swoich zwierząt, aby równi wobec
wszystkich istot podzielić się i złożyć również zwierzakom życzenia. Myśliwi siano z wigilijnego
stołu zanosili i dokładali symbolicznie do leśnych paśników dla saren i jeleni. Najpiękniejszą
polską tradycją jest jedno miejsce wolne przy wigilijnym stole. Miejsce nakryte i czekające dla
wędrowca, który nie ma dachu nad głową. Wigilijna kolacja łączy rodziny i przyjaciół, zaczyna
się bowiem od łamania opłatkiem i składania życzeń. Kolacji towarzyszą pieśni zwane kolędami.
Święta Bożego narodzenia w Polsce to tradycja kuchni, zwyczaje i ciepło rodzinne, które daje
siłę na cały rok.

Swoją kulinarną tradycję pragnę zacząć od ulubionej potrawy, którą przygotowuję zawsze z
Babcią. Jest to potrawa tak smaczna i cudowna, że można ją jeść bez końca. Wydaje mi się,
że to ukoronowanie polskiej tradycji, zawiera bowiem miód, mak, orzechy i inne pyszności.
Kojarzy mi się z Babcią, jej łagodnym głosem, uśmiechem, ciepłem światła z choinki, z radością
świątecznego stołu. Z magią świąt Bożego Narodzenia. To nie tylko „palce lizać”, ale to coś
więcej…
Kluski z makiem
Składniki:
* 30 dag makaronu,
* 20 dag mielonego maku,
* 10 dag orzechów,
* 10 dag rodzynek,
* skórka pomarańczowa, kandyzowana ok 2 łyżki,
* 1 olejek migdałowy,
* 2 łyżki miodu,
* skórki pomarańczy do dekoracji
Etapy przygotowania
* Makaron ugotować w lekko osolonej wodzie przez nie więcej niż 10 minut,
* Odcedzić używając durszlaku,
* Do makaronu trzeba dodać zmielony mak, bakalie, olejek i miód,
* Delikatnie wymieszać
* Polecam dodać do klusek z makie skórkę z pomarańczy, jako dekoracja.
* Kluski z makiem gotowe!
* Takie kluski z makiem rodem z kuchni staropolskiej zadowolą każdego!

Jak smakują i pachną Święta Bożego Narodzenia
Małe dzieci uwielbiają Boże Narodzenie, oczekiwanie na pierwszą gwiazdę na niebie, smakołyki
na świątecznym stole i wizytę Świętego Mikołaja ze wspaniałymi, tajemniczymi prezentami.
Zapach towarzyszący tym przeżyciom, jest na stałe bardzo głęboko zapisany w naszej pamięci.
Polski dom pachnie żywą choinką, jodłą, sosną i świerkiem, korzennymi pierniczkami,
goździkami, imbirem, cynamonem, miodem, pomarańczą, mandarynką, suszonym jabłkiem,
pieczeniami mięs i ryb oraz wspólne przygotowywanymi ciastami. Polska Wigilia to smaki i
zapachy karpia,
pieczonego łososia, faszerowanego szczupaka, ryby po grecku, śledzi, pierogów z kapustą
i grzybami, nadziewanej kaczki, indyka i gęsi, pasztetu z dziczyzny, kapusty z grzybami, zupy
rybnej i grzybowej, czerwonego barszczu z uszkami, sosu żurawinowego, sałatki jarzynowej,
kompotu z suszonych jabłek, gruszek i śliwek; kutii z makiem, miodem i bakaliami, makowca i
sernika. W każdym domu panuje inny zwyczaj i różne potrawy uważa się za najważniejsze w tym
magicznym dniu. Przyrządza się je głównie w święta, dlatego ich zapach wzbudza wiele emocji.
Zgodnie z tradycją, na wigilijnym stole powinno być dwanaście potraw.
