ARCHICAD 20
ARCHICAD 20 features a brand new,
high resolution flat-design graphical
UI that sets the new version apart
from run-of-the-mill BIM tools.
Underneath the surface, a number of
important functional improvements
put the emphasis on the “I” in BIM.
Fresh look at #BIM
ARCHICAD 20 offers a fresh and clean user interface
maximizing the available working area with crisp
and clean new icons that look sharp on any screen
resolution. The improved tab-based navigation
means easy and fast navigation among different
views of the project.
• ARCHICAD 20 delivers a unified, up-to-date
and professional user interface.
• ARCHICAD 20 has a cleaner and larger
workspace by displaying the most widely used
functions while restructuring all the rarely
used commands and options.
• By eliminating superfluous graphical elements
of the user interface - it is not only free from
inessential visual noise, but also provides a
larger screen real estate for your design and
editing work.
BIM #Visualization
ARCHICAD 20 takes project visualization to the next
level by updating the CineRender Engine, enabling
more accurate handling of “free-form” (Non‐uniform
rational basis splines).
•
•
•
ARCHICAD 20 runs the latest CineRender version,
based on the Cinema 4D R16 engine; the results
are major improvements in surface settings.
This ensures even more realistic surfaces, while
rendering improvements reduce render times
and enable highly realistic contact shadows.
In 3D perspective view, users can switch to a
two-point perspective in any camera position,
maintaining the original position and viewing
angle. As a result, all 3D vertical edges become
vertical in perspective projection.
Complex geometry models created in Rhino now
can be imported to ARCHICAD natively using their
“native” NURBS definitions.

#BIM Performance
•
ARCHICAD 20 implements a series of performance
enhancements in various fields to enable a smoother
workflow and increase general responsiveness.
• Drawing Update: the processes for updating drawings
and checking their status now rely on multiprocessing
technology, for a faster workflow.
• Library Manager: ARCHICAD 20 can handle even very
complex project library structures in a snap. In addition
Embedded Libraries are now extracted into a virtual
file system, eliminating library inconsistencies, which
may be caused by complex library structures.
•
Hotlink Management: handling of nested hotlink
structures is improved by a more stable hotlink
update process, while the libraries are also updated
- unnecessary library elements are removed from
the project all resulting in a faster Hotlink update.
Server Communication: background processing is
now used to check the drawing status of external
references, while server communication is also
carried out in a separate thread. This not only
provides faster feedback about the status of
external references, but also dramatically reduces
response times, enhancing general responsiveness.
Graphical #Favorites
Brand new graphical Favorites speed up everyday
design development work by providing visual
feedback on saved element settings with
automatically generated, colored 2D or 3D thumbnail
previews - available for every Tool.
• The new, graphic Favorites will not only help
BIM managers in setting up and enforcing office
project templates but will also speed up everyday
design development work.
• Favorites may be organized in a custom,
hierarchical folder structure - using simple drag
and drop - for faster access; multi-selection of
favorite entries is also supported.
• Favorites entries, selection sets, single or
multiple entries may be exported in various
formats (binary or XML) to help ensure modeling,
project or office standards for every member of
the team.
The ‘I’ in #BIM
Information is the most valuable part of BIM and ARCHICAD
20 helps designers to bring out the most of it!
• Access the Information: ARCHICAD 20 enables
designers to easily access even those types of design
information that were not created using CAD or BIM
tools, like Excel spreadsheets.
• Display the Information: ARCHICAD 20 leverages
well-structured information resulting in informative
design visualization providing enormous efficiencies
throughout construction.
• Share the Information: Implementing and supporting
OPEN BIM workflows such as the IFC 4 standard, the
BIM Collaboration Format and COBie means that
designers can exchange data with engineers and
consultants without the risk of information loss.
