What is the Annual Catholic Appeal?
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of
Chicago as is the case in most (arch)
dioceses in the U.S., conducts an annual campaign to help fund the work of
its departments, agencies and offices.
Without such campaigns, the training,
ministry, education and administrative
services provided by the Archdiocese would have to be funded almost totally through taxation of parish income. While direct contributions made to annual appeals do not come out of parish income, a
higher tax would. This would cripple parishes economically. The people of every parish and mission in the Archdiocese are asked, once a
year, to make a significant financial commitment to this important
cause.
An important reason to support this campaign is born of the fact that
we are not a congregational church. All parishioners should hear and
understand this fact. Every time we say the Creed we reaffirm the
fact that we are members of the “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic
Church.” We are saying that every parish and every parishioner is
responsible not only for his or her parish but also for the well being of
the Church throughout the Archdiocese and throughout the world.
Since we are one community of believers, members of all parish
communities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago are asked to
give to this campaign.
The Annual Catholic Appeal brochure will be inserted in next week’s
bulletin, please take it home to learn more about this campaign.
When our parish reaches its goal of $19,141, 100% of the additional
money received is returned to us for use in our parish. We are counting on our parishioners to make a generous donation to the Annual
Catholic Appeal when you will be asked to make an in-pew pledge
on the weekend of February 10/11.
Mr. Slovey and the 6th grade class at St.
Mary’s are very grateful to all parishioners and
friends for their support of the Pancake Breakfast last weekend. We congratulate all of the
parents and everyone that helped to make the breakfast a
success! The proceeds of the breakfast amounted to $542.85!

Religious Education
The next Religion Education (CCD) session will be held on
Saturday, February 3, 2007 from 8am to 10am.
CONFIRMATION PARENT MEETING
There will be a meeting for all parents of students from the
school as well as from the CCD program that are preparing
to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This meeting will
take place on Monday, January 29, 2007 in Makuch Hall at
6:30PM. All of the necessary information in regard to Confirmation Day will be available; therefore, it is important that
at least one parent attend this meeting.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PARENT MEETINGS
Mandatory meetings for all parents of students who will
receive their First Holy Communion on May 5, 2007 will be
held on Monday, February 5, 2007 ( in English) and
Wednesday, February 7, 2007 (in Spanish) . Both meetings will begin at 6:30pm in Makuch Hall.
Members of the “Sister Bernie’s Bingo Bash” committee
will have a meeting at the rectory on Wednesday, January
31 at 7PM to finalize plans for this event.

“I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE,” these
words of Jesus, Himself, will be the theme of our Parish English Lenten Mission. Our Mission speakers will
be Fr. John Kuehner, CSsR and Fr. Matthew Bonk,
CSsR. The Mission will be held in our church beginning on Monday, March 5th through Thursday, March
8th. Please mark these dates on your calendars; evening services will begin at 7pm. Everyone is invited to
participate in our Parish Mission.

Have you ever received a blessing? Maybe you
get a blessing when you family receives Communion
at Sunday Mass. Sometimes fathers bless their
families every night before bed. There's special
blessings for many different things. You can get your
car blessed, or your home blessed. Every time, we
are asking God to watch over us, protect us and give us graces and
strengths to follow Him. A special blessing takes place on the feast day
of Saint Blaise. On this day, people can have their throats blessed.
Saint Blaise was a bishop in Armenia in the early fourth century. Not
much is known about him, but there are many legends and stories that
tell us what the times were like. It was a time of persecution for the
Catholic Church. The Roman empire was trying to get rid of the Christians. Many faithful were martyred because they would not give up their
love and faith in Jesus Christ.
Saint Blaise received a message from God to go into the hills to escape the persecution. The Roman governor sent men to find him. While
searching for Saint Blaise, the hunters discovered a cave that was full of
sick wild animals. There was Saint Blaise in the middle, healing the
animals! They captured him and took him back to the governor. On the
way, Saint Blaise rescued a poor woman's pig from a wolf. Other stories
say that he cured a boy who had a fish bone stuck in this throat and was
choking to death. It is because of this miraculous healing that he is considered to be the patron of throat ailments. After suffering various forms
of torture, Saint Blaise was beheaded. Seven women were martyred at
the same time.
Blessing of throats will take place after the 8am and 5pm Masses on
Saturday, February 3rd as well as after all Sunday Masses on February
4th.
February 2 - Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord Candlemas Day:
On the second of February the Church celebrates
the festival of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin,
which may be considered as the conclusion of the
series of feasts that center around the stable of
Bethlehem. Christmas Day presents to us the birth
of the Redeemer; the Epiphany commemorates His manifestation to
the Gentiles; and the Purification reminds us of the offering of our
Savior in the Temple by His Blessed Mother, as the Victim who
should reconcile God and man. This day has been chosen by the
Church for a very important ceremony, the solemn blessing of candles, whence the day is often called Candlemas -- the Mass of the
candles.
Why is this ceremony performed on the feast of the Purification?
Probably because on or about that day the Roman people, when
pagan, had been accustomed to carry lights in processions in honor
of one of their deities; and the Church, instead of trying to blot out
entirely the memory of this pagan festival, changed it into a Christian solemnity -- thereby honoring the Blessed Mother of God by
assigning to one of her feast days the solemn blessing of candles
for Christian services.

hijo de José? Y Jesús les dijo: Sin duda me recitareis aquel
refrán: “Médico, cúrate ti mismo”: haz también aquí en tu
tierra lo que has hecho en Cafarnaún. Y añadió: Os aseguro
que ningún profeta es bien mirado en su tierra. Os garantizo
que en Israel había muchas viudas en tiempo de Elías,
cuando estuvo cerrado el cielo tres años y seis meses y
hubo una gran hambre en todo el país; sin embargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías más que a una viuda de Sarepta, en el territorio de Sidón. Y muchos leprosos había en
Israel en tiempos del Profeta Elíseo, sin embargo, ninguno
de ellos fue curado más que Naamán, el sirio. Al oír esto,
todos en la sinagoga se pusieron furiosos y, levantándose,
lo empujaron fuera del pueblo hasta un barranco del monte
donde se alzaba su pueblo, con intención de despeñarlo.
Pero Jesús se abrió paso entre ellos y se alejaba.

La Fiesta de Presentación del Señor
El día Viernes 2 de Febrero de 2007 vamos a celebrar
la Misa en Español a horas 6:30 PM. Invitamos cordialmente y no se olviden traer las velas.
La Presentación del Señor es la fiesta de Cristo, luz de los
pueblos y del encuentro del Mesías con su pueblo en el
Templo de Jerusalén. El gesto de obediencia a la ley de
ofrenda, realizado por María y José que llevan al niño Jesús para presentarlo en el Templo debe inspirarnos a vivir
plenamente la unión con Dios bajo el ejemplo de la Sagrada Familia comprometida y consagrada a vivir la misión
específica dentro de los designios que Dios les propone.
En este día al igual que el viejo Simeón y la profetiza Ana,
contemplamos al Niño Divino, el Verbo Encarnado que es
presentado en el templo de Jerusalén que representa el
templo de nuestro corazón.
Historia de la Fiesta
A mediados del siglo V esta fiesta se conocía como "La
Candelaria" o "Fiesta de las Luces". La Virgen Maria ha
dado luz a la Luz del Mundo, Jesucristo y en esta fiesta El
se manifiesta a Simeón y Ana. Hasta el siglo VI se celebraba a los cuarenta días de la Epifanía, el 15 de febrero. Ahora se celebra el 2 de febrero, por ser a los cuarenta días de
la Navidad. De origen oriental, esta fiesta no se introdujo en
la liturgia del Occidente hasta el siglo VII. Al final de este
siglo ya estaba extendida en toda Roma y en casi todo Occidente. En un principio, al igual que en Oriente, se celebraba la Presentación de Jesús más que la Purificación de
María.El Concilio Vaticano II restaura esta fiesta a su origen primariamente Cristológico, celebrándose como la Presentación de Jesús en el Templo.

La misión redentorista es una
obra de la Iglesia que desea
hacer llegar el mensaje siempre nuevo y liberador de la
salvación que Jesús ofrece a
todo ser humano. El medio privilegiado es la palabra
acompañada de la vida y del testimonio del misionero que se entrega totalmente a la realización de esta
tarea.
La misión dura cinco días, inicia el domingo 10 de
Febrero de 2007 por la noche y termina el jueves 15
de Febrero de 2007 por la noche.
Los misioneros redentoristas predicarán en las Misas
del fin de semana cuando empieza la misión 10 de
Febrero de 2007. Esta homilía servirá como última
invitación para que la gente
asista a la misión.

Wiele wdów było w Izraelu za czasów Eliasza, kiedy niebo pozostawało zamknięte przez trzy lata i
sześć miesięcy, tak że wielki głód panował w całym
kraju; a Eliasz do żadnej z nich nie został posłany,
tylko do owej wdowy w Sarepcie Sydońskiej. I wielu trędowatych było w Izraelu za proroka Elizeusza,
a żaden z nich nie został oczyszczony, tylko Syryjczyk Naaman. Na te słowa wszyscy w synagodze
unieśli się gniewem. Porwali Go z miejsca, wyrzucili Go z miasta i wyprowadzili aż na stok góry, na
której ich miasto było zbudowane, aby Go strącić.
On jednak przeszedłszy pośród nich oddalił się.

OFIAROWANIE PAŃSKIE
Nazwa dzisiejszego święta wywodzi się od dwóch terminów greckich: Hypa-pante oraz Heorte ton Kataroin, co
oznacza święto spotkania i oczyszczenia. Oba te święta
były głęboko zakorzenione w tradycji Starego Testamentu. Na pamiątkę ocalenia pierworodnych synów
Izraela podczas niewoli egipskiej, każdy pierworodny
syn u Żydów był uważany za własność Boga. Dlatego
dnia 40 po jego urodzeniu należało syna zanieść do
świątyni w Jerozolimie, złożyć go w ręce kapłana, a następnie wykupić za symboliczną opłatą 5 sykłow. Równało się to zarobkowi 5 dni pracy. Równocześnie z obrzędem ofiarowania i wykupu pierworodnego syna łączyła się ceremonia oczyszczenia matki dziecka. Z tej
okazji matka była zobowiązana złożyć ofiarę z baranka,
a jeśli jej na to nie pozwalało zbyt wielkie ubóstwo, to
przynajmniej ofiarę z dwóch synogarlic lub gołębi. Fakt,
że Maryja i Józef złożyli synogarlicę, świadczy, że byli
bardzo ubodzy.
Uroczystość Ofiarowania Pańskiego przypada czterdziestego dnia po Bożym Narodzeniu. Jest to pamiątka ofiarowania Pana Jezusa w świątyni jerozolimskiej i dokonania przez Matkę Bożą obrzędu oczyszczenia. Święto
Ofiarowania jest związane z tajemnicą Narodzenia Pańskiego i dlatego jeszcze dziś wolno śpiewać kolędy.
Od 1997 r. 2 lutego Kościół powszechny obchodzi ustanowiony przez Jana Pawła II Dzień Życia Konsekrowanego, poświęcony modlitwie za osoby, które oddały
swoje życie na służbę Bogu i ludziom w niezliczonych
zakonach, zgromadzeniach i instytutach świeckich. Pamiętajmy o nich w podczas naszej dzisiejszej modlitwy
na Eucharystii.
Donacje
Chcielibyśmy poinformować że
jeśli ktoś jest w wieku siedemdziesięciu i pół roku lub starszy i
otrzymuje opodatkowane IRA
tzw. „Taxable IRA distribution”
może w pełni odpisać od podatków charytatywną donację do
$100,000. Jest to możliwe o ile ta suma jest dodana do
dochodu całkowitego na formie podatkowej. Donacja ta
może być wielokrotna o ile nie przekracza limitu
$100,000.
Chcielibyśmy przez to zaprosić aby państwo wzięli to
pod uwagę przy składaniu donacji dla naszej parafii
Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej w Cicero.
Jest to możliwe do uczynienia jedynie przed 31 grudnia

Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią niedzielę miesiąca w naszej
parafii po Mszy św. o godz. 10.30
odbywa się kurs przygotowujący
rodziców i chrzestnych do chrztu
dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się
na ten kurs prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej
półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby uczestniczyć
w kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
dziecka.
Sakrament Bierzmowania dla Dorosłych
Przygotowanie dla dorosłych do Sakramentu Bierzmowania w języku polskim odbywa się w parafii św. Ferdynanda, 5900 W. Barry Ave., Chicago, IL 60634 w soboty o
godz. 6:30 wieczorem. Osoby zainteresowane prosimy o
kontakt z ks. Mariuszem Stefanowskim dzwoniąc pod numer (773) 622-5900 lub siostrą Elżbietą (773) 889-7979.

Tak jak w każdą niedzielę tak również i dzisiaj wychodząc z kościoła można nabyć nowy numer Tygodnika
Katolickiego „Niedziela”. Znajdziemy tam bardzo ciekawe artykuły na temat życia kościoła w Polsce także
naszej Archidiecezji. Czytając ten tygodnik a także inne
publikacje np. „Różaniec”, „Anioł stróż”, „Rodzina Radia
Maryja” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do Boga i Kościoła.
Jest także do wzięcia za darmo gazeta „Katolik” wydawana przez
naszą Archidiecezję Chicago
