SCULPTURE PARK - ART IS EVERLASTING
Vita brevis, ars longa – life is short, art is long. Everlasting! Art is what adds aristocracy and charisma
to our life. Non omnis moriar - I shall not wholly die - comes true by means of art and faith. One comes
from the other. As it was with Van Gogh – art is an expression of faith. Blessed is one who spreads art,
for it makes us immortal.
As galleries and museums are sanctuaries of art, so is a sculpture park. The idea that was born in
discussion with Anna and Arkadiusz Majsterek was put into action. European Sculpture Park is located
on the grounds of A&A Golf Course in Pabianice near £ódŸ. Every year sculptors from different lands
and continents will come to symposia to produce artwork of metal, concrete, stone, steel, aluminium,
ceramics, wood.... To the first symposium opening the Park in 2011 sculptors from Moldova, Sweden,
Mexico, Italy and Poland were invited.
Sculpture park is a unique undertaking. There are not many such parks in Europe. The most famous is
Europos Parkas founded in 1991 close to Vilnius in Lithuania. It was founded by Lithuanian sculptor
Gintaras Karosas and the goal was “to give an artistic significance to the geographic centre of the
European continent”. Currently it is an outdoor exhibition covering area of 55 hectares with sculptures
of over 90 artists, including Magdalena Abakanowicz, Sol LeWitt and Dennis Oppenheim (intriguing
“Chair/Pool”). Two sculptures of the founder of the park, Gintaras Karosas, are noteworthy: “Monument of the Centre of Europe” in the form of a pyramid, and “LNK Infotree”, recorded is the Guinness
World Records as the world’s largest artwork made of TV sets.
Another popular sculpture park in Europe is Vigeland’s Park (Vigelandsparken), also known as Frognerparken. It is one of the most popular places to meet for people living in Oslo. One of the most famous
sculptures in the park is the Monolith – over 14 metres tall column carved in one single stone. It
consists of 121 human figures. There have been many interpretations of the Monolith: Man's resurrection, the struggle for existence, Man's yearning for spiritual spheres, the transcendence of everyday life
and cyclic repetition. Gustav Vigeland modelled all his sculptures in full size without any assistance of
pupils or other artists. The carving in stone and the casting in bronze were left to a number of talented
craftsmen. Vigeland also designed the architectural setting and the layout of the grounds with their far
stretching lawns and long straight avenues bordered with maple trees. The construction of the park
took a number of years.
Those who visit the park may see the original full-size plaster casts to the sculptures in bronze and
granite exhibited in the Vigeland Museum, situated five minutes from the park.
European Sculpture Park in Pabianice will become a special place. As it is located on a golf course, it will
add charm to golf, the most noble of all sports. It will also make Pabianice more attractive. As Hegel
said, one of the characteristics of art is that it can beautify any possible content by engaging our
reflections and emotions. Vita brevis, ars longa.

"Vita brevis, ars longa" - ¿ycie krótkie, sztuka d³uga. Wieczna! To ona dodaje naszemu ¿yciu artystokratycznoœci, charyzmy. Non omnis moraiar - nie wszystek umrê dokonuje siê poprzez sztukê
i wiarê. Jedno wyp³ywa z drugiego. Nawi¹zuj¹c do Van Gogha – sztuka jest wyznaniem wiary. B³ogos³awiony, kto j¹ szerzy, bowiem ona czyni nas nieœmiertelnymi.
Sanktuariami sztuki s¹ galerie, muzea. jest nim równie¿ park rze¿by. Pomys³ zrodzony w czasie
rozmowy z Ann¹ i Arkadiuszem Majsterek przerodzi³ siê w czyn. W pobli¿u pola golfowego A&A
w pod³ódzkich Pabianicach powstaje Europejski Park RzeŸby. Co roku na plenery, których owocem
bêd¹ dzie³a w metalu, betonie, kamieniu, stali, aluminium, ceramice, drewnie..., zje¿d¿aæ siê bêd¹
artyœci z ró¿nych krajów i kontynentów. Pierwszy plener – otwieraj¹cy Park w 2011 roku – goœci³
rzeŸbiarzy z Mo³dawii, Szwecji, Meksyku, Rosji i Polski.
Park RzeŸby to przedsiêwziêcie wyj¹tkowe. Nie ma ich wiele w Europie. Najs³ynniejszym jest Europos
Parkas za³o¿ony w 1991 r. pod Wilnem, pomiêdzy Werkami a Niemenczynem. Za³o¿y³ go litewski
rzeŸbiarz Gintaras Karosas, a celem parku mia³o byæ "uzmys³owienie - poprzez jêzyk sztuki - szczególnego znaczenia geograficznego centrum kontynentu europejskiego". Obecnie jest to przestrzeñ wystawiennicza na wolnym powietrzu – na 55 ha ustawiono dzie³a ponad 90 rzeŸbiarzy, m.in. Magdaleny
Abakanowicz, Sol LeWitta czy Dennisa Oppenheima (intryguj¹ce "Krzes³o/basen"). Warte odnotowania
s¹ dwie rzeŸby za³o¿yciela parku, Gintarasa Karosasa - Monument Centrum Europy w formie przypominaj¹cej piramidê oraz LNK Info drzewo, odnotowan¹ w ksiêdze rekordów Guinnessa jako najwiêksze
dzie³o sztuki zbudowane ze starych telewizorów.
Innym popularnym w Europie jest Park Vigelanda (Vigelandsparken), znany tak¿e jako Frognerparken
w Finlandii. Jest jednym z najbardziej popularnych miejsc spacerów mieszkañców Oslo. Znajduje siê
tam m.in. Monolit – ponad czternastometrowa kolumna wyrzeŸbiona z jednej bry³y kamienia. Mieœci
siê na niej 121 postaci ludzkich. Monolit interpretowano na wiele sposobów, miêdzy innymi jako
zmartwychwstanie cz³owieka, walkê o przetrwanie, ludzk¹ têsknotê za duchowoœci¹, codzienn¹
transcendencjê i cykliczn¹ powtarzalnoœæ. Gustav Vigeland tworzy³ makiety swoich rzeŸb w naturalnych rozmiarach ca³kowicie samodzielnie, bez jakiejkolwiek pomocy ze strony uczniów czy innych
artystów. RzeŸbienie w kamieniu b¹dŸ wykonywanie odlewu w br¹zie pozostawia³ gronu uzdolnionych rzemieœlników. Vigeland zaprojektowa³ tak¿e za³o¿enia architektoniczne i uk³ad ca³ego terenu
z rozleg³ymi trawnikami i d³ugimi prostymi alejami obsadzonymi klonami. Urz¹dzanie parku trwa³o
kilka lat. Odwiedzaj¹cy Park Vigelanda mog¹ cieszyæ siê widokiem oryginalnych pe³nowymiarowych
gipsowych odlewów póŸniejszych rzeŸb w br¹zie i granicie, eksponowanych w Muzeum Vigelanda,
usytuowanym o piêæ minut drogi od Parku.
Europejski Park RzeŸby A&A w Pabianicach stanie siê miejscem szczególnym. Doda uroku najszlachetniejszemu ze sportów – golfowi, powstaje bowiem – jak wspomnia³em – w s¹siedztwie pola golfowego.

HUGO ARQUIMEDES
Hugo Arquimedes – sculpture recaptures and inherits the plastic currents
of geometrism and constructivism of Modern Latin-American Art. His plastic work emerges from a relentless geometry that serves as a medium
and not as a purpose. Hugo Arquimedes has twelve solo exhibitions and
participated in over twenty group exhibitions in different museums and
galleries in Mexico, among them: Museum of Modern Art of the State of
Mexico, José Luis Cuevas Museum, National Lottery Gallery, Vera Cruzan
Art Gallery, Jesus Reyes Heroles Culture House, Diego Rivera Anahuacalli
Museum, Museum of Art and History of the Fine Arts National Institute
(INBA) and Museum of Archaeology of the Chamizal. Arquimedes is author of the monumental steel sculpture Rayenare (10.5 m. high, Juarez
City, Chihuahua, Mexico, 2001) and was a winner of the National Price of
Young Sculpture L'Oreal 1998. He also participated in a major binational
urban exhibition, organized by the MACAY* Foundation, "Sculptural Brotherhoods Mexico-Germany", in Merida City with his sculpture Nature Allegory, 2008. He recently made an urbanistic art intervention including
various techniques such as painting, sculpture and venetian mosaic design in an under bridge that leads directly to the "heart of Mexico City". This urbanistic art work is called Ayotl, the Aztec
noun for "turtle", and its size is 200 m. long. At present he runs with his wife and partner, Norma Morales, “Arquimedes
Art” dedicated to design and development of urban art projects.

mieœcie Merida City. Jest te¿ autorem 200-metrowej instalacji artystycznej „Ayotl” w tunelu
w mieœcie Meksyk, obejmuj¹cej formy malarskie,
rzeŸbiarskie i mozaiki weneckie. Nazwa „Ayotl”
w jêzyku Azteków znaczy „¯ó³w”. Obecnie wraz
z ¿on¹ i wspó³pracowniczk¹ Norm¹ Morales prowadzi przedsiêwziêcie „Arquimedes Art”, poœwiêcone projektowaniu oraz realizacji miejskich
projektów artystycznych.

He was born in 1956 in Poland. He is a cosmopolitan artist using his nickname. His golf installations, featured in “Golf in
Art” album, were exhibited in 2010 in Sankt Petersburg, Russia. The artwork created for the European Sculpture Park in
Pabianice includes the longest golf clubs in the world. They may be acknowledged by the Guinness World Records. His
work is titled "The Unfinished Game".
Urodzi³ siê w Polsce, w 1956 r. Artysta kosmopolityczny, u¿ywaj¹cy wy³¹cznie pseudonimu. Swoje golfowe instalacje –
opublikowane w albumie „Golf w sztuce – pokazywa³ w ubieg³ym roku w Sankt Petersburgu. Prezentowana tu praca zawiera
najd³u¿sze na œwiecie kije golfowe. Byæ mo¿e znajd¹ siê w ksiêdze Guinnesa. Tytu³ jego instalacji: „Niedokoñczona gra”.
IWONA KUL¥GOWSKA
She was born in Warsaw and always wanted to become an artist. She fulfilled her
dreams and graduated from the European Academy of Arts, getting a diploma in drawing and painting in Professor Wies³aw Garboliñski studio. Her artworks include drawings, oil and pastel paintings, as well as sculptures and ceramics. She is a member of
Polish Pastel Painters Association in Nowy S¹cz. She also runs her own art gallery “8+”
in Warsaw. During last three years she participated in several symposia, including
Polish Sculpture Centre in Oroñsk, International Pastel Painters Symposium in Nieszawa, the 3rd International Art Symposium in Budy Lucieñskie and a symposium in India.
She qualified to the 4th International Pastel Painting Biennale in Nowy S¹cz in 2008
(Ma³opolskie BWA in Nowy S¹cz). She also exhibited her works at the 8th Art Exhibition
“Sacrum in Art” (Wadowickie Centrum Kultury), the 1st National Contest “Painted with
Music” (Cracow, 2008 – I. Paderewski Culture Foundation in Cracow, Art Palace, Cracow), the 24th National Exhibition of the Works of Art Teachers (Rzeszów 2008, Wojewódzki Dom Kultury w Rzeszowie), the exhibition Young Artists Drawings 2 (Mazowieckie Centrum Sztuki Wspó³czesnej "Elektrownia", Radom 2008) and in the Polish Artists
Association gallery in £ódŸ. Her artwork “Last Evening Meal”, oil paining on hardboard,
is exhibited in the Museum of Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

GEORGIJ LABUNIN
He was born in Odessa, now Ukraine. He graduated from Architecture
Department in Baku, and then defended a diploma with maximum score
at the Anthropology and Religious Art Department of the Academy of
Fine Arts in Milan, Italy, where he currently lives and works. He has
worked as an illustrator and caricature artist for many renown magazines: Krasnaja Zvezda, Krokodil, Vecherniaja Moskva, Sovietskaja Kultura, Sovietskij Sport, Pravda, Slovo, Moscow Times, Die Burger (Cape
Town), Solider (Brussels), London Info and Herald of Europe (London).
He has made portraits of Mikhail Gorbachev, Claudia Cardinale, Swarovski family and Garry Kasparov, among others. His works have been
exhibited in South Africa, Portugal, Norway and Russia in over 20 solo
exhibitions.

He was born in 1930 in £ódŸ. He graduated in 1953 from the State High School of

ALFONSO NARVAEZ
He was born 1940. He has been involved with Sculpture since 1962, first as
assistant of the sculptor, Joaquin Arias, and later as understudy and assistant of the Master Sculptor, Julián Martínez. His first public work was executed in 1967 with the statue of Francisco García Salinas, for which he mounted
his first workshop which included a modeling facility and foundry. From that
moment on, he practiced and mastered the different processes of Artistic
Casting (modeling, preparation of moulds, foundry, soldering, sculpting, and
paten) in a directly personal fashion.
He has performed industrial design and specialized foundry as well as the
manufacture of tools and implements for his own workshop.
He is professor of sculpture in the Institute of Fine Arts of San Luis Potosí and
in the State School of Sculpture. He has given talks and conferences concerning Sculpture and Fine Arts in general. His works include more than fifty
pieces (statues, reliefs, busts, etc.) for various States of the Mexican Republic. He has a Bachelor of Art Degree in Science and Humanities.
In 1976, he was promoted by the National Institute of Mexican Youth (INJM)
to receive the title of “Professional Forger of Mexico Today” (in Sculpture).
In 1962 he was given First Place in Sculpture (with his first work) in a contest
which took place in the City of Pabellón, Aguascalientes, Mexico. He has been twice the winner of Second Place in the
“State Contest of Plastic Arts 20th of November”. He was member of the Panel of Judges for the same State Contest in 1995.
Urodzi³ siê w roku 1940. RzeŸb¹ zajmuje siê od roku 1962, najpierw by³ pomocnikiem rzeŸbiarza Joaquina Ariasa,
a póŸniej uczniem i wspó³pracownikiem Juliána Martíneza. Swoje pierwsze publiczne dzie³o, pomnik Francisco Garcíi Salinasa, wykona³ w roku 1967. Na potrzeby tego dzie³a stworzy³ warsztat z pracowni¹ do produkcji modeli oraz odlewni¹.
Od tej pory poœwiêci³ siê doskonaleniu
ró¿ne dziedzin odlewnictwa artystycznego
(tworzenie modeli, przygotowywanie form,
odlewanie, lutowanie i rzeŸbienie). Zajmowa³ siê tak¿e wzornictwem przemys³owym
oraz specjalistycznym odlewnictwem, jak
równie¿ wyrobem sprzêtu i narzêdzi na potrzeby w³asnego warsztatu. Jest profesorem rzeŸby w Instytucie Sztuk Piêknych
stanu San Luis Potosí oraz w Pañstwowej
Szkole RzeŸby.
W ró¿nych stanach Meksyku zrealizowa³
ponad 50 prac (pomniki, p³askorzeŸby, popiersia). Uzyska³ dyplomy na studiach w zakresie nauk œcis³ych oraz humanistycznych.
W roku 1976 na wniosek Narodowego Instytutu M³odzie¿y Meksyku otrzyma³ honorowy tytu³ „Zawodowy kowal wspó³czesnego Meksyku” (w dziedzinie rzeŸby).
W roku 1962 wygra³ I nagrodê w dziedzinie rzeŸby w konkursie zorganizowanym
w mieœcie Pabellón w Meksyku. Dwukrotnie
otrzyma³ II nagrodê w Konkursie Sztuk Plastycznych im. 20 Listopada, a w roku 1995
by³ cz³onkiem jury tego konkursu.

ELIZABETH OLSZEWSKA
Artist, ceramic sculpture, born in Szczecin, Poland, resident and active
in Stockholm since 1984. She is working with clay giving it sculptural
forms, in which the linkage between handcraft, ideas and emotions
can be seen and where the glaze plays a very important role.
The artist is experimenting, searching for new ways of expression, both
through color as structure. Therefore her sculptural stylization is surrounded by mysticism and tension. Her consequent language is secure
but also sensual. At the same time it is realistic and imperturbable
through the use of earth colors.
Artysta plastyk, urodzona w Szczecinie, od 1984 roku przebywa w
Szwecji. Tworzy g³ównie rzeŸbiarskie formy z gliny. Szczególnie du¿¹
rolê odgrywa w jej pracach szkliwo, które - jak mówi - ma bardzo du¿¹
rolê w oddawaniu emocji i zamys³ów artystycznych. Jest to artystka
eksperymentuj¹ca, poszukuj¹ca nowej, w³asnej drogi wyra¿ania
ekspresji, poprzez kolor, kszta³t i strukturê kszta³towanego materia³u. Jej rzeŸbiarskie stylizacje przepe³nione s¹ mistycyzmem
i zmys³owoœci¹. Wa¿n¹ rolê odgrywa tu u¿ywanie przez artystkê naturalnych barwników. El¿bieta Olszewska ma na
swoim koncie kilkadziesi¹t wystaw w Szwecji, Finlandii, Syrii, Polsce. Jej prace znajduj¹ siê m.in. w zbiorach Muzeum
naorodowego w Szczecinie.

ION ZDERCIUC
Born 1957, Republic of Moldova. STUDIES: 1969-1972 School of Arts for children,
Ungheni town; 1972-1976 Republican College of Arts “A. Plamadeala”, Chisinau; 1981-1987 Academy of Arts, class of the professor Veniamin Pinciuk, Saint
Petersburg, Russia. He was in Poland the first time. He made the sculpture from
O¿arów Group cement.
Urodzi³ siê w 1957 r. w Republice Mo³dawii. W latach 1969-1972 uczêszcza³ do
szko³y artystycznej dla dzieci w mieœcie Ungheni. W latach 1972-1976 studiowa³
w Republican College of Arts “A. Plamadeala” w Kiszyniowie, a w 1981-1987
w Akademii Sztuk Piêknych w Sankt Petersburgu, w klasie profesora Veniamina
Pinciuka. W Polsce goœci³ po raz pierwszy. RzeŸbê wykona³ z cementu Cementowni O¿arów.
