The construction of the stadium located in the district of Letnica in
Gdańsk started on 15 December 2008.
Biuro Inwestycji Euro Gdańsk 2012 [Euro Gdańsk 2012 Investment
Office], established by the Mayor of Gdańsk, is responsible for it. The
facility was designed by a German designer office, RhodeKellermann-Wawrowsky.
The Stadium in Gdańsk was the second Polish UEFA Euro 2012 arena to be put into
operation after the stadium in Poznań.
The ceremonial opening took place on 18 July 2011. The stands of the stadium can
accommodate 42,000 fans.
In July 2010 a tender was successfully carried out to select the stadium’s operatorleaseholder that will be responsible for sports, commercial and technical management of the
facility for the next 10 years. The company Lechia Operator has become the stadium’s
operator.
The stadium’s surrounding infrastructure includes a roller-skate track around the external ring
of the promenade, connected with bike routes running, among other things, along the seaside
line and connected with Sopot.
Three group-stage matches and one quarter-final will be played at the stadium during the
UEFA EURO 2012.
