Those were the same words that we spoke shortly before she went home to be with Jesus and Mary and all the saints and loved ones who would welcome her with opened arms after a won derful life. As I watched her in the strange chaos of the ICU last Saturday, I looked at a vessel of God who had reached the point of her retirement from this life. I looked at the eyes that watched over me, protected me, cried for and with me, laughed with me. They followed me and knew me more than any friend possibly could. As Shakespeare wrote in his 23rd sonnet : (I prefer the Polish translation here) ‘s³uchaj oczyma...to mi³oœci prawo.’ I saw the hands that worked as a cleaning lady at Ohio Bell so that I could get a great education. The same hands cooked favorite foods and baked fabulous treats for me and for our four legged companion, Hercules, up to the end of her life. Those same hands caressed me when I was lost, lonely and depressed, helping me to choose life over destruction. They also accepted the Blessed Sacrament from me when she could no longer attend Mass at her parish church. They embraced the Body of Christ until they were unable to this past weekend when the option for the food for her journey home was reduced to but a morsel placed into her opened mouth. I saw the feet that would have paced about the house, carrying me, looking for me, walking to the store, the car, the many meetings, the bingo hall and to our very own Shrine Church where she took extreme pride in my involvement. Finally I saw the heart which had now become fragile after years of maintaining her life with the blood which at one time sustained me. That heart had experienced 86 years of joy, pain, suffering, yearning, love and life. That heart was soon to feel the pressure of all those years of ups and downs. It finally burst open on the morning of Pentecost while my mother slept in wait of God’s loving embrace. I thank all of you who shared your condolences with me. I thank all of you who were her friends...our friends. I thank all of you who helped and continue to help me make my mother so proud that I am a part of the Shrine Church of St. Stanislaus. I have been blessed. Mama, zostañcie z Bogiem! Blessed be God forever! It seems to me that not many Catholics care if God is 5-personed, 2personed or 3 personed. “God is God,” they say. “That’s all that matters. I believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I don’t know how to explain it. That’s up to the theologians to do. I just believe.” To a degree there is much truth in that statement. However, each year in the Roman Catholic Church — which is this weekend—we celebrate liturgically God as the most holy Trinity. We can’t know ALL there is to know about the mystery of God as ONE being and at the same time THREE persons. Not even theologians can FULLY explain that. But God has revealed Himself as a trinity of persons with the expectation that as believers we PARTICIPATE in God’s Trinitarian life. We have been created into the image and likeness of a God who is 3-personed. Somehow the life of the God as Trinity needs to show in our life. This means that we need not only to believe that God is Father — one who is a creator, the source of our being — but God’s fatherhood needs to reveal itself in our life. Together with God the Father we need to be the source and provider of life for others with whom we are in contact. We need to be conscious that God the Father is continually creating life in us, and we need to be instruments of that life to others. God does not expect us to be instruments of life of and by ourselves. We did not receive or give life to ourselves. Our parents were those instruments. In like manner we are expected to receive spiritual life, which is intimately connected with the bodily life, through, in and with Jesus, the Son of God and the Son of man. As a human being He is the way to life. This means that Jesus shows us in word and deed in what real life consists, and what God the father wants our life to be. From this point of view Jesus is indispensable in our lives. The Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the most holy Trinity, is the personalized love between God the Father and Jesus the Son. True Trinitarian love is not an “it” but a person. The Holy Spirit, as a person, is a gift of the Father and the Son , which means that each baptized person can have and can foster personalized love. To love naturally is not enough. That love is liable to be self-centered, fickle, selective and temporary. God wants us to love with His eternal and enduring love, which embraces all — friend and enemy. True Trinitarian love is a participation in the very life of the Trinitarian God, whereby God the Father loves the Son and the Son loves the Father. The baptized enters into “the infinite sea” — as it were — of that undeserved and bountiful love which one is expected to share with others.. Lest this reflection about the most Holy Trinity seem “heady” and not very practical, pray to the Trinity of persons to enlighten your understanding and to enter more fully into the mystery of God’s nature, so that every time you make the sign of the cross — which is the best symbol of the most Holy Trinity — you may give the 3-personed God all honor and glory. Peace and Good! Fr Cam Swieto Trójcy Przenajswietszej Wsród wielu dziel napisanych przez sw. Tomasza z Akwinu, do najwazniejszych naleza Suma Filozoficzna i Suma Teologiczna. W tych monumentalnych dzielach uczony dominikanski zyjacy w czasach sw. Franciszka zabral i usystematyzowal cala ówczesna wiedze z zakresu filozofii i teologii. Dziela te sa podzielone na traktaty. Pewna studentka teologii, zachecona tytulem pierwszego w kolejnosci O prostocie Boga zaczela go czytac. Kto próbowal to czynic, wie o czym tu mówie. Dlatego moze zrodzic sie pytania: „Jaki sens ma poznawanie prawdy o Bogu w Trójcy Swietej? Dlaczego dzisiejsze swieto?” Podstawowa i najwazniejsza wspólnota, której potrzebuje czlowiek, szczególnie ten najmniejszy, to rodzina. Maz i zona, rodzice i dzieci, itd. Pragnienia ludzkiego serca sa wieksze niz on sam. Te bowiem pragnienia, które mozemy odnalezc w naszym wnetrzu, zaczepil w nas On sam. I tylko On moze je w pelni zaspokoic. Bardziej niz zrozumienie wewnetrzne relacje pomiedzy trzema Osobami Trójcy, wazniejsze jest, abysmy naszym zyciem mówili: Chwala Ojcu i Synowi, i Duchowi Swietemu, jak byla na poczatku, teraz i zawsze, i na wieki wieków. Amen. o. Placyd ST. STANISLAUS CLEVELAND, OHIO IN MEMORIAM — MONICA KRAKOWSKI Please remember in your prayers the mother of David, our Music Director. Monica Krakowski passed away last Sunday, after a short illness. No finer tribute can we write than what is written by David on the previous page. David, we extend to you our sincere condolences for your loss, yet we are comforted by knowing that our loving Father has embraced his daughter who will now live for ever in His perfect love. HELLO, GOOD BYE! Brother Jason Brother Jerome This week we welcome to our Franciscan fraternity Br. Jason Welle, OFM. Br. Jason is in initial formation into the Order, preparing for the priesthood with studies in Chicago. He will live with us this summer while completing a chaplaincy internship in the Cleveland Clinic. We also say a kind of farewell to Rev. Br. Jerome Wolbert, OFM. Br. Jerome was recently ordained a deacon in the Byzantine Catholic Church. He has just completed his Master of Divinity degree at Saints Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Pittsburgh, and he will spend the summer and fall finishing a Master of Arts degree. During his studies for the last four years, although he has spent most of his time at the seminary, he has been assigned officially to the friary at Saint Stanislaus. He would typically come for weekends once or twice a month, and most summers he was around as well. When he first moved in with us, we were still living in the convent! Many parishioners are accustomed to praying with him at morning prayer and Mass during the week, while Sunday liturgies were with his own Byzantine community. Br. Jero me’s diaconate ministry will be in the Pittsburgh area, so he will now reside at a friary there. Best wishes, Br. Jerome! Thank you for sharing the gift of your fraternal presence with us. AND ANOTHER GOOD BYE… This Wednesday our school community will gather to bid farewell and congratulations to Mrs. Alice Torrence, who will retire from the ministry of Catholic education after 35 years, 12 of them spent with us at Saint Stanislaus. She has been tireless in her commitment to the children entrusted to our care. Although she is an Irish west-sider, she quickly came to love us here on the east side! In addition to the daily running of the school, Mrs. Torrence shepherded our school through two very difficult periods. One was the shaking out of school closings that affected many parts of the diocese — even our own neighborhood. The other was the tragedy of Fr. Willy’s murder. Our school rests on a solid foundation for a secure future. Thank you, Mrs. Torrence, and God bless you on your retirement! GET YOUR MANNA CARDS . . . Now that we are officially into Summer, we can think of many instances for USING your MANA CARDS and helping the Parish during the summer months. There are grocery stores, restaurants, retail outlets, home improvement stores, and gasoline cards—your establishment is bound to be on the list. Study the order form, place your order, and pick up your cards one week later. That’s how easy it is. STANS HISTORICAL FACT by Rob Jagelewski. During the sixties long before Cedar Point would become the high level amusement park that it is today, the Grade School students closed out every school year in June with a picnic at Euclid Beach Park, situated right on the shores of Lake Erie near the Cleveland/ Euclid border.. This was a high point of the school year as the entire school was bused out to the Park. Many Parishioners have fond memories of Euclid Beach. These included the rides such as the Thriller, the Racing Coaster, Over the Falls, the Bug, “Laughing Sal,” in front of the Fun House, the Scrambler, the Flying Turns, the silver Rocket Ships, and the Laff-In– The Dark. The food was great as well, particularly the frozen custard and the popcorn balls. It was a great way to end the school year. NextBroadway! ST.
