Twinkletoes: A Northern Irish Story

Twinkletoes Karen comes home from her only daughter’s wedding. She is a little drunk, tired and
frustrated because her new shoes were hurting her so much that she couldn’t dance at the wedding.
It’s a strange day for Karen, from now on she will live alone in her little two bed-roomed house in
Derry in Northern Ireland. Karen is feeling lonely and lost so she talks and talks and as she does we
discover her life. She is married to Declan, who was an active member of the IRA, the northern Ireland
freedom fighters and he has been in prison for the last nine years…
The show is followed by a question and answer session aimed to support students’ understanding of
the show.

If you decide to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and join us for this workshop, please wear something GREEN. The
workshop aims to explore both the lighter sides of life such as the great Saint Patrick’s Festival, a four-day event
celebrating the creativity and achievements of the Irish people and the struggles of freedom-fighters. Northern
Ireland, similarly to Poland, has many dark pages of history filled with conflict and national upheaval and yet the
Irish remain one of the happiest and most fun nations in the whole world. Although Northern Ireland's beauty is
entangled with tragic history, participants will also be given a chance to discover its rich culture and the renowned
friendliness of its people.
