Gdańsk 11.11.2013 Lithography Studio Prof. Zbigniew Gorlak Welcome to Lithography Studio of Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. It has been over 200 years, since Alois Senefelder invented the new printing technique using the limestone. Our Academy has become a continuator of this one of the most interesting litography techniques. The high-tech printing press, allowing to make prints up to 100 centimetres long, gives the same comfort of printing, as the gorgeous Karl Krause Leipzig No 24711, an incredible rarity in litography presses. In our studio apart from traditional prints we offer the most recent surface print technology Algraphy, also called Photolithography. In the studio the graphic works are printed not only by our students, but our lecturers prof. Zbigniew Gorlak and the assistant dr Łukasz Butkowski as well. The lithography studio is the precursor of colour printing. This is the place, where prof. Czesław Tumielewicz began to play with the colour. Wiesław Zaremba and the author of these words Zbigniew Gorlak, both the assistants in the 1980s and 90s, mastered this technique then. After separating lithography studio from the linocut workshop, we invited excellent visitting professors of lithography: prof. Beauvais Lyons from Knoxville, USA, prof. Piotr Senewend from Germany, and prof. Paweł Frąckiewicz, a scholar from Tamarynd Institute New Mexico University USA. Working in the studio gives you high technological and intellectual standard, and ensures that young graphic designers will present their works at important graphic competitions, for instance Przegląd Współczesnej Litografii Polskiej (Review of Polish modern Litography) in Kielce. Lithography combines the perfection of the drawing and painter's expression, photolithography allows to obtain quick and excellent prints based on digital technology. Our masters and role models are the great artists such as Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Francesco Goya, Salvador Dali, Robert Rauschenberg, Leon Wyczółkowski, Lucjan Mianowski, and Włodzimierz Kunz. We welcome every one, who enjoys experimenting and experiencing the adventure of amazing technology. We also invite our former students, who would like to create lithography. Teaching staff: head: prof. Zbigniew Gorlak (since 1979) assistant teacher: dr Łukasz Butowski (since 2007)
