Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
You’re standing at the side of a grave with the other mourners. Perhaps the cemetery is “Calvary”...perhaps “All Saints.”
Suddenly you see Jesus carrying His Cross….right past where you are standing. You look at the coffin suspended over the
freshly dug hole in the cold ground….then you look at Jesus.
The priest sprinkles the coffin with Holy Water. Jesus is now staring at you…well, as much as possible...His eyes are swollen nearly shut. You look back at Him, then glance again at the hole in the ground.
People pray aloud with the priest. Jesus is still staring at you...you can see Him from the side of your eyes. You pray with
the others.
The mourners place flowers atop the casket and slowly disperse. You are alone there with the casket, the hole in the ground,
your flower…and Jesus nearby still staring at you.
You reach into your pocket and pull out your handkerchief...to dry your tears. Without giving it any thought you first wipe
your tears... then approach Jesus. You wipe His tears.
Together you walk back up to the casket to place your flower, both carrying the cross. The flower is placed on the casket.
Both you and Jesus cry again. This time He wipes away your tears.
You open your eyes and He is nowhere to be seen. The casket also is gone, already in the ground. Growing on top of it is a
flower. The sun shines on your face. Your tears are dried. Could it be Easter?

HEADLINES
I am a “news junkie.” The morning paper is an essential part of my
morning routine, and the 24-hour news
channels frequently play on the TV.
My radio is tuned almost exclusively
to the local NPR station. I just gotta
know what’s going on!
Likely not everyone is as avid as
this, though some are perhaps more so.
But at a certain level, all of us are
seekers. We want to know what is happening around us, and
how it all fits together, whether we get our news from the PD,
the UB, CNN or FOX — or maybe at Karb’s, the beauty shop,
chain e-mail, or the bleachers at the Little League games.
When we look at the headlines, or listen to the latest gossip,
the news is usually not so good. If this were all we had, we
should remain gloomy indeed. But the final chapter of everything has already been written — not in ink, but in the Blood of
the Lamb. And the theme of that final chapter: G OD WINS !
This is what we celebrate during Easter. There is a certain
way of going about in the world, and through faith we have a
decision to make. How are we going to live? Do we believe
that sin and darkness are all that’s left? Or do we believe that,
in the end, the final word is The Word, one of Light, Life,
Love, Healing, and Peace?

Mozna powiedziec, ze zyjemy w
"czasach paradoksów". Bo kiedy tak
na spokojnie przyjrzymy sie naszemu
zyciu, to stwierdzamy, ze poszerzamy
autostrady, ale horyzonty mamy raczej
coraz wezsze. Budujemy coraz
wieksze domy, ale coraz mniejs ze
rodziny. Coraz wiecej mamy
ekspertów w róznych dziedzinach, ale i
wiecej problemów. Coraz skuteczniejsza mamy medycyne, ale
czujemy sie coraz gorzej. Potrafimy juz dodac kilka lat do
naszego zycia, ale nie zycia do naszych lat. Potrafimy tez
przebyc droge z Ziemi na Ksiezyc i z powrotem, a tak czesto
mamy klopot z przejsciem na droga strone ulicy, by
porozmawiac z sasiadem. Oczyscilismy powietrze, ale
zanieczyscilismy dusze. Nauczylismy sie spieszyc, a nie
czekac. Potrafilismy podwoic nasze dochody, ale i rozwodów
tez jest przynajmniej dwa razy wiecej.
W takich wlasnie zyjemy czasach, kiedy kazdy czlowiek ma
jakby mnóstwo rzeczy na wystawie, ale pustki w magazynie.
Tak rzeczywiscie jest - z czego tu sie wiec cieszyc?
Patrzac tylko po ludzku takie widzenie swiata pozbawione
jest nadziei, a w konsekwencji i radosci. Caly problem chyba w
tym, ze zapominamy, ze jestesmy stworzenia mi o naturze
duchowej i na co dzien w ogóle nie patrzymy na nadzieje z
religijnego punktu widzenia. A bez nadziei o jakakolwiek
radosc zycia po prostu trudno.
Po raz kolejny Pan Bóg daje nam mozliwosc odnowienia
naszej nadziei i radosci: w uroczystosc Zmartwychwstania
naszego Pana Jezusa Chrystusa. Razem z calym stworzeniem
spiewamy w ten poranek: «Chwala Tobie, Jezu Chryste, Ty
królujesz dzisiaj i na wieki». Bo za nas zostal ukrzyzowany i
dla nas zmartwychwstal. Wydaje sie, ze wszystko pozostalo bez
zmian, ale w rzeczywistosci nic nie jest tak, jak dotychczas. On,
Zycie niesmiertelne, odkupil zycie kazdego czlowieka i na
nowo otworzyl je na nadzieje.
Tak wiec dla nas, wszystkich mezczyzn i kobiet trzeciego
tysiaclecia przeznaczony jest paschalny dar swiatla, które
rozprasza mroki leku i smutku. Dla wszystkich przeznaczony
jest dar pokoju zmartwychwstalego Chrystusa, który rozrywa
kajdany przemocy i nienawisci. Z radoscia i zachwytem
odkryjmy w te wielkanocna niedziele na nowo, ze swiat nie jest
juz w niewoli nieuchronnych wydarzen. Czy moga byc bardziej
przekonywujace motywy dla naszej nadziei, i rodzacej sie z niej
radosci?!
W niedziele Zmartwychwstania stajemy u zródel
prawdziwej radosci. Ale zeby to dostrzec, trzeba miec oczy
szeroko otwarte, chociaz (jak powiedzial Lis Malemu
Ksieciu) najwazniejsze jest niewidoczne dla oczu, bo dobrze
widzi sie tylko sercem. Próbujmy wiec spojrzec oczami
serca, czyli oczami naszej wiary. Wiary odnowionej przez
tajemnice Meki, Smierci i Zmartwychwstania Chrystusa. I w
jej swietle popatrzec na historie i terazniejszosc naszego
zycia. Warto wiec w te „Niedziele niedziel” odrobine sie
zatrzymac. I jeszcze raz odnowic w sobie swiadomosc, ze w
Tajemnicy Paschy Chrystusa nastepuje nasze pojednanie z
Ojcem. Czy moze byc wiekszy motyw radosci, niz bycie
dziecmi samego Boga?!

The entire parish is grateful for all our wonderful parishioners and volunteers who
worked so hard and helped to make our Easter experience so special!
Winter is always tough on our campus, and this winter was even harder because of
all the construction going on. John Sklodowski, Stan Koch, and Josh Denham took on
the daunting task of cleaning the church grounds last weekend. The interior of the
church was given wonderful attention by members of the Brother Fidelis Society.
Special thanks to Tim Sklodowski, Connie Ailiff, David Krakowski, Rita Golubski,
Alice Klafczynski, and many others. Many parishioners were able to help out simply
by donating to the flower collection. The choirs rehearsed for many extra hours to
make sure that the glory of God would be proclaimed with joy. God bless all of you
for sharing your talents.
ANNUAL EASTER MASS FOR THE HOMEBOUND
Do miracles still happen? We as Christian believers have hope that God in his
merciful goodness would help us in our time of greatest suffering and need. St.
Stanislaus and the Lil Bros have made it an annual tradition to have a special Easter
Mass for our “homebound” parishioners. We will celebrate this special Liturgy, including anointing of the sick, the Sunday after Easter, April 23, at 2:00 PM. If there
are any parishioners that need assistance in getting to church please call the rectory.

W drug¹ Niedzielê Wielkanocn¹ czyli 23 kwietnia w naszej parafii bêdzie odprawiona uroczysta Msza œw. Wielkanocna dla chorych i wszystkich tych, którzy nie
mog¹ regularnie uczestniczyæ w obchodach Wielkanocy. Msza œw. rozpocznie siê o
godz. 2:00 po po³udniu; podczas tej Mszy zostanie udzielony sakrament Namaszczenia
Chorych, a na zakoñczenie uroczyste b³ogos³awieñstwo. Warto skorzystaæ z okazji i
umo¿liwiæ udzia³ w tej szczególnej Mszy œw. tym wszystkim, którzy nie maj¹
mo¿liwoœci regularnie uczestniczyæ w tego.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
ST. STAN’S HISTORICAL FACT
The two bell tower steeples were
originally 232 feet high. They could be
seen from downtown Cleveland. On
April 21, 1909 the church was hit by a
tornado. The storm destroyed the two
steeples, damaged a large portion of the
roof as well as some stained glass windows, and blew the big iron bells out of
the east bell tower into the schoolyard.
This was the most destructive storm to hit
the City of Cleveland until that time. The
Plain Dealer reported that the damage
was estimated at over one million dollars.
Three individuals were killed and many
more were injured. The Parish banded
together and had the church fixed within
that year. The steeples were not as high
(122 feet) but the bells were recast in St.
Louis and set back in place where they
currently reside in the east bell tower.
COMMUNITY NEWS
FOUR EAGLE AWARD PRESENTATION
Each year for the past three years,
our parish has celebrated our Patron
Saint by hosting an annual awards banquet called the “Four Eagle Award.”
This award is given to an individual or
organization that has been especially
noteworthy in building up the greater St.
Stanislaus community. Past honorees
have been Mr. Ben S. Stefanski II, the
Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth,
and former Mayor Jane Campbell. This year, we are pleased to
announce that the award will be accepted by the Franciscan
Friars of The Province of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and
The Province of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary –
marking the 100-year presence of Franciscans serving the
community of St. Stanislaus. This elegant banquet will be held
on Friday, May 5, 2006, starting at 6 p.m. at the Polish American Cultural Center, East 65 and Lansing. Ticket are $75 per
person. Reservations are a must, so please contact the rectory
at 216-341-9091 by April 28. This is a major fundraising event
and all proceeds go to support the continued advancement of
the spiritual, educational, and cultural mission of the shrine.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Have
you ever considered running for the PPC? Are you interested
in learning more about the Council and its purpose? The coming year will be vitally important for the parishes in Slavic
Village! Bishop Pilla has mandated that all parishes submit
plans to cluster with nearby parishes. The new bishop, Richard
Lennon, has said he will continue this planning process. The
Pastoral Council has a central role in this.
The Parish Pastoral Council will be holding its annual elections in May. This year voting will be held for two 3-year term
members and one 2-year term member. If you have an interest
or any questions, please contact Karen Neuman at
[email protected] or any other PPC member. Deadline to
submit your own name, or to nominate someone else, is Friday, April 28.
2006 MASS DATES OPEN There are still many weekday
dates open in the months of August thru December. Stop by the
rectory office during normal business hours 9:00AM to 5:00 PM
on Thursdays or Fridays. You may also mail your Mass intentions
or drop them into the collection basket along with the customary
stipend and your requested dates.
PERMANENT MEMORIAL GIFT Why not give a gift that
will last as St. Stanislaus Church is here? Have a Memorial Brick
engraved to honor someone you love, living or deceased, and
placed in our Peace Garden this spring. To place your order, come
to the rectory during business hours 9:00 to 5:00 PM Monday thru
Friday or download the order form from our website. We need at
least 50 bricks before we can have them engraved and installed.

COMPUTER RECYCLING. Cuyahoga County residents can
recycle their unwanted computer equipment during Recycle Your
Computer Month this April. This free event is sponsored by the
Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Residents are invited to
drop off their personal computer equipment at over forty participating city service departments. Acceptable items are CPU’s, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, software, old cellular phones and
accessories, and ink printer cartridges. For more information call

GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND, puppy raisers needed.
Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals who are blind or
vis ually impaired through the assistance of well-bred, professionally trained guide dogs, is currently seeking volunteer
puppy raisers.
Free, weekly classes are held on Thursday evenings at St.
Paul Lutheran Church, 276 East Bagley Road, Berea. Those
interested in learning more about GEB volunteer opportunities

RESTORATION EFFORTS HIGHLIGHTED. Resurrection:
Renewal and Rebirth, an exhibit featuring stained glass, liturgical
items, and photographs highlighting the Holy Week Liturgy and
the restoration and community preservation efforts of local parishes will open on April 22, 2006 at the Pilla Center at Ursuline
College on Lander Road in Pepper Pike and close on May 25. The
exhibit times are 8 AM– 8 PM Monday through Friday and 10

ST. STAN’S DAD’S CLUB
will present “A Night At the
Races” at St. Stan’s Social Center on Saturday, April 22. Doors
will open at 6:30 PM, dinner will
be served at 7:00PM and the first
of 12 great races will begin at
7:30 PM. There will be a featured Auction Race after the
regular races.
