While all the other disciples and Jesus’ mother were in Jerusalem trying to understand the amazing fact of the Resurrection, why were these two hurrying out of town? Only one is named—Cleopas. Who was the other? A friend, a brother, a cousin or, perhaps, Cleopas’ wife? The two were going over the terrible events in Jerusalem during the previous days when they were joined by a stranger who asked what they were talking about. He listened intently to their story, and then explained what had happened to Jesus in the larger context of the Jewish scriptures. But these two were too blinded by grief to realize who the stranger was. When they reached the village it was late, so they persuaded him to come into the house, which we may guess was either this couple’s home or a relative’s. The culmination of the story occurs when they sit down for a meal and Jesus breaks bread and gives thanks, at which moment “their eyes were opened” and they knew their guest was the Lord (Luke 24:31). It was not just that they opened their eyes, but they were awakened to a whole new reality. Perhaps that is just the point. God’s grace falls on us in the midst of dinner or as we hurry down the road, trying to get away. God’s grace falls on us smack dab in the everyday, ordinary moments, in the plain and simple struggles to understand, through conversations in the checkout line, at the bedside of a sick relative, during phone calls and driving the car to pick up or deposit the kids. The Emmaus story says that God is alive, right now, in every moment. Wake up and see! Copyright © 2010, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. PANIE ZOSTAŃ Z NAMI. Jezus często lubił przebywać w gościnie. Bywał częstym gościem w domu Łazarza, Marii i Marty. Każdy jednak pobyt w gościnie wykorzystywał, by mówiąc dzisiejszym językiem - aby wygłosić uczestnikom przyjęcia swoją katechezę. Tak też zrobił w domu dwóch uczniów z Emaus. Cały Jego pobyt w domu można sprowadzić do dwóch punktów: 1. Najpierw wyjaśniał im rolę i potrzebę Jego męki, śmierci i zmartwychwstania. 2. Przyjmij do swojego królestwa wszystkie nasze zmarłe Matki. Amen. Page Five A BLESSING FOR MOTHERS We thank you, GOD, for the gift of our mothers, for grandmothers, and godmothers, and mothers-inlaw too. Send your Holy Spirit upon our mothers at whose breasts we were fed, by whose hands we were cleaned and clothed, at times corrected, in whose laps we learned to sing and speak and play and pray, at whose side we hear your word and celebrate your mysteries. Heal their pains and disappointments. Forgive all that needs to be forgiven. Give to them the good that they have given others. Welcome to your bosom those who have died. Fill this world, O God, with a mother’s love! We ask this through your Son Jesus Christ, who gathers us together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen. Very special words of gratitude go out to... and who have dedicated many years of service to St. Priscilla Parish. Virginia Zyburt has spent 30 years helping in the sacristy. She has been an immense help in preparing anything and everything. We are grateful for her unconditional love for God’s house. Similarly, Anna Ramaglia also helped our parish for almost 30 years. Before she started helping out in the sacristy, she helped with the devotion candles. She spent her time cleaning and preparing the candles for the faithful who took advantage of this additional prayer opportunity. Words cannot express how sad we are to lose these helpers around the church, but for personal reasons, they are unable to continue. We will keep you in our prayers; please keep us in yours! May God bless you! -Rev. Religious Education News The last class for Religious Education was April 30th. We have had a very good year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and the children for all their cooperation during this past school year. Our attendance was at an all-time high this year, which tells us that both the parents and children know the value of religious education. I would like to thank the following people: Antoinette Sanders, Sister Agnes Francis SND, Yolanda Gomez, Magdalena Kleszcz, Mitch Luszczyk, Michelle Adamowski, Monica Wieczorek, and Rick Hernandez - for all their dedication and cooperation during the past year. We have an excellent group of people who have volunteered to give up their time to prepare and come to class every week. I would also like to thank Father Idzi and all the people on the staff of St. Priscilla Parish. They are always willing to help me in any way they can. Father Idzi, Father Daniel and Father Stan have always made themselves available for any Masses and Prayer Services that we may plan. We hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you back next year. I will be sending letters out at the beginning of August to let you know about our program for the 2011-2012 school year. Also, I encourage those of you who have access to the Internet to check our new website (stpriscilla.org). Any new information about registration and the beginning of classes will be on the website. Remember to go to Mass and receive the sacraments during the summer months. Judy Banasiak Coordinator of Religious Education
