MORE THAN MIRACLES
D
o you believe that
Jesus is “truly, really and substantially” present in Holy
Communion? (Catechism
of the Catholic Church,
1374)
Before Jesus revealed
that He would give us His
body and blood in Communion, He performed
the amazing miracle of
the multiplication of the
loaves and fish (Jn 6:11ff).
Then Jesus walked on the
water (Jn 6:19ff).
In this context of miracles, Jesus declared: “My
flesh is real food and My
blood real drink” (Jn
6:55). Under these circumstances, you would
think we would believe
anything the Lord said,
even if we didn’t understand it. However, “many
of His disciples broke
“I Myself am the Bread of life.” —John 6:35
away and would not remain in His company any
longer” (Jn 6:66). Only
those believed whom
God the Father drew and
taught (Jn 6:44-45) in the
Spirit (see Jn 6:63).
To believe in Jesus present in the Eucharist, we
need not only the miracles of Jesus but also the
teaching of the Father
and the revelation of the
Spirit. We must be Trinitarian to be eucharistic.
We need the Holy Spirit
of Pentecost to cry out in
our hearts “Abba” (Gal
4:6; Rm 8:15). Then we
will acknowledge the eucharistic Jesus as Lord (1
Cor 12:3).

in the Blessed Sacrament!

W
ymowna jest
rozmowa
Jezusa
z
tymi, których nakarmił
rozmnażając
w
cudowny sposób chleb.
Nie zgodził się na to, by
obwołano Go królem i
opuścił słuchaczy. Tłum
jednak znalazł Go na
przeciwległym brzegu
jeziora. Wówczas Jezus
odsłania ich motywację
mówiąc:
„Szukacie
Mnie nie dlatego, żeście
widzieli znaki, ale dlatego, żeście jedli chleb
do syta”. Innymi słowy,
szukacie nie Mnie, lecz
chleba. Chodzi Wam,
nie o ukrytą we mnie
prawdę, lecz o dobra materialne, których mogę
wam dostarczyć. Jest to
jedna z decydujących
rozmów Mistrza z Nazaretu. Tysiące ludzi po tej
rozmowie przestało się
interesować Prorokiem z
Galilei. W tym momencie Jezus zażądał zdecydowanego opowiedzenia się albo po stronie
prawdy, albo po stronie
pieniędzy. Chrystus ma
do rzeszy pretensje, iż
nie dostrzegła znaku,
dostrzegła jedynie chleb,
symbol wartości docz-
esnych. Jest to dramat i
współczesnego świata,
który znacznie pilniej
zabiega o pieniądze
niż o prawdę. Takim
ludziom Chrystus, który
jest prawdą, nie ma nic
do zaofiarowania. Jest
rzeczą znamienną, że za
zdradę prawdy można
otrzymać pieniądze, ale
nigdy odwrotnie. Nie
da się prawdy kupić
za pieniądze. Można
kupić wiadomości, ale
nie prawdę. Doskonale ukazuje ten mechanizm postawa Judasza.
On sprzedał prawdę
za pieniądze, sprzedał
bezpowrotnie. Szybko
też zrozumiał, że tak zdobyte pieniądze nie mogą
uszczęśliwić człowieka.

O tym, że ewangeliczna
scena rozmowy Jezusa z
Żydami, po cudownym
rozmnożeniu
chleba,
dotyczy właśnie wyboru między pieniędzmi
a prawdą – świadczy
fakt, iż Jezus w jej
zakończeniu jednoznacznie wskazuje na Judasza. On nie odszedł,
nie opowiedział się
wówczas jasno po stronie pieniędzy. Zataił swe

o tym Bogu będziemy

Mothers’ Union Congratulations
The Mothers’ Union

is a charity ‘Caring for
Families’ who amongst
other things is involved in prisons. They
provide safe play areas
for children visiting relatives in prison. They
are looking for new volunteers to help with the
play area at Perth and Glenochil Prisons.

Family Day
St Margaret and St
Ninians, Montrose are
holding a Family Day
in various places
throughout the Diocese,
including Perth, with the
first one taking place in
Montrose on 5th September.
Representatives of the
Lay Societies will be
there to give out information and talk to anyone who would like to
know about the work being done. There will be
food available, bouncy
castle, carousel, fun fair
and various games and
activities for the children, football at nearby
links Park, stalls and raffle.
All will be free of
charge. Holy Mass will
be celebrated in St. Margaret’s for those who
wish to attend and there
will be music and a piano
recital during the day.

SCIAF’s CALL TO ACTION
Pope Francis’ first encyclical Laudato Si: On the care for our common
home is the most radical ever written on the environment, but follows
in the Church’s long tradition of teaching us to care for God’s creation.
Deliberately timed to influence the UN Climate Change summit in
December, Pope Francis calls on world leaders to take decisive action on climate change, characterising their response so far as being
“weak”.
Inspired by Pope Francis SCIAF are petitioning David Cameron, asking
for urgent action on climate change - click here to add your voice.
Caritas aid agencies like SCIAF & CAFOD, along with our supporters,
have spent years campaigning for action on climate change. We see the
devastating effect natural disasters and shifting weather patterns have
on the world’s poorest communities – the people who’ve done least to
cause the problem.
With the publishing of Laudato Si Pope Francis has made clear the issues of climate change, poverty, and caring for our environment cannot
be separated. Addressing these problems will take commitment from
politicians, but also a commitment to make changes in our own lives.
Our current levels of consumption are not sustainable if we’re to
preserve the earth for our children and future generations.
Pope Francis is unequivocal – climate change is a global problem with serious implications, representing one of the principal
challenges facing humanity.
