Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego 3 Cele przedmiotu Cel 1 General aims: -improvement of the communication skills of the learners to facilitate the situations which require using a foreign language; -improvement of the mutual comprehension of the learners participating in the communication process; -closer cooperation and higher effectiveness of the learners professional or academic activity; -higher motivation to learn; -turning the learners into fluent and competent language users; -eliminating language barriers; -cultural enrichment; -personality training of the learners through experiencing the richness of different languages and cultures; -mutual comprehension in the multi-cultural world; -integrating new learning experiences; -learning with higher integration of the activities; -using multi-media learning aids; -using modern information technologies; -dealing with various everyday situations abroad and helping foreigners to deal with such situations in the learners own country; -exchanging information and opinions with the people who speak different languages; -expressing ones own ideas and emotions; -better understanding of other peoples lifestyle, way of thinking and cultural heritage; -preparing the cooperation in education, culture, science, academic study, culture, trade and industry; -forming independent thinking and critical assessment of the situation; -comprehension and production of various texts on different topics, which will allow the learners to solve a problem and deal with a task; -forming language communication skills. 4 Wymagania wstępne 1 Assigning to the group will be carried out on the basis of the placement test (entrance examination) administered before the start of the language course (required knowledge of English: at least level B2) 5 Modułowe efekty kształcenia MW1 Knowledge: knowledge of foreign countries within the field of a given language, including their historical, cultural and social background. MU2 Skills: B2 level The learner has a sufficient range of language to be able to give clear descriptions, express viewpoints on most general topics, without much conspicuous searching for words, using some complex sentence forms to do so. Shows a relatively high degree of grammatical control. Does not make errors which cause misunderstanding, and can correct most of his/her mistakes. SPEAKING: The learner can produce stretches of language with a fairly even tempo. He/she can initiate discourse, take his/her turn when appropriate and end a conversation when he/she needs to. LISTENING: The learner can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. He/she can understand most TV news and current affairs programmes. He/she can understand the majority of films in standard dialect. READING: The learner can read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. He/she can understand contemporary literary prose. WRITING: The learner can write a clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to his/her interests. He/she can write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view. He/she can write letters highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences. MU3 Skills: C1 level The learner has a good command of a broad range of language allowing him/her to select a formulation to express himself/herself clearly in an appropriate style on a wide range of general, academic, professional or leisure topics without having to restrict what he/she wants to say. He/she consistently maintains a high degree of grammatical accuracy; errors are rare and difficult to spot. SPEAKING: The learner can express himself/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. His/her speech is smoothly-flowing and well-structured. LISTENING: The learner can understand extended speech even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implied and not signaled explicitly. He/she can understand television programmes and films without too much effort. READING: The learner can understand long and complex factual and literary texts, appreciating distinctions of style. He/she can understand specialized articles and longer technical instructions, even when they do not relate to his/her field. WRITING: The learner can express himself/herself in clear, well-structured text, expressing points of view at some length. He/she can write about complex subjects in a letter, an essay or a report, underlining what he/she considers to be the salient issues. He/she can select style appropriate to the reader in mind. MU4 Skills: C2 level The learner shows great flexibility reformulating ideas in differing linguistic forms to convey finer shades of meaning precisely. He/she also has a good command of idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms. The Strona 2/5 Krakowska Akademia im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego learner maintains consistent grammatical control of complex language, even if attention is otherwise engaged. SPEAKING: The learner can express himself/herself spontaneously at length with a natural colloquial flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the interlocutor is hardly aware of it. He/she can interact with skill and ease on various topics, in a variety of organizational patterns. LISTENING: The learner has no difficulty in understanding any kind of spoken language, whether live or broadcast, even when delivered at fast native speed, provided he/she has some time to get familiar with the accent. READING: The learner can read with ease virtually all forms of the written language, including abstract, structurally or linguistically complex texts such as manuals, specialised articles and literary works. WRITING: The learner can write clear, smoothly flowing text in an appropriate style. He/she can write complex letters, reports or articles which present a case with an effective logical structure which helps the recipient to notice and remember significant points. He/she can write summaries and reviews of professional or literary works.
