Dear Mr. President, Dear Jerzy,
With great shock and sadness we learned from the tragic death of Piotr Nurowski who
died in the aircraft crash near Smolensk. The whole of Europe was taken aback by this
shocking accident where Poland lost his President and many high ranked military officers,
politicians and sports officials.
On behalf of the whole European Athletics movement I would like to express our most
sincere and heartfelt condolences. Piotr Nurowski was a highly respected person in the
sports world. Throughout the 70ies he served first as Vice-President and then as President
of the Polish Athletics Federation in which function he was at that time the youngest
President of all Sports Federations worldwide. Since five years Piotr Nurowski was President
of the Polish Olympic Committee and for all his life he was dedicated to sports and
athletics.
Please accept and convey our deeply meant condolences to you, your Federation and
Piotr Nurowski’s family.
