RTD and SME, Associations are sought to a COLLECTIVE research project entitled: ""Innovative Polymer Flow
Visualisation for Optimised Machine Design, Improved Mixing and Material Properties, Processing Efficiency and
Energy Reductions".
The project will investigate the application of an innovative polymer flow visualisation technique (Positron
Emission Particle Tracking) for optimised machine design, improved mixing, process efficiency and energy
reductions.
This research project will therefore enable significant benefits to companies throughout the polymer industry,
including: Machine/ Equipment Manufacturers; Software Modelling, Simulation and Visualisation; and Commercial
Polymer Blending / Compounding / Mixing / and Processing.
The project outputs will include:
- Experiment equipment for PEPT investigations of polymer mixing and processing.
- Quantitative and qualitative knowledge relating to polymer flow and additive dispersion / distribution within
polymer mixing / processing equipment (e.g. twin screw extrusion)
- Machine and Equipment Design Criteria / Guidance.
- Simulation / Modelling and Visualisation Software.
- Demonstration and evaluation of the project results in real industrial processes (optimised machine design,
improved mixing and material properties, processing efficiency and energy reductions) .
- To disseminate and exploit the project results to the wider European polymer industry and to ensure effective
technology transfer and training.
