The declaration of The Days for Equality and Tolerance
The declaration of The Days for Equality and Tolerance
Organisational Committee
Poznań 2009
The days for Equality and Tolerance are organised as a celebration of The
UNESCO International Day for Tolerance, which has been celebrated on 16
November since 1995.
We want to pay attention to such fundamental values as:
equality,
tolerance,
respect for diversity
by meetings, workshops, discussions, film shows and other events taking place
during The Days for Equality and Tolerance.
Everyone different, everybody equal – this symbolic slogan has motivated us
for over 5 years.
We believe, that ideas of a democratic country and civil society are co-created
by the recognition of diversities among people and creation of space where
everyone – irrespective of his/her origin, religion, age, sex, health condition,
economic status, sexual orientation, customs or the place of living – may find
his/her place.
We object to discrimination and social inequalities.
We say 'yes' to the idea of discussion, tolerance and respect for difference.
Every year in November we march on the streets of Poznań to remind everyone
of all these values important for us. We want to remind that democracy is not
going to attain maturity until any social group claims to be discriminated by the
state and law on the streets of OUR CITY. We support all the people who fight
for equality, tolerance and respect. These are not only slogans and distant ideals
for us, but tasks and values we want to reach together.
