NOTES AND EVENTS
October - Respect life Month
This is truly the work of God. God cannot leave the crime unpunished: from the ground
on which it has been spilt, the blood of the one murdered demands that God should render
justice (cf. Gn 37:26; Is 26:21; Ez 24:7-8). From this text the Church has taken the name
of the ‘sins which cry to God for justice’, and, first among them, she has included wilful
murder. For the Jewish people, as for many peoples of antiquity, blood is the source of life.
Indeed ‘the blood is the life’ (Dt 12:23), and life, especially human life, belongs only to
God: for this reason whoever attacks human life, in some way attacks God himself.

“CATHOLICS COME HOME “ RETURNS
WITH MAJOR MULTI-MEDIA EVANGELIZATION APPROACH
The Archdiocese of Chicago announced today, August 12, 2010, that the
evangelization initiative, Catholics Come Home Chicago, would return in
December for a second year on local television stations and in parishes
throughout Cook and Lake counties. After a positive response to last year's
efforts, new commercials, combined with various other media, will bring the
welcome message to all people, especially Catholics who have drifted from the
practice of their faith.
ADVERTISING SALES WEEK
Attention Business Owners, Professionals and Self Employed
Liturgical Publications, Inc. (LPi), our bulletin publisher, will have Steve Puchalski our parish
representative visiting our parish within the next few weeks to service our bulletin. We would like
to thank our present advertisers for renewing their ad and thereby continuing their support of our
parish. For those interested in placing a new ad, this is your opportunity.
Our Sunday bulletin is a primary way we use to communicate with you. Through our arrangement
with the Liturgical Publications, the parish does not pay for the bulletin printing, which saves us
thousands of dollars every year.
Our bulletin is supported through the generosity of the advertisers—many of whom are our own
parish members or members of our local community. During these difficult economic times,
please support our advertisers with your patronage. Tell the business owner that you appreciate
their support of our parish through their advertising in the bulletin. This is one small way we can
work within our own community to weather these challenging times. A strong and vibrant
parish is good for our community and a strong business community is good for our parish.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the advertising sales week, please call
Steve at (800) 950-9952, ext. 2435.

T he word Rosary means "Crown of Roses". Our Lady has revealed to several people that
each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose and that each
complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses. The rose is the queen of flowers, and so the
Rosary is the rose of all devotions and it is therefore the most important one. The Holy
Rosary is considered a perfect prayer because within it lays the awesome story of our
salvation. With the Rosary in fact we meditate the mysteries of joy, of sorrow and the
glory of Jesus and Mary. It's a simple prayer, humble so much like Mary. It's a prayer we
can all say together with Her, the Mother of God. With the Hail Mary we invite Her to
pray for us. Our Lady always grants our request. She joins Her prayer to ours. Therefore
it becomes ever more useful, because what Mary asks She always receives, Jesus can
never say no to whatever His Mother asks for.

St. Hedwig - our Patroness
St. Hedwig of Andechs was born in Bavaria in 1174 and died on October
15, 1243. She was a Duchess of Silesia and one of the eight children born
to the Count of Andechs and Duke of Croatia and Dalmatia, Berthold
IV. Hedwig had her education at the monastery of Kitzengen and was
married to Henry I of Silesbia at the age of twelve. Henry I succeeded his
father Boleslo as Duke of Silesia. The union of Henry and Hedwig
brought the Duke closer relations to Germany, since his mother was
German and he was educated in that country. Their reign rendered
inportant services to civilization in the realm; Henry I, as an energetic
prince who established his authority on a firm basis, and Hedwig exercised
her great influence in the government of the land through her prudence,
fortitude, and piety. The couple gave their support to new monastic
foundations, including, among many, the convent of the Cistercian nuns
at Trebnitz in 1202. She is known as the patron of brides, death of
children, difficult marriages, victims of jealousy, widows and duchesses.
She is considered the patron Saint of Bavaria, Berlin, Germany, the diocese of Gorlitz, Germany and Silesia.

FOCUS ON THE WORD
29th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
This Sunday we hear about another aspect of prayer: persistence, not growing weary,
but keeping at it. Persistence also applies to the Mass. If the Mass is the highest form of
prayer, We must keep at it - weekly or even daily.
The life and writings of St. Francis illustrate persistent prayer, including the Eucharist.
This year I have been making a study of St. Francis in preparation for our World Youth
Day pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi and Madrid.
St. Francis left behind few writings, but the authentic works that we do have show the
centrality of the Eucharist in his life. For example, Francis wrote a short letter to his
fellow clerics (he was a deacon himself). In the letter he says, "In this world we have
and see nothing corporally of the Most High except his Body and Blood."* These are
words of man who treasured the Eucharist - and who was disturbed that so many took
the Eucharist lightly. Francis life centered on the Body and Blood of Christ.**
That St. Francis received the Eucharist regularly can be seen in his "Prayer Inspired by
the Our Father." He gives a beautiful explanation of each phrase of the Lord's Prayer.
But when he comes to "Our Daily Bread" he says simply, "Your Own Beloved Son, our
Lord Jesus Christ." That is the daily bread we should also desire - Jesus, truly present in
the Eucharist.
So, St. Francis´ life illustrates this Sunday's Gospel: to pray with persistence - and the
most basic prayer is the Eucharist. As Francis says, the Eucharist is the one place where
we corporally see and have the Most High. Like Francis we desire the Father's own
Beloved Son be Our Daily Bread. Amen.

CONSISTENCIA EN LA ORACION
SIN DESANIMARSE
Dios desea una relación estrecha conmigo, el
quiere mostrarme su amor, misericordia y
abundantes bendiciones, pero por mi
condición humana muchas veces no puedo
recibir en plenitud su amor, misericordia y
bendiciones.
nuestro arrepentimiento y total disponibilidad
Trieste, alegre, enojado, angustiado,
ofendido? ¿Cómo pedirle lo que tanto mi
hijo,
matrimonio,
economía,
etc., necesita?
nuestras almas.
Jedyny to
Nieustannie
się módlcie! W każdym położeniu dziękujcie, taka jest bowiem wola Boża w Jezusie Chrystusie
względem was!”, ma być nieustanna i wytrwała. Piękną jej starotestamentalną ilustracją jest
pierwsze czytanie mszalne dzisiejszej niedzieli. Mojżesz w Księdze Wyjścia (17,8-13) trwa na
modlitwie wspomagany umysłem, sercem i rękoma swoich ziomków, odnosząc zwycięstwo nad
Amalekitami. To symbol - obraz wspólnej modlitwy Kościoła - wspólnoty wierzących
grzeszników w trudnej drodze do nieba.
to beznadziejne. Przeżywając, winniśmy uświadomić sobie - jak pięknie pisze ks. Jan Twardowski - iż taką cierpliwą, wytrwałą modlitwą jest Różaniec. Kiedy powtarzamy "Zdrowaś
Maryjo”, to tak, jakbyśmy nieustannie trzymali się ręki Matki Boskiej, a kiedy wymawiamy imię
Jezus - jakbyśmy pukali do drzwi Bożego domu.
Rąbek tajemnicy modlitwy, po ludzku nieskutecznej i niewysłuchanej, odsłania wzruszający
napis na ścianie afrykańskiego szpitala: "Prosiłem o siłę, bo pragnąłem czegoś dokonać.
Zostałem słaby, aby nauczyć się pokory.
