SUMMER EUCHARIST IN THE LOWER CHURCH
Please take a note, our weekend Masses move as of
this weekend, June 11th - 12th, to the lower church for the
period of Summer. We will return to the upper church in
September.
FATHER’S DAY REMEMBRANCE
Father's Day is celebrated on June 19h. If you would
like to have fathers (living or deceased) remembered in
our Masses that day, please use the envelopes that are
available in church.
If you would like these names to be included in our
printed listing, envelopes must be returned by Sunday,

NEW WALKWAY BETWEEN THE PARKVILLE
AND NEWKIRK AVENUES
We have just completed a beautiful walkway between the church and the rectory. It is made of brick
pavers to compliment the decor of our church. There
are benches for the parishioners to rest and pray. The
cost for the project is as follows: labor & material $12,000; 3 benches - $600 total; 3 planters - $900
total. Parishioners interested in sponsoring the endeavor in honor of their loved ones are ask to contact
Father Luke for more details.

ADULT CONFIRMATION
At the 10:45 Mass this Sunday, Jose Moore, Crystal
Otero, and Ariana Perdomo will complete their initiation into our Catholic faith by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. We congratulate them and
promise to keep them in our prayers as they continue
their journey of faith.
PASTORAL INSTITUTE
The Pastoral Institute of the Diocese is sponsoring a
10-week program of theological study. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in
taking a short-term course of study to update his/her
knowledge of our faith. The courses are offered in
various locations and will be conducted in English,
Spanish, Polish, Creole, and Mandarin. Brochures
are available on the tables in the back of the church.

TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading - Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles
begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11).
Psalm - Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of
the earth (Psalm 104).
Second Reading - In one Spirit we are baptized into one
body and given to drink of one Spirit
(1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13).
Gospel - Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends
them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain
sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23).
FEAST OF FAITH
Liturgy: Work of the Spirit
The Spirit of God who hovered over the waters at the
dawn of creation - the Holy Spirit who descended upon
the disciples at Pentecost in ever-changing forms in the
sound of a mighty wind or tongues of flame - hovers also
over our celebration of the liturgy, giving it life, making it
real. It is the Spirit of God who draws us, gathering us
together, Sunday after Sunday. It is the Spirit of God who
called loudly to the inspired writers of the scriptures and
who continues to whisper to us, revealing ever-new facets
of God’s word, granting insight just when we need it. It is
by the Spirit’s power that, when Christ’s words are
uttered by the priest, the bread and wine become the Body
and Blood of Christ. And it is surely the Spirit who
inspires us - that is, breathes in us - when, sent forth from
the assembly, we seek ways to serve our brothers and
sisters, to allow the gospel to come to life in the world.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and
kindle in them the fire of your love.
THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT
Students, and most adults recalling their school days,
are familiar with the phrase “compare and contrast” that
shows up from time to time on tests. Today we hear two
different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the
Church. Let’s contrast, then compare. Luke’s account
from Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind
from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of
different languages. John’s account seems timid: fearful
disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling of breath
from his risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern
minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy culture
probably makes us prefer the former. But if we compare
the two, we find that the dazzling richness of the Spirit
fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen
Christ, ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to his
disciples in John and sends his followers forth to carry on
his mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty
acts of God.

Zgodnie z tradycją z ubiegłych lat, zapraszamy Państwa

Już prawie dwa tysiące lat temu Duch Święty rozlał
w Kościele strumienie wody żywej. Wszyscy mogą
z nich zaczerpnąć, wszystkich Chrystus zaprasza: „Kto
jest spragniony, a wierzy we Mnie, niech przyjdzie do
Mnie i pije!”. Każdy z nas może dziś przyjąć dar
przebaczenia grzechów, by żyć w wolności dzieci Boga.
Każdy z nas może dzielić się z innymi pokojem serca,
którego udziela nam Chrystus przez swego Ducha.

ZESŁANIE DUCHA ŚWIĘTEGO
ZIELONE ŚWIĄTKI
Kiedy nadszedł dzień Pięćdziesiątnicy, znajdowali się
wszyscy razem na tym samym miejscu. Nagle dał się
słyszeć z nieba szum, jakby uderzenie gwałtownego
wiatru, i napełnił cały dom, w którym przebywali.
Ukazały się im też języki jakby z ognia, które się
rozdzieliły, i na każdym z nich spoczął jeden. I wszyscy
zostali napełnieni Duchem Świętym, i zaczęli mówić
obcymi językami, tak jak im Duch pozwalał mówić.
Przebywali wtedy w Jerozolimie pobożni Żydzi ze
wszystkich narodów pod słońcem. Kiedy więc powstał ów
szum, zbiegli się tłumnie i zdumieli, bo każdy słyszał, jak
przemawiali w jego własnym języku. Czyż ci wszyscy,
którzy przemawiają, nie są Galilejczykami? - mówili pełni
zdumienia i podziwu. Jakżeż więc każdy z nas słyszy swój
własny język ojczysty? - Partowie i Medowie, i Elamici, i
mieszkańcy Mezopotamii, Judei oraz Kapadocji, Pontu i
Azji, Frygii oraz Pamfilii, Egiptu i tych części Libii, które
leżą blisko Cyreny, i przybysze z Rzymu, Żydzi oraz
prozelici, Kreteńczycy i Arabowie - słyszymy ich
głoszących w naszych językach wielkie dzieła Boże.

MODLITWA DO DUCHA ŚWIĘTEGO
Duchu Przenajświętszy, racz mi udzielić daru
mądrości, abym zawsze umiejętnie rozróżniał dobro od
zła i nigdy dóbr tego świata nie przedkładał nad dobro
wieczne; daj mi dar rozumu, abym poznał prawdy
objawione na ile tylko jest to możliwe dla nieudolności
ludzkiej; daj mi dar umiejętności, abym wszystko odnosił
do Boga, a gardził marnościami tego świata; daj mi dar
rady, abym ostrożnie postępował wśród niebezpieczeństw
życia doczesnego i spełniał wolę Bożą; daj mi dar
męstwa, abym przezwyciężał pokusy nieprzyjaciela
i znosił prześladowania, na które mógłbym być

MISIAS DE VERANO EN LA IGLESIA DE ABAJO.
Comenzando el próximo domingo las misas se
comenzarán a celebrar en la iglesia de abajo. Esto será por
el tiempo de verano.
LA RIQUEZA DEL ESPÍRITU
Los estudiantes, y la mayoría de los adultos que
recuerdan sus días de escuela, están familiarizados con la
frase “compara y contrasta” que de tanto en tanto aparece
en las pruebas. Hoy escuchamos dos relatos diferentes
sobre la venida del Espíritu. Contrastemos y luego
comparemos. El relato de Lucas en Hechos está lleno de
detalles impresionantes: El viento poderoso, llamas de
fuego como lenguas, el milagro de las diferentes lenguas.
El relato de Juan parece tímido: discípulos temerosos, el
Cristo llagado, el soplo de aliento viene de su cuerpo
resucitado y no del cielo. Mientras nuestras mentes
modernas y literales se preguntan de qué manera sucedió;
nuestra ruidosa cultura probablemente nos hará preferir el
primer relato. Pero si comparamos los dos, la
deslumbrante riqueza del Espíritu llena ambos relatos, ya
que es el mismo aliento del Cristo resucitado, ascendido a
los cielos en Lucas, el que se aparece a sus discípulos en
Juan y envía a sus seguidores a llevar a cabo su misión de
perdonar los pecados y proclamar los portentos de Dios. ©

FIESTA DE LA FE
El altar como la mesa familiar
Después de la Liturgia de la Palabra, la asamblea y la
oración litúrgica cambian de escenario. La mirada de la
asamblea, así como todos sus movimientos se fijan ahora
en el altar. Este altar tiene forma de mesa, ¡es una mesa!
En torno a ella la asamblea comerá el pan y la bebida de
salvación. A él van quienes tienen hambre, quienes
afectados por su naturaleza humana, han dado paso al
pecado en su propia vida y sienten la necesidad de
reconciliarse, no sólo consigo mismos, sino con sus
hermanos y sobre todo, con Dios. Esta es la mesa de la
unidad, de donde fluye el amor sin límites, el pan de vida.
A él van quienes se sienten vacíos aun cuando lo tienen
todo. En esta mesa – altar, no hay diferencia alguna, todos
solidarios por la filiación divina, por la fraternidad con
Cristo, por la condición humana que nos une en la gracia
y en el pecado nos separa. Venimos a esta mesa
reafirmando lo que somos como hijos e hijas de Dios,
venimos a presentarnos nosotros mismos como don vivo,
como ofrenda agradable, venimos a ofrecer un sacrificio
de alabanza, a bendecir a Dios porque él mismo ya nos ha
bendecido.
