Doctoral dissertation:
Socio-economic determinants of entrepreneurship development on rural
areas (on the example of Warmia and Mazury province) [manuscript]
The aim of the dissertation was to characterize socio-economic determinants of
entrepreneurship development on rural areas in Poland after the accession to the European
Union. In 2008 the research included 51 communes (urban-rural and rural) in Warmia and
Mazury province, perceived as one of less-developed EU regions. Survey questionnaires were
sent to local self-governments’ authorities, whereas 255 direct interviews were done with
selected leading local entrepreneurs. The collected theoretical and empirical data allowed to
evaluate socio-economic situation of the province and the communes as well as the local
entrepreneurs’ activities. Mathematical and statistical methods were applied to analyse the
empirical data.
