OVERVIEW When the initial self-test finishes, the TP-051 GPS receiver begins the process of satellite acquisition and automatic tracking. Under normal circumstances, it takes approximately 50 seconds to achieve a position fix, 35 seconds if ephemeris data is known. After a position fix has been calculated, information about valid position, velocity and time is transmitted over the output channel. The TP-051 GPS receiver utilizes initial data, such as last stored position, date, time and satellite orbital data, to achieve maximum acquisition performance. If significant inaccuracy exists in the initial data, or the orbital data is obsolete, it could take more time to achieve a navigation process. The TP-051 GPS receiver Auto-locate feature is capable of automatically determining navigation without intervention from the host system. However, acquisition performance can be improved when the host system initializes the TP-051 GPS receiver in the following situation: I. Moving further than 500 kilometers. II. Failure of Data storage due to the inactive internal memory battery. 2. FEATURES The TP-051 provides the features that make the host easy for integration. \ Full navigation accuracy provided by Standard Positioning Service (SPS). \ Support high sensitivity for very weak signal acquisition and tracking. \ Integrated powerful CPU and base band hardware in an System On Chip (SOC) design reduceing the space and power consumption in the state of the art. \ Advanced IC technology that makes the total receiver cost saving. \ Allows the receiver to track the satellites using up to 12-channel correlators. \ Fast TTFF for cold start, warm start and hot start. \ High performance firmware drives an excellent positioning speed. \ Dual serial communication channels and user selectable baud rates \ Designed with a maximum interface capability and flexibility. \ Optional downloadable firmware code support for upgrading into advanced programs. \ Supports a backup power to sustain the internal clock. \ Fit for Notebook, PC, PDA and so on \ Optional USB cable, PDA connector 3 3. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE TP-051 GPS RECEIVER 9 Low power consumption 9 Firmware (F/W) upgradeable 9 Perfectly Support and timely service - Kinds of technical document - Supporting Programs (demo program and upgrading program) 9 Cost competitive - Own brand - Steady Capacity 9 Rigorous quality control - Designed and manufactured in Taiwan - Quality Control done on each manufacturing process -12 Months warranty 9 Waterproof G-mouse - Hands-on testing by placing the G-mouse under water for 72 hours, making sure the totally waterproof feature. 4. APPEAREANCE AND STRUCTURES TP-051 GPS Receiver has an elegant look and unique streamline design, which is different from the other G-mouse brands. It consists of a GPS receiver, where using a PS2 cable enables the user to connect the G-mouse to a PC. If the user terminal does not support PS2, we also offer USB, RS232 cable converter and Y cable converter (1) to suit people’s needs. (1) The Y-Cable is used to connect a device to a PDA 4 5. APPLICATIONS The application of G-mouse can be used on different fields because it is easy to be carried around the world. It is not only applicable on car navigation, but also can be used at outdoor activities such as: Hunting Hiking Biking Traveling Car navigation Mapping Surveying 5 6. INSTALLATION STEPS FOR THE TP-051 G-MOUSE 6.1 Connect the TP-051 G-MOUSE PS2 Female connector to the PS2 Male connector using the USB/PS2 cable converter. 6.2 Connect the USB plug from the USB/PS2 cable converter into your USB port. 6.3 Windows will detect the new device and will prompt the hardware installation 6 6.4 Select the location of the driver and follow the installation wizard. 7 6.5 To verify if the TP-051 G-MOUSE was properly installed: a. Connect the TP-051 to device (such as notebook or PC) which supports RS232 port . After getting connected, the greet light on the TP-051 will flicker. PS2 (female) RS232 Port RS232 Port PS2 (male) 13 2. Open the EMT Demo software. 3. First, make sure in which COM Port the G-mouse is connected. Then in the dropdown box First Option select the COM port in which the G-mouse is connected. For the second dropdown box Baud Rate select 4800. Under no circumstances don’t change the settings, otherwise it wilcause failure of detection. Then click on OK to confirm the connection. 4. Click on Window, then click on Radar View, press the PLAY button on the top of the window, and after finishing the position, the green light will stop flickering. At this time, you can find out the position with a red sign in the view. 14 5. Select Signal View, watch the status of the signal , and then select the same connection port as in First Port. 15 11. HOW TO TEST TP-051 GPS RECEIVER WITH OTHER SOFTWARE You can test TP-051 by using any other map software, and you can also use the Hyper Terminal program of Windows to verify its function. The following is a “Quick guide to setup the Hyper Terminal”. Note: The following procedure is based on Win98. If you are using Win ME, Win2000 or other Windows, the procedure is similar to Win98. Please be aware of the difference among them. A. Install the Hyper Terminal on Win98: 1. Prepare the WIN98 CD 2. Install the Win98 with the full set of application packages (the Hyper Terminal software package is bounded in the Win98 CD). 3. Or copy the file Hyptrm.exe from any where available to your Hard Drive and run the file to install it directly. B. Setup the Hyper Terminal for the DCT9201 console application: (The following steps may be different if you install the Hyper Terminal program with a different version or on a different directory or location) 1. Select “Start” in the desktop toolbar. 2. Select “Programs” in the menu of “Start”. 3. Select “Accessories” in the menu of “Programs”. 4. Select “Communications” in the menu of “Accessories”. 5. Select “Hyper Terminal” in the menu of “Communications” and it pops up the directory box. 6. Select and execute “Hyper Terminal” icon for creating a new terminal (You can select the existing terminal icon for running it directly). Then it pops up the Hyper Terminal window on the desktop and the “Connection description” menu box. 7. Select an icon and give a name in the “Connection description” menu box in order to create the terminal. Then click “OK” to pop up the “Connect to” menu box. 16 8. In the “Connect to” menu box, ignore “Nation code”, “Area code” and “Phone number” and select COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4 from “Connect using” menu (In general, you are able to use COM1 or COM3 for RS-232 console terminal connection). Then click on “OK” to pop up the “Port Settings” menu in the “COMx properties” menu box. 9. In the “COMx properties” menu box, select “115200” (or other) for “Bits per second”, “8” for “Data bits”, “None” for “Parity”, “1” for “Stop bits” and “None” for “Flow control” and click “OK” to finish the port settings and return to the Hyper Terminal window. 17 10. Select “File” from the Hyper Terminal menu bar and active “Properties” from the File menu to pop up the “Connect to” menu box. 11. In the “Connect to” menu of the“Terminal Properties” menu box, you can change the terminal icon by clicking on “Change Icon” button and re-select the COM-port from “Connect using” menu and you can also click on the “configure” button to re-configure the COM-port settings, e.g. Bits per second, Data bits, Parity, Stop bits and Flow control. 12. In the “Settings” menu of “Properties” menu box, you can configure the terminal 18 settings. Please set the “Function, arrow, and ctrl keys act as” to “Terminal keys”, set “Backspace key sends” to “Ctrl-H”, set “Emulation” to “ANSI” or “VT100”. 13. And you can also select the cursor type from the “Terminal Setup” button in this menu box. The last setting in this menu box is “ASCII setup”. Click the “ASCII setup” button to pop up the ASCII setup menu. 14. In the ASCII setup menu, you need to select “Wrap lines that exceed terminal width” item of ASCII receiving only and the others can’t be selected (including that not send line-feeds, not echo character locally, zero line delay, zero character delay, not append line-feeds and not use 7-bit ASCII). 19 20
