Rights and licence statistics
2007: in rights and licence purchases from German publishing companies, the rising trend continues for
Poland. At 767 titles (2006: 681, 2005: 604, 2004: 468, 2003: 506, 2002: 326) Poland has again secured first
place ahead of the entire world. This favourable trend applies to the majority of categories: fiction (2007:
74 titles, 2006: 59 titles), children's and teen books (2007: 150 titles, 2006: 114 titles) - including picture
books and non-fiction, and general non-fiction (2007: 380 titles, 2006: 336 titles). There has been a drop
in the academic and STM category (2007: 41, 2006: 49 titles) and for how-to manuals and self-help titles
(2007: 154, 2006: 158). In general, it can be seen that prospects are very good. Successful cooperation
between Polish and German representatives of the book industry, as well as keen activity from cultural
institutes in the area of translation funding (further information: Book Market Contact Office in Warsaw)
justify the hope that rights and licence sales will flourish in the years ahead.
