Wojtek Wronski is an artist of young generation who already has interesting artistic
achievements. He paints, draws, creates artifacts and installations which are a
particular, ironic commentary on modern culture. Wronski’s works are strongly rooted in
modernity, with all its media glitter and consumerist abundance, and they allude to the
pop culture esthetics and graffiti. Wojtek Wronski’s artifacts and collages are created
from ready-made elements, most often from children toys that are combined and
transformed – or rather transmogrified – by the artist who changes their ‘nice’ features
into more grim ones, making them malevolent icons of modernity. In a ruthless, yet also
ironic, manner the artists uses the ‘nice’ looking icons – the symbols of American pop
culture, which are as strongly desired as the toys from Pewex (a chain of hard currency
stores in communist Poland) used to be; the artist reveals the illusionary nature of
modern culture and discloses the falsification of the reality created by the media. He is
consistent in making this ‘naturally’ nice reality more complicated as from all too
unambiguous objects he constructs the objects that are ambiguous, and he gives them
their ‘new’ nature by virtue of transforming their original form. This transposition is even
more interesting as it consists in only a slight shift of the stress, which results in an
apparently tamed thing oozing the eldritch.
Wojtek Wroński jest artystą młodego pokolenia o interesującym dorobku
artystycznym. Zajmuje się malarstwem, rysunkiem, tworzy obiekty i instalacje, będące
swoistym, ironicznym komentarzem współczesnej kultury. Prace Wrońskiego bardzo
mocno osadzone we współczesności, z całym jej medialnym blichtrem i konsumpcyjnym
bogactwem, nawiązują do estetyki pop-kultury, graffiti. Obiekty i kolaŜe Wojtka
Wrońskiego powstają z gotowych elementów, najczęściej z dziecięcych zabawek, które
połączone, przetworzone – czy lepiej przepotworzone przez artystę, zmieniają swój
„miły” charakter na bardziej ponury, stając się złowrogimi ikonami współczesności. Z
bezwzględnością, ale i ironicznie, wykorzystując „miłe” dla konsumenckiego oka ikony –
symbole
amerykańskiej
popkultury,
będące
tak
samo
mocno
poŜądanymi
przedmiotami, jak niegdyś w Polsce zabawki z Pewexu, artysta demaskuje iluzyjność
współczesnej kultury, obnaŜając zafałszowania medialnie wykreowanej rzeczywistości.
Konsekwentnie
komplikuje
jej
„naturalnie”
przyjemny
charakter,
konstruując
przedmioty niejednoznaczne z aŜ nazbyt jednoznacznych, nadając im „nową” naturę
przez przekształcenie ich pierwotnej formy. Ta transpozycja jest o tyle interesująca, Ŝe
polega tylko na delikatnej zmianie w rozłoŜeniu akcentów, co sprawia, Ŝe z pozornie
oswojonej rzeczy wypełza niesamowite.
