The following letter was written to our pastor,
Fr. Radek, on January 2, 2008 from The Most
Rev. Thomas J. Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop of
Chicago and Episcopal Vicar of Vicariate IV in
regard to the 2008 Annual Catholic Appeal.
PLEASE READ THIS LETTER WHICH CONTAINS GOOD NEWS FOR OUR PARISH!
Dear Father Radek:
In consultation with the Deans of Vicariate IV, I am pleased to
inform you that St. Mary of Czestochowa Parish has been designated to conduct the Annual Catholic Appeal for one year with all
proceeds collected to be used to pay down the debt owed to the
Archdiocesan Bank by your parish. Moreover, the Archdiocese will
match all funds raised up to the amount of the parish goal for the
Annual Catholic Appeal and apply them to the parish debt. The
Deans and I hope that your parishioners will respond to this appeal with generosity both for the good of the parish and for the
Archdiocese of Chicago.
On behalf of Cardinal George, thank you for all that you do in
advancing the mission of the Church in Chicago.

The dates for the next two Religious Education (CCD) classes are February 9,
2008 and February 16, 2008 Classes
begin at 8:00am. Dismissal is at 10am.
First Holy Communion Parent Meetings :
On Wednesday, January 23, 2008 a meeting will be
held in the Spanish language for all parents of students that will receive their First Holy Communion
in May. The meeting will begin at 6:30pm in Makuch Hall. A First Holy Communion meeting will be
held in the English language on Thursday, January 24, 2008.

Confirmation Parent Meeting:
On Monday, January 28, 2008 there will
be a meeting for all parents of students
that will receive the sacrament of Confirmation. This meeting will begin at
6:30pm in Makuch Hall.
These mandatory meetings are to be attended by parents of St.
Mary’s School students as well as by parents of CCD students.
All of the information you will need to prepare your children for
the reception of their First Holy Communion and the sacrament
of Confirmation will be distributed at these meetings.
OUR SCHOOL IS IN NEED OF YOUR HELP! Please consider ordering
items from Market Day or participating in the Home Run Inn fundraiser
for the benefit of our school children.
Market Day order forms are available at all entrances
of the church. Order forms can be dropped in the
collection baskets or can be brought to the school
office during school hours. The deadline for placing
orders is Thursday, January 31st. Internet orders are
due by noon on Monday, February 4th. Orders will
be available for pick-up on Thursday, February 7th in the school
Home Run Inn Frozen Pizza Sale:
The school children invite all parishioners to help
them with their Annual Pizza Sale. Order forms
can be found at all church entrances. Size of pizzas and prices are:
► 6” (individual size) cheese, sausage, pepperoni @$3 each.
► 12” cheese, sausage, pepperoni @ $8 each
► 12” Deep Dish Pizza, cheese or sausage @ $8 each.
► $10 Gift Card - can be used at any of the Home Run Inn Restaurants. Gift cards make great gifts (Valentine’s Day, Easter Baskets,
Birthdays, etc.)
Payment must accompany the order and must be dropped off at the
school office no later than Friday, February 1, 2008. Orders can also be
dropped off at the rectory office or placed in the collection basket. Pickup date is Thursday, February 14, 2008 from 2pm to 3pm.

What do John the Baptist and the
prophet Samuel have in common? For
one thing, they both had the gift of discernment. When Samuel visited Jesse
and his sons, he could tell that only
one—David—was fit to be king of Israel. Centuries later, John
was baptizing in the river Jordan when Jesus came toward him.
Seeing him, John exclaimed. “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
Spiritual discernment is a gift that God gives to everyone who
has been baptized into Christ. That means us! Now God wants
us to learn how to use this gift. He knows it’s the best way for us
to come to know his will for our lives—and for our everyday
situations as well.
On one level, we all have the basic ability to discern good from
bad and righteousness from sin. On a deeper level, however,
we know that the distinction between right and wrong can be
“murky” at times. For these “gray areas,” we need to be more
careful. First, we need to take the issue to prayer and ask God
for clarity. Then, we need to examine our hearts. What is motivating us? How do the choices we are contemplating, measure
against the commands of God and the teachings of the church?
How do they stack up against what we know about God’s character intentions? Then, to the best of our ability, we should decide— always preferring to err on the side of caution.
John the Baptist was able to discern how he should live because he stayed close to the Holy Spirit. So did Samuel. For
both, their gift of discernment took them beyond themselves and
enabled them to read people’s hearts and detect the Spirit’s
movements in the world around them. For them—as well as for
us –discernment was nothing less than insight into the very
mind and heart of God. And that’s a proposition that brings
benefits beyond measure.

The Spanish choir “Mensajeros de
Jesús” (Messangers of Jesús) - formerly known as the “Agua Viva Choir”
is in need of a Bass Guitarist. Male
and female singers are also needed to
donate their time and talents to the
choir. This choir participates in the
12:30PM Mass every Sunday and also sings at the 7PM liturgy
for the Charismatic group on Wednesdays. Please contact Emilio
Huerta or Miguel Vazquez after the 12:30PM Mass to learn more
about this choir and to find out when and where they practice.

La Conversión del Pablo (25 de Enero)
Saulo, nacido en Tarso, hebreo, fariseo
rigorista, bien formado a los pies de Gamaliel, muy apasionado, ya había tomado parte en la lapidación del diácono Esteban,
guardando los vestidos de los verdugos
"para tirar piedras con las manos de todos",
como interpreta agudamente San Agustín. De espíritu violento,
se adiestraba como buen cazador para cazar su presa. Con ardor
indomable perseguía a los discípulos de Jesús. Pero Saulo cree
perseguir, y es él el perseguido. Thompson, en El mastín del cielo, nos presenta a Dios como infatigable cazador de almas. Y
cazará a Saulo. "Cuando Jesús se evade del grupo de sus discípulos, dice Mauriac, sube al cielo y se disuelve en la luz, no se trata
de una partida definitiva. Ya se ha emboscado en el recodo del
camino que va de Jerusalén a Damasco, y acecha a Saulo, su
perseguidor bienamado. A partir de entonces, en el destino de
todo hombre existirá ese mismo Dios al acecho". Mientras Saulo
iba a Damasco en persecución de los discípulos de Jesús, una voz
le envolvió, cayó en tierra y oyó la voz de Jesús: Saulo, Saulo
¿por qué me persigues? Saulo preguntó: ¿Quién eres tú, Señor?
Jesús le respondió: Yo soy Jesús a quien tú persigues. ¿Y qué
debo hacer, Señor? Pocas veces un diálogo tan breve ha transformado tanto la vida de una persona. Cuando Saulo se levantó estaba ciego, pero en su alma brillaba ya la luz de Cristo. "El vaso de
ignominia se había convertido en vaso de elección", el perseguidor en apóstol, el Apóstol por antonomasia. Desde ahora "el camino de Damasco, la caída del caballo", quedarán como símbolo
de toda conversión. Quizá nunca un suceso humano tuvo resultados tan fulgurantes. Quedaba el hombre con sus arrebatos, impetuoso y rápido, pero sus ideales estaban en el polo opuesto al de
antes de su conversión. San Pablo será ahora como un fariseo al
revés. Antes, sólo la Ley. En adelante únicamente Cristo será el
centro de su vida. La caída del caballo representa para Pablo un
auténtico punto sin retorno. "Todo lo que para mí era ganancia,
lo tengo por pérdida comparado con Cristo. Todo lo tengo por
basura con tal de ganar a Cristo. Sólo una cosa me interesa: olvidando lo que queda atrás y lanzándome a lo que está delante,
corro hacia la meta, hacia el galardón de Dios, en Cristo Jesús".
Pablo es llamado "el Primero después del único". La vocación de
Pablo es un caso singular. Es un llamamiento personal de Cristo.
Pero no quita valor al seguimiento de Pablo. En el Evangelio hay
otros llamamientos personales del Señor, como el del joven rico
y el de Judas Iscariote, que no le siguieron o no perseveraron.
"Dios es un gran cazador y quiere tener por presa a los más fuertes" (Holzner). Pablo se rindió: "He sido cazado por Cristo Jesús". Pero pudo haberse rebelado. Normalmente los llamamientos del Señor son mucho más sencillos, menos espectaculares.
No suelen llegar en medio del huracán y la tormenta, sino sostenidos por la suave brisa, por el aura tenue de los acontecimientos
ordinarios de la vida, Todos tenemos nuestro camino de Damasco. A cada uno nos acecha el Señor en el recodo más inesperado
del camino.

Jan zobaczył Jezusa, nadchodzącego ku niemu, i rzekł:
Oto Baranek Boży, który gładzi grzech świata. To jest
Ten, o którym powiedziałem: Po mnie przyjdzie Mąż,
który mnie przewyższył godnością, gdyż był wcześniej
ode mnie. Ja Go przedtem nie znałem, ale przyszedłem
chrzcić wodą w tym celu, aby On się objawił Izraelowi. Jan dał takie świadectwo: Ujrzałem Ducha, który
jak gołębica zstępował z nieba i spoczął na Nim. Ja Go
przedtem nie znałem, ale Ten, który mnie posłał, abym
chrzcił wodą, powiedział do mnie: Ten, nad którym
ujrzysz Ducha zstępującego i spoczywającego nad
Nim, jest Tym, który chrzci Duchem Świętym. Ja to
ujrzałem i daję świadectwo, że On jest Synem Bożym.

Nawrócenie św. Pawła
(25 stycznia)
Szaweł urodził się w Tarsie
około 5-10 roku po Chrystusie. Pochodził z żydowskiej
rodziny silnie przywiązanej
do tradycji. Byli niewolnikami, którzy zostali wyzwoleni. Szaweł odziedziczył po
nich obywatelstwo rzymskie. Uczył się rzemiosła - tkania
płótna namiotowego. Później przybył do Jerozolimy, aby
studiować Torę. Być może był uczniem Gamaliela. Gorliwość w strzeżeniu tradycji religijnej sprawiła, że mając
około 25 lat stał się zdecydowanym przeciwnikiem i prześladowcą Kościoła. Uczestniczył jako świadek w kamienowaniu św. Szczepana. Około 35 roku z własnej woli
udał się z listami polecającymi do Damaszku (Dz 9, 1n;
Ga 1, 15-16), aby tam ścigać chrześcijan. U bram miasta
olśniła go nagle światłość z nieba. A gdy upadł na ziemię,
usłyszał głos: "Szawle, Szawle, dlaczego Mnie prześladujesz?" - "Kto jesteś, Panie?" - powiedział. A On: "Jestem
Jezus, którego ty prześladujesz. Wstań i wejdź do miasta,
tam ci powiedzą, co masz czynić" (Dz 9, 3-6).
Po nagłym, niespodziewanym i cudownym nawróceniu
przyjął chrzest i zmienił imię na Paweł.
Po trzech latach pobytu w Damaszku oraz krótkim pobycie w Jerozolimie odbył trzy misyjne podróże: pierwszą w latach 44-49: Cypr-Galacja, razem z Barnabą i Markiem; drugą w latach 50-53: Filippi-Tesaloniki-BereaAchaia-Korynt, razem z Tymoteuszem i Sylasem; trzecią
w latach 53-58: Efez-Macedonia-Korynt-Jerozolima.
Św. Paweł, nazywany Apostołem Narodów, jest autorem
13 listów do gmin chrześcijańskich, włączonych do ksiąg
Nowego Testamentu.

Zginął śmiercią męczeńską przez ścięcie mieczem w roku
67 w Rzymie. W ikonografii św. Paweł przedstawiany
jest w długiej tunice i płaszczu. Jego atrybutami są: baranek, koń, kość słoniowa, miecz.

Po konsultacji z dziekanami Wikariatu IV informuję Cię,
że parafia Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej uzyskała zgodę
na to, aby cały dochód z tegorocznego Apelu Katolickiego mógł być przeznaczony na pokrycie długów parafii
wobec Archidiecezji Chicago.
Dziekani i ja mamy nadzieję, że twoi parafianie hojnie
odpowiedzą na ten apel, który przyniesie korzyść zarówno parafii jak i Archidiecezji Chicago.

Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią niedzielę miesiąca w naszej
parafii po Mszy św. o godz.
10.30 odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i chrzestnych
do chrztu dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się na ten
kurs prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej
półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby uczestniczyć w
kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
dziecka.

Tak jak w każdą niedzielę tak
również i dzisiaj wychodząc z kościoła można nabyć nowy numer
Tygodnika Katolickiego
„Niedziela”. Znajdziemy tam bardzo ciekawe artykuły na temat
życia kościoła w Polsce także naszej Archidiecezji. Czytając ten
tygodnik a także inne publikacje
np.: „Różaniec”, „Anioł stróż”, „Rodzina Radia
Maryja” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do
Boga i Kościoła.
