A battery stores energy within a vehicle. Its purpose is to always supply enough energy to start the engine. One
other thing it needs to accomplish is to store energy being generated by the alternator. Batteries are subjected
to extreme operating conditions in vehicles. Not only do they repeatedly have to go through full charging and
discharging cycles, but also undergoes large fluctuations in temperature. Different vehicles use a wide variety of
batteries.

The battery diagnostic training system provides a safe and efficient
training platform for teaching on the topic of 12-V vehicle batteries.
Various different types of battery require different diagnostic and
maintenance work. Batteries are a key component of the on-board
electrical network, the charging circuitry and the starter system and
many modern vehicles are moving away from conventional lead-acid
accumulators towards more modern AGM (absorbent glass mat)
cells. The training system not only guides students through
maintenance and diagnostic procedures but also allows them to
become familiar with batteries in vehicles in a practical, hands-on
manner.

This training system is unlike an original vehicle battery in that it
works without any acid. It can be used without restriction in
classrooms or training labs and is absolutely safe.
An adjusting mechanism makes it possible to vary the output voltage
from the battery terminals continuously from around 10.2V DC up to
13.8V DC.
All measurements are reproducible and unrestricted at any time,
which is a major advantage compared to original vehicle batteries,
where the charge level is continuously changing.

The battery tester from Bosch BAT131 is, thanks to its intuitive user
interface, very easy to use. With the tester both brand-new and used
batteries can be tested, regardless of whether the battery is installed
in the vehicle or not. Moreover, also the start and the charging
behavior of the battery can be tested. An optional current clamp is
supported by the tester and improves the test results. These can be
printed directly via an integrated printer or visualizes via the USB port
on the PC. A 3 meter long, interchangeable cable provides further
flexibility in the starter / generator system test.
