E-VIGNETTE
USER GUIDE
2015
E-VIGNETTE ROAD USE AUTHORIZATION
The e-vignette user charge system applies to motorcycles, automobiles and their trailers, as well
as cargo vehicles with a maximum permissible gross weight of 3.5 t, campers and buses, and their
towed vehicles. These vehicles are authorized to use Hungarian toll expressway network exclusively
with pre-purchased road use authorizations (purchased before entering the expressways subject to
toll payment), i.e. e-vignettes.
The toll charges depend on the category of the vehicle and the type of the e-vignette. The toll
category depends on the seating capacity and the weight of the vehicle. The toll category is
established on the basis of the official entry that appears in the vehicle registration certificate.
Important changes from previous years have been introduced in the toll decree of 2015 with
respect to the toll expressways, toll-free sections, toll categories, and e-vignette types, and
therefore we request you to study the relevant information in detail. For further details, please visit
the www.toll-charge.hu website, where you find the maps of the toll expressway network that may be
used with an e-vignette. For additional information, please call our Call Center at +36 (36) 587-500.
TOLL-FREE SECTIONS
According to the Toll Decree, the following road sections may be used toll free:
•the M31 motorway,
•the section of the M43 motorway between the Makó junction and the national border,
•the Pécs south-west loop section of the M60 motorway between roads no. 58 and 5826,
•the M85 expressway,
•the M86 expressway,
•the M8 motorway,
•M9 expressway on its section between Main Road 6 and Main Road 51,
•the Kaposvár loop section of M9 expressway (sign of Main Road 61),
•the section of M4 expressway (sign of Main Road 4) between the road leading from Vecsés
to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (section between km section 19+550 and km

◦◦ the section between Main Road 1 and the M5 motorway,
◦◦ the section between M4 expressway (Main Road 4) and M3,
◦◦ Megyeri Bridge (the section between Main Road 11 and Main Road 2).
In addition to the above, the remaining sections of M0, and, in addition to the access and exit
sections of the expressways within the beltway, certain toll-free city bypass roads and expressways
are losing their toll-free status and shall be used exclusively and legitimately with a valid e-vignette
when the new regulations take effect.

VALIDITY PERIODS OF E-VIGNETTES
Weekly authorization: valid on the starting date designated by the purchaser and for 9 consecutive
days (for 10 consecutive calendar days in total until midnight of the 10th day).
Monthly authorization: valid from the starting day designated by the purchaser until midnight of the
day of the same number in the following month. If there is no such day in the month of expiry, then
to midnight of the last day of the month.
Annual authorization: valid from the first day of the relevant year to midnight on 31 January
of the following year (for a total of 13 months if the purchase takes place on 1 January of the
relevant year). The annual vignette permits road use from the time of purchase and is not valid
retroactively.
REGIONAL E-VIGNETTE
In addition to the usual time-based vignettes (weekly/10-day, monthly and annual) with a national
validity, a new, territory-based annual e-vignette type will become available for vehicles in Categories
D1M, D1, D2, U and B2, with which the toll expressway road networks of a county may be used. More
than one regional vignette may be used for the same vehicle. The validity period of this e-vignette
type is the same as the validity period of the annual authorization.
The scope of validity of the regional vignette extends outside the relevant county, up to the
first junction past the county border. You can find detailed information regarding the territorial
validity of the regional vignettes according to junction numbers and road section numbers at the
website www.toll-charge.hu under the menu item “Road network”.
Annual regional vignettes may be purchased for the following counties (which have toll
expressway networks)
Bács-Kiskun County, Baranya County, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Csongrád County, Fejér County,
Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hajdú-Bihar County, Heves County, Komárom-Esztergom County, Pest
County, Somogy County, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, Tolna County, Veszprém County, Zala County
IMPORTANT TO KNOW ABOUT E-VIGNETTES
Tolls must be paid before entering the relevant expressway toll sections. E-vignette purchases
may not be applied with retroactive validity. In the case of a purchase within the validity period the
starting date of validity is the date of purchase.
If you purchase more than one e-vignette at a time, please make sure that you have specified the
dates of your journeys (road use) precisely.
UNAUTHORIZED ROAD USE
Driving without a valid road use authorization on a road section subject to e-vignette toll qualifies as
unauthorized road use, which entails excess charge in each of the toll categories regulated above.
Road use is also considered unauthorized
•if the road use authorization was purchased for the wrong category; i.e. an additional trailer
is towed by a bus with a Category B2 permit (instead of B2+U), or a Category D1 weekly or
monthly authorization was purchased for a car for 8 or more persons instead of Category D2;
•if the registration number and/or the country code indicated on the control slip or in the
confirmation message is not identical with the actual registration number and/or country
code of the vehicle;
•if you have an annual authorization for a given county but use the toll road network of
another county.
In the case of electronic purchase, the confirmation message serves as a proof of purchase.
In order to avoid unauthorized road use, please always check the following on your control slip when
making your purchase: registration number, country code, vehicle category, and validity period.
