Property Description
Tal-Qadi temple is found in the Burmarrad area off the road which from T’Alla w
Ommu leads to Salina Bay. The megalithic ruins discovered in 1916, were found
scattered within an upper and a lower field. An excavation of the remains was
carried out in 1927. A survey of the remains was completed in 1952. The ruins which
are in a very bad state of preservation can only be traced in their general outline. A
central area flanked by two apses to its north and south could be identified. This
suggests a structure of which its main axis runs on an east-west orientation. The
remains of a corridor probably leading to another set of apses of which very scanty
traces remain was also found to the east of the two apses. This suggests that the
temple belongs to the four-apse type, typical of the late Temple Period. No trace of a
façade was found. The site seems to have been frequented during the Tarxien phase,
although it is possible that use of the site was as early as the Gġantija phase. The
presence of some Tarxien Cemetery pottery sherds hint to a later use of the site.
