Lecture and Exercises
Lecturer: dr Katarzyna Ziębakowska-Cecot
The lecture and exercises are planned for 6th (Spring) semester of the
Bachelor studies in Computer Science - 30 hrs + 30 hrs.
Assessment: Attendance and written test (lecture); Attendance and
multimedia project (exercises).
Framework: 1. Introduction to multimedia – basic terms, hypermedia,
multimedia data, multimedia coding. 2. Basics of acoustics – digitalization,
sound edition, popular sound formats. 3. Chosen sound file formats –
MP3, lossy and lossless audio formats. 4. Sound generating, multimedia
sound systems, audio recording. 5. Introduction to optics – human sight,
color spaces. Vector and raster graphics, popular graphic formats, 3D
graphics. 6. Video standards, popular video formats, MPEG video
standards. Video data storage devices: CD, DVD, BD. 7. Streaming
multimedia transmission – protocols, systems. VoIP and other applications
of multimedia on the Internet. Digital video libraries. Multimedia
description and digital rights management – MPEG-7, MPEG-21.
