•Sure, it's Forum Ekonomiczne Młodych Liderów. As far as I know, the organizers arranged
a shuttle bus service to the venue. This would be the most convenient way for you to get
there. Let's just wait for the next bus, I'll tell the driver where you are going.

•There are two ways to say hello. The first one is Dzień Dobry. This is the more official way.

leaving.
•And the official way to say good bye?
•That's Do widzenia, it literally means 'Until we see each other again' ...
•Interesting! And I definitely will need ‘Thank You’ during my stay - it is always more polite if
you can say that in the language of the country you are in ...
•Right. So 'Thanks' that is Dziękuję- and by the way: ‘Sorry’ is Przepraszam.
•And, how can I say: ‘I don’t speak Polish’.
•You can say: Przepraszam, nie mówię po polsku or just ‘I don’t understand’: Nie
rozumiem.
•Dziękuję, Przepraszam, Nie mówię po polsku, Nie rozumiem. The four magic phrases.
And how would I ask, for example, for a beer?
•Well, that is not difficult: Poproszę piwo.
•Piwo is beer, right? I heard this word in other Slavic languages...
•Yes, it is common in many countries. If you want to know the price of something you want
to buy, you just say: Ile kosztuje, for example, piwo - Ile kosztuje piwo. You just add the
name of the thing you want to buy to Ile kosztuje.
•What definitely might be useful during the Economic Forum of Young Leaders is ‘Where are
you from, are you from Poland?’
•Yes, that might be useful. Well, you say Skąd jesteś? – ‘Where are you from?’ and Jesteś
z Polski? – ‘Are you from Poland?’
•Wow, can you repeat that?
•Sure, it's Skąd jesteś? and Jesteś z Polski? ... people may answer Yes to this, meaning
Tak and No meaning Nie ...wait, I see a bus coming...no, it's not going to Nowy Sącz city
center , so it is not your shuttle bus.

•So, you have to say: Gdzie jest and the thing you are looking for, for example Gdzie jest
toaleta? During the conference you might need some questions like, ‘Excuse me, where is
the coffee’ … or the conference hall. So you can ask again: Przepraszam,gdzie jest kawa?,
gdzie jest sala konferencyjna?
•That's quite a mouthful - Gdzie jest sala konferencyjna?
•Good! And what the Polish really appreciate - if you say you like Poland. That's Lubię
Polskę.
•Well, I will use that one for sure if everyone here is as friendly as you!
•Dziękuję, ohh zobacz, twój autob ... Oh sorry, I already started speaking Polish to you,
because you are doing so well. Your shuttle bus arrived!

•How come you know that? - Jak masz na imię - what is your name? well I am Dorota! –
Jestem Dorota.
•Jestem Peter. Those words I learnt earlier from a phrase book ... and the rest from you.
