June is the time of sun, long days and warm
nights. Zegrze Lake and its surroundings
begin to pulsate with life. Active sports lovers
will find there a forest full of trails for pedestrians and cyclists. Families with children
can enjoy playgrounds, rope park or visit
the mini-zoo. It is also a paradise for sailors
and all those who like spending their free
time by the water. Visitors can find excellent beaches, many hotels, restaurants and
cafes there.
This year, the atmosphere will be exceptionally hot – not only because of the
weather, but also because of the European Football Championship Euro 2012.
In Legionowo poviat, we are pleased to
host the football team from Greece. The
accommodation and training centre is located in the modern Municipal Stadium
in Legionowo and in a beautifully situated
Warszawianka Hotel in Jachranka. This is
a unique opportunity to see the Polish rivals
during open trainings. For the hosts – it is
a unique opportunity to present the attractions and touristic values of Zegrze Lake for
the fans from across Europe.

Water and beaches, forests

These and many other attractions can be found in the heart
of Mazovia, close to Warsaw.

For those weary of tumult of great cities
- the silence of the landscape.
6
About 20 km north-east of Warsaw, at Zegrzynskie Lake, by the
Narew and Bug Rivers, you will
find a charming place where
time passes slowly. There you
can take a rest, relax your body,
mind and senses.
Zegrze Lake, with an area of
33 km2, includes a 40 km long
backwater of the Narew and Bug
Rivers. It is an artificial reservoir
connected with the capital by
the picturesque Żerański Canal.
In its vicinity, you will discover
a lot of plants and animal reserves protected by law and centuries-old natural monuments.
There you will find, in addition
to mixed forests – protected wetlands, marshy meadows, oakhornbeam forests, beech woods
as well as fields and meadows.
Stop the time - haven in the heart
of Mazovia.
7
Many places in the area include
bird nesting territories, for some
species they serve as a stopover
during spring and autumn migration. The animals such as terns,
gulls, swans, grebes, ducks and
cormorants have their habitats
by the lake. You can still catch
there bream, tench, roach, carp,
perch, pike perch, pike, catfish,
aspius aspius and crucian.
8
The Bug is one of the most beautiful and interesting rivers in Poland. This is the last wild river in
Europe, with numerous shoals and
islands. Equally interesting is the
Narew – one of the three rivers in
the world, next to the Amazon
and Congo, whose troughs continuously branch and merge, creating unique conditions for canoeing.
If your passion is photography or
painting, here you will find inspiration and exceptional scenes.
Or maybe you will just start the
adventure with art?
9
For those who do not like wasting time
on too long laziness
10
- an active rest with passion.
Sun, wind – it feels that the summer is coming. But in the winter,
you cannot get bored in our region, too!
The area of Zegrze Lake is a paradise for people with passion.
One can enjoy sports such as
sailing, canoeing, windsurfing,
kiting, snowkiting, iceboard,
ice boating, fishing and motorboating. Around Zegrze Lake,
there are 12 tourist cycling routes
with a total length of over 400
km. If you are passionate about
riding, recreational flying, parachuting, and paragliding – visit
us. Or would you prefer extreme
sports? Paintball, rock climbing,
bouldering, racing off-road vehicles and quads – everyone will
find something for themselves.
Organised for several years,
cruises on Zegrze Lake are also
very popular.
Leisure and recreation linked
to practicing horsemanship is
increasingly becoming popular.
In the studs, there are numerous
organised events like chasing
a fox, or sleigh rides.

The Potocki Family Palace in Jablonna
Triumphal Arch in Jablonna Palace’s
park complex
In the area of Zegrze Lake, there
are numerous sacred and secular
architectural monuments. There
are some of the oldest Polish cities – Pultusk and Serock, they
attract lovers of the greatest
military fortifications of the Napoleonic and tsarist times.
At random – some interesting
facts about the history and gems
not only of historic architecture:
– Modlin Fortress is one of the
largest fortresses in Poland and
should be located on the route of
your trip. It is the longest defensive building in Europe.
– the Komornica Culture was
established in the settlement of
Komornica about 5000 years ago.
– In Nieporęt, the weapons of iceage hunters, the 2000-year-old
Vandal shields and Lusatian pottery dating from the 4th century
BC were found.
– In Legionowo, you should visit
the historical museum located in
15
The Radziwiłł Family Palace in Jadwisin
a historic Bratki Villa at 23 Mickiewicza Str., and also a villa
founded in 1927 at 10 Norwida
Str. in Legionowo, now the home
of Municipal Culture Centre.
– Travel back in time to distant
eras? Classical Potocki Palace

in Zegrze or Radziwiłł Palace in
Jadwisin invite us.
– In Pultusk, you can sleep in the
castle dating from the 14th century; it is named Dom Polonii today.

Serock at the junction of the Narew and Bug rivers
Church in Serock
– Also in Pultusk, you can see
the longest (400 metres – isn’t it
a lot ?) market in Europe and visit
many historic churches, including
the collegiate Gothic Basilica of
the Annunciation from the 15th
century and the church of St. Joseph from the 17th century.
– Serock is one of the most beautiful towns located near Warsaw.
It lies on a high cliff coast at the
confluence of the Bug and Narew
Rivers. It was there where the traces of a medieval settlement called
Barbarka were discovered. In the
Model of Barbarka settlement
early 19th century, Serock was
visited by Napoleon Bonaparte. In
the northern part of the town, the
fragments of earth bastions of the
Napoleonic fortress from the years
1807–1811 still remain. While being in the area of a local market,
you cannot miss the late gothic
church from 1520. In the autumn
of 1948, at the invitation of famous
architects – Helena and Szymon
Syrkus, Pablo Picasso, one of the
greatest painters of the twentieth
century, stayed in Serock.
