Most Holy Trinity - St. John Cantius Parish
St. John Cantius Parish T h e C a t h o l i c C o m m u n i t y o f B r i d e s b u r g Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God who is one, but three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes both God's awesome greatness and amazing nearness. It might seem beyond belief, but the God of all creation speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The second reading from Saint Paul's letter to the Romans describes how we are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with our brother, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, in whose sufferings we must also share. In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus speaks with his authority as God and sends us to teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity. BLESSED TRINITY REGIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL Ms. Linda Milewski Principal 215-338-9797 DID ANYTHING SO GREAT EVER HAPPEN BEFORE? From our earliest years we have been told the Holy Trinity, one God in three divine persons, is a mystery, never to be grasped by human minds. For this reason, today's solemnity might seem shrouded in smoke, like Mount Sinai when Moses met God. Yet it would be a mistake to turn from today's liturgy as if it were entirely incomprehensible. The three-personed God might be incomprehensible, but this solemnity assures us this same God is not inaccessible. Moses voices our astonishment in the first reading: Who has ever heard of a god who actually speaks to people? The Church becomes even bolder in the second reading: Paul assures us that we are to call this awesome God "Abba, Father!" (Romans 8:15). We are led by the Spirit, adopted as children, heirs with Christ of all that comes from the Father. Surely if Moses were among us today, he would repeat his astonished cry from the first reading. WHAT ARE WE TO DO? Be careful not to miss the action words, the verbs, in these readings today. Such a feast might imply we ought to stand still or kneel down. But Paul reminds us that we are led by the Spirit. In Matthew's Gospel we are sent. "Go!" Jesus commands us. "Make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). Just remember--we have nothing to fear. The Lord has chosen us to be his own. Jesus has promised to be with us always, until the end of the world! He promised to do this by sending the Holy Spirit. He taught us to call God our Father. While the Trinity is certainly a mystery of our faith, it is clear that Jesus did not intend for it to be a secret. 2 MAY 31, 2015 THE MOST HOLY TRINITY MONDAY – JUNE 1st St. Justin, Martyr 8:00(E) For the people of St. John Cantius TUESDAY – JUNE 2nd St. Marcelinus and Peter, Martyrs 8:00(P) John E. God had a wonderful image in mind when He began to create -- an image that included peace and harmony for every creature. Evil had no place in God's plan. But once these were introduced by disobedience of human beings, God revamped His plan and offered us a second chance. He has made the restoration possible through Jesus, but you and I - and every other person - must cooperate with the Holy Spirit to make it a reality. In our efforts to serve one another and give of ourselves, we build the Body of Christ, live what we experience every Sunday and help "to renew the face of the earth." Our Parish is a sign of God's love, which is shown by our unity, service and love. We pray that we continue to honor God - the Source of all our strength. Next Sunday is the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is on this day that we honor Our Lord in the Most Holy Eucharist. There will be a Eucharistic Procession to three altars around the Church between the 10:00 and 11:30 Masses. The Procession will take place outdoors if weather permits. Make an effort to come and honor Our Lord. The Procession has always been very well attended and having it between the two Masses will afford the opportunity for more parishioners to attend. We ask the members of all the Church Societies to participate and walk behind their respective banner. We also invite our First Holy Communion children to come dressed in their Communion suits and dresses and walk before the Blessed Sacrament in procession. The procession will begin in Church immediately after the 10:00 Mass around 11:00. Processions to honor Our Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary have been long-standing traditions in the Church for many centuries. Walking with the Lord in a procession gives us a real sense of his being with us in our lives and how – in every day – he walks with us. A procession gives us an appreciation of God and how much he loves us. The procession gives us the opportunity to respond to his love. Please join us next week to show gratitude to him. We would like to thank the families who have participated in the Catholic Charities Appeal. The Appeal runs through the end of June so there is still time to support the appeal this year. Extra envelopes are available in the back of Chapel. You can also contribute online at www.catholiccharitiesappeal.org. We are presently working on the air-condition unit in the Chapel. As you may remember, the unit was destroyed by vandals several months ago. We have received payment for a new unit from the insurance company. Hopefully all the work will be done in a couple of weeks and we will have our Sunday Masses there for the summer. May God bless you! The Most Holy Trinity May 31, 2015 Go . . . and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Przywrócił nam możliwość łaski poprzez Jezusa, ale ty i ja - i każda inna osoba - musi współpracować z Duchem Świętym, aby ją urzeczywistnić. Następną niedziele przypada Uroczystość Ciała i Krwi Chrystusa. To w tym dniu czcimy naszego Pana w Najświętszej Eucharystii. Będzie miała miejsce procesja Eucharystyczna do trzech ołtarzy wokół kościoła około godziny 11:00 (pomiędzy Mszami o 10:00 i 11:30). Jeśli dopisze pogoda, procesja będzie na świeżym powietrzu. Dołóżmy starań, aby przyjść i uczestniczyć w tym wzniosłym przedsięwzięciu, uczczenia Naszego Pana. W procesji uczestniczyło zawsze wielu parafian, a dogodna godzina pomiędzy Mszami pozwoli wszystkim chętnym z obu Mszy do udziału w procesji. Prosimy wszystkich członków towarzystw parafialnych do udziału w ustalonym szyku. Dołącz do nas w przyszłym tygodniu, aby pokazać wdzięczność do niego. Niech Bóg Was błogosławi! 6 DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
