many functions. One of its features is a module intended
for data distribution, making use of the Eutelsat satellite system. On one day in 2001, this satellite system malfunctioned. The resulting problems affected several European
exchanges and television stations, causing the only interruption to Warset’s operations in 2001. Even then, however, the IT Department team proved equal to the task,
instantly switching the satellite data distribution system
over to terrestrial distribution. It was this interruption that
caused Warset’s accessibility ratio not to reach 100%. For
a computer system to be reliable, the human factor is very
important. Technology sometimes fails, and in such cases
human beings, via speedy and accurate reactions, can correct the problem. It turned out that in 2001, our employees were able to spot such situations, and before any problem could appear at system level, it was noticed in time and
dealt with appropriately.

client part of Warset, i.e. the one which, on the one hand,
receives investors’ orders; and from which, on the other,
information is received about the market situation. It is
these servers installed in brokerage houses throughout
Poland—in the name of the joint interests of the Exchange
and its intermediaries—which are under the care of the
WSE IT Department.
➣ Servicing Warset is not the only task of the IT
Department. It has also worked for the Exchange as a
company, increasing the accessibility and content of its
databases.
➣ The IT Department’s responsibility is not only to Warset
itself, but also to the Exchange’s internal systems, which
work with Warset. These are not projects visible to
investors; this is typical work, performed for the company
itself to improve the efficiency of its operations. One example of this was the introduction in 2001 of a budgeting and
