THE JOURNEY OF LENT is about being born again by participating
in the death and resurrection of Jesus and about that journey
from Galilee to Jerusalem. The journey of Lent with its climax on
Good Friday and Easter, is about embarking on the way of Jesus
on that path of mortality and transformation that is at the very
center of the Christian life. When you think of it, who of us does
not yearn for this? Who of us does not yearn for a fuller
connection to life? Who does not yearn for an identity that
releases us from anxiety and self-preoccupation? May we this
Lent experience that internal transformation that is at the center
of the Christian life.
WIELKI POST to czas powtórnego, duchowego narodzenia,
poprzez uczestnictwo w męce i zmartwychwstaniu Jezusa. Wielki
Post to czas nawrócenia i pokuty. To czas zastanowienia się nad
swoim życiem w kontekście przykazań Bożych. To czas
przygotowania się do świętowania najważniejszej uroczystości
Chrześcijaństwa — Wielkanocy. To czas dobrych postanowień i
modlitwy połączonej z osobistym wysiłkiem wytrwania w nich. To
wreszcie czas odkrycia na nowo wielkiej miłości Boga, który
„swojego Syna dał, aby każdy kto w niego wierzy, nie zginął, ale
miał życie wieczne”.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT - March 29, 2009
I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts;
I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
– Jeremiah 321:33
Saved by God’s Love. Because the people broke the old
covenant, God promised a new covenant, not in the blood of
oxen and other animals, but in the blood of the Son, Jesus
Christ. This new covenant, foreseen from afar by Jeremiah and
the prophets, was not to be engraved on stone, or written on
paper, but carved on our hearts, so that we might know God
intimately. Not by keeping many laws are we to be saved, but
by the love of God living and real in our hearts through the
sacrifice of Christ.
The second collection this weekend is in support of the Catholic
Relief Services and all remaining envelopes in your bulletin packet
The second collection next week is for Diocesan Obligations
REMEMBERING POPE JOHN PAUL II
The fourth anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul, is
observed on Thursday, April 2nd. Let us pray to God for a speedy
beatification of our beloved Pope.
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on Friday,
April 3rd following the 7 a.m. Mass and conclude at 3 p.m. with
the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction.
Mass in Polish will be celebrated at 7 p.m. followed by the
Stations of the Cross based on the reflections of the late Pope John
Paul II.
PALM SUNDAY
With Palm Sunday, we are entering Holy Week when we reflect
on the passion of Jesus Christ which leads to the Resurrection on
Easter Sunday. On Palm Sunday we commemorate the Lord’s
entrance into Jerusalem. A solemn procession with palms will take
place in the Basilica before the 11 a.m. Mass with the participation
of altar servers and the Sacred Heart Society. During the Mass the
Passion of Jesus Christ will be sung by soloists and choir members.
We invite parishioners who understand the Polish language, to
attend the 11 a.m. liturgy.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK
Anointing will take place at 2:30 p.m. prior to the 3 p.m. Gorzkie
Zale devotions. We encourage all parishioners to bring their family
members who need assistance. The members of the Sacred Heart
Society will be available to assist the elderly and persons in
wheelchairs.

REFLECTIONS
Retreat. I want to thank all the parishioners who took advantage
of our Basilica retreat. Participation in the retreat is rooted in the
psyche of every Catholic person over the centuries. Following that
tradition participation in our retreat was much better than last year
but still there is a need for continued faith formation. I am grateful
to the retreat master, Rev. Chrzysztof Wieliczko, the Holy Rosary
Sodality who offered religious articles for sale and the Milosek
family who dedicated their time during the retreat days. The large
pilgrimage from New Britain of over 100 people intensified the
spirit of prayer and devotion to St. Joseph.
Burning of the Mortgage Dinner. It was a very successful and
well attended event which brought together the majority of those
who played an integral part in the renovation. This family event
was organized by the Parish Council under the leadership of Clem
Starosta who was instrumental in this celebration. A Texas style
delicious dinner was prepared by Henry Kulma assisted by Clem
Starosta, his family, Michael Kane, George Baldowski, and Eugene
Rudnicki. We are grateful to Sylvia Kitka, Joan Comeau and Louie
Sroczynski for making this event memorable. With this celebration
we closed one important chapter in the history of the parish where
the beautifully renovated Basilica stands as a tribute to our
generation for its generosity, caring and above all, faith in God.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
We are pleased to report that the total to date for the Partners in
Charity Collection comes to $12,946.41. An additional $7304 is
needed to reach our quota of $20,250. We extend our gratitude to
those who responded to this charitable and noble cause and we
kindly ask those who have as yet made their donation to do so as
soon as possible so we can reach our goal and close the campaign.
Please drop your envelope in the Sunday collection.
– Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin, Co-Chairpersons
PRO-LIFE
This Sunday, Saint Joseph Basilica and our school will celebrate
life praying for the unborn and respect for human life from the first
moment of conception until natural death. To symbolize the 40
days of prayer during the Lenten season forty mothers with babies
will participate in the celebration. During the liturgical celebration
we will pray with all the mothers to inspire our Basilica family to
make every effort to end abortion in our country.

FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
We want to thank those parishioners who committed themselves
to the mission of Jesus Christ by returning the commitment forms
distributed during the last two weeks. Your commitment to a
particular ministry will be acknowledged. You may still return your
commitment forms during the next two weeks. We will mail forms
to those who did not remember to respond.
Stewardship can never be reduced to habits of volunteerism or
occasional giving because it is rooted in discipleship and should
permeate all aspects of Christian life. It is a firm decision carried
out in action to be the followers of Jesus Christ despite
inconvenience or cost.

FROM THE DIOCESAN DISPATCH
Your Voice is needed to Protect Conscience Rights! The U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services is inviting public
comments on a proposal to rescind an important federal regulation
issued in December. It implements and enforces three federal laws
protecting the conscience rights of health care providers, especially
those at risk of being discriminated against because of their moral
or religious objection to abortion. It is critical that the Catholic
community speak out to protect Catholic doctors, nurses, and
hospitals. To learn more, and to send an email expressing your
support for conscience protection before the April 9 deadline, go to
www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIĄTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU
Liturgia Słowa piątej niedzieli Wielkiego Postu przypomina nam,
że już blisko święta Wielkanocne. Jezus, nawiązując do swojej
śmierci mówi o ziarnie, które wpadłszy w ziemię obumiera i
przynosi plon obfity. Chociaż odczuwa lęk i trwogę, Jezus jest
posłuszny woli Ojca i mówi, że właśnie po to przyszedł na
ziemię, aby pokonać szatana i grzech i otworzyć nam drogę do
nieba. Chrystus zapewnia nas, że gdy zostanie wywyższony nad
ziemię przyciągnie wszystkich do siebie.

wrócił do domu Ojca.

Boga. W piątek, 3 kwietnia, (pierwszy piątek miesiąca) zapraszamy
