Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) and Systems Research Institute of the PAS organize workshop on Industrial Mathematics: Applications of mathematics to real-world problems „Industrial Mathematics encompasses everything from making windows to criminality and quantum computing” John Ockendon Tuesday, 18th November 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The aim of the workshop is to present industrial mathematics to the broader audience. The honourary guest of the event will be Professor John Ockendon (Oxford), who will give a lecture on interplay between business and academia. Other speakers will share their experience in using mathematics for solving real-world problems. The workshop will take place at the Institute of Mathematics PAS on Śniadeckich 8 Street in room 322 on Tuesday, 18th November, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.. Prof. John Richard Ockendon FRS is an applied mathematician noted especially for his contribution to fluid dynamics and novel applications of mathematics to real world problems. He is one of the founders of Maths in Industry Study Groups. At present he is University Lecturer in Applicable Mathematics at Oxford University and Fellow of St Catherine's College and Research Director of the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM).
