For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, and there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the netherworld on earth, for justice is undying. For God formed man to be imperishable; the image of his own nature he made him. But by the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they who belong to his company experience it. Responsorial Psalm Ps 30:2, 4, 5-6, 11, 12, 13 R. (2a) I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. I will extol you, O LORD, for you drew me clear and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. O LORD, you brought me up from the netherworld; you preserved me from among those going down into the pit. R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. Sing praise to the LORD, you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger lasts but a moment; a lifetime, his good will. At nightfall, weeping enters in, but with the dawn, rejoicing. R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper. You changed my mourning into dancing; O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks. R. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me. Reading II 2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15 Brothers and sisters: As you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also. For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Not that others should have relief while you are burdened, but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their needs, so that their abundance may also supply your needs, that there may be equality. As it is written: Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less. (2 Tm 1,10b) Nasz Zbawiciel Jezus Chrystus śmierć zwycięŜył a na Ŝycie rzucił światło przez Ewangelię. Gospel Mk 5:21-43 or 5:21-24, 35b-43 When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he stayed close to the sea. One of the synagogue officials, named Jairus, came forward. Seeing him he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, saying, "My daughter is at the point of death. Please, come lay your hands on her that she may get well and live." He went off with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him. Gdy Go ujrzał, upadł Mu do nóg i prosił usilnie: Moja córeczka dogorywa, przyjdź i połóŜ na nią ręce, aby ocalała i Ŝyła. On jednak rozglądał się, by ujrzeć tę, która to uczyniła. Wtedy kobieta przyszła zalękniona i drŜąca, gdyŜ wiedziała, co się z nią stało, upadła przed Nim i wyznała Mu całą prawdę. On zaś rzekł do niej: Córko, twoja wiara cię ocaliła, idź w pokoju i bądź uzdrowiona ze swej dolegliwości! Gdy On jeszcze mówił, przyszli ludzie od przełoŜonego synagogi i donieśli: Twoja córka umarła, czemu jeszcze trudzisz Nauczyciela? Wobec zamieszania, płaczu i głośnego zawodzenia, wszedł i rzekł do nich: Czemu robicie zgiełk i płaczecie? Dziecko nie umarło, tylko śpi. I wyśmiewali Go. Dziewczynka natychmiast wstała i chodziła, miała bowiem dwanaście lat. There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years. She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors and had spent all that she had. Yet she was not helped but only grew worse. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured." Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who has touched my clothes?" But his disciples said to Jesus, "You see how the crowd is pressing upon you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'" And he looked around to see who had done it. The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction." While he was still speaking, people from the synagogue official's house arrived and said, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the teacher any longer?" Disregarding the message that was reported, Jesus said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid; just have faith." He did not allow anyone to accompany him inside except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they arrived at the house of the synagogue official, he caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. So he went in and said to them, "Why this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." And they ridiculed him. Then he put them all out. He took along the child's father and mother and those who were with him and entered the room where the child was. He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!" The girl, a child of twelve, arose immediately and walked around. At that they were utterly astounded. He gave strict orders that no one should know this and said that she should be given something to eat. Takie wskrzeszenie do nowego Ŝycia wymaga naszej wiary. Evening with Polish Film On Monday, June 29, at 7:00 P.M, in our parish hall (downstairs) we will be watching a movie titled Quo Vadis It is a Polish movie , with English subtitles, based on Henryk Sienkiewicz’s novel POLISH SAINTS Ale wiara na miarę zmartwychwstania musi być bezwarunkowa, to znaczy, nie moŜe ustać nawet wtedy, gdy dziecko nie zmartwychwstanie natychmiast. Autentyczna wiara w zmartwychwstanie daje gwarancje, Ŝe powstanie z martwych nastąpi po Sądzie Ostatecznym. To powinno wystarczyć, by na razie nie utracić nadziei. Wybór trzeba pozostawić Bogu, nie stawiając Mu Ŝadnych warunków. On zobaczy, co zrobić, a my nie bójmy się, tylko wierzmy. Ks. Mariusz Pohl :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Fr. Alojzy Liguda KALENDARIUM POLONIJNE IMIENINY/ NAME DAY: June 28: Amos, Ireneusz, Józef, Leon, Paweł, Raissa, Zbrosław ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: June 24, 1838- Birth of Polish painter Jan Matejko Fr. Aloysius Liguda was born in 1898 near Opole. He was ordained in 1927. In 1930 he entered the University of Poznan and earned a Master's Degree in Polish Philology. He wrote three books and continued to teach then was appointed rector of the SVD community in Gorna Grupa. When the Nazis arrived in 1939, the house was turned into an interment camp for priests and seminarians. On February 5, 1940 the internees were taken to a camp in Gdansk, then to Dachau. As a prisoner who spoke German, Fr. Liguda became the interpreter for the other internees, saving them from many embarrassments. On one occasion he wrote: "People may treat me as something base, but cannot make me base, Dachau can rob me of all my rights and titles; the privilege of being a son of God no one can take from me." In 1942, when Fr. Liguda had grown weak in Dachau, one day guards transported him with the invalids from his block to the water reservoir near the camp where the prisoners were all drowned. He had said as he left his cell: "If I Fr. Aloysius lose my life, you will know full Liguda well that they have murdered a healthy man." The official report was that he and the other prisoners had died, of pneumonia. Fr. Alojzy Liguda, an earnest devotee of the Immaculate Conception died on the night of December 8th, 1942, the very feast of Our Lady. His mother received the following notification of his death: „Your son, Alojzy Liguda, born 23rd January, 1898, died of tuberculosis in our hospital on December 8th, 1942.” They lied to his old mother since the cause of her son’s death was not a disease but human cruelty. Pope John Paul II beatified him on 13 June 1999 with a group of the 108 Martyrs of World War Two known also as 108 Blessed Polish Martyrs. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Gallery Almost everyone in Poland is, in a sense, brought up on Matejko’s large historical paintings. Disseminated in thousands of reproductions, they have, for generations, helped the young and some not so young visualize salient events in the history of the nation. To understand the genesis of such historical painting it should be recalled that at the time in the 19th century when Matejko created these canvases, the Polish lands were partitioned between Russia, Prussia, which morphed into Germany, and Austria. In the lands occupied by Russia and Germany, strenuous efforts were made by the occupying powers to stamp out Polishness. The use of the Polish language was forbidden in schools. Also to hinder transmission of knowledge about the country's proud history, censorship existed that effectively banned publication of textbooks and the like that dealt with the subject. In these circumstances, historical paintings which could be used as a way of transmitting such knowledge assumed an importance and relevance otherwise seldom accorded to them. Matejko, a fervent Polish patriot, devoted much of his talent to this cause. Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski: Konno na jarmark. circa 1885. Poles had between 3,000-4,000 men, mostly infantry and pancerni cavalry. Germans had mostly heavy cavalry forces. In the first phase elements of the Polish cavalry attacked lead formations of German cavalry, the Germans slowly taking the advantage. This forced the Poles to retreat closer to a little town called Cedynia. The actual 'retreat', wasn't at all surprising, it was a calculated move. The Polish cavalry lead the charging German forces into a trap, under the command of the brother of Mieszko Czcibor. The German column was then attacked from almost all sides. The Germans were forced to retreat in the only direction they could - right into a swamp. Here they were cornered and cut to pieces. German losses were significant. Thietmar claims that most of the best knights were killed, apart from Hodo and Zygrfyd. The success of this battle allowed the continued maintaining of Polish control of eastern Pomerania. Otto I after hearing of the unprovoked attack on the Poles seriously reprimanded Hodo. Otto II however had stronger claims on Poland; in 979 another German invasion of Poland was organized. Again the Germans were defeated. Poles again drive out the Germans, taking a number of missionary fortresses and destroying Hamburg. Most European countries which pride themselves on being independent nations and which value their past, encourage the development and the use of distinctive symbols of sovereignity, such as the national coat of arms, the national flag and the national anthem. Over time, these symbols become an important element in bringing each nation together, mainly through the recognition of the shared heritage. In the case of Poland, the White Eagle has been the most important national symbol since the 13th century. In 1995 Poles celebrated the 700th anniversary of the White Eagle as the coat of arms of the Polish State. These arms which were used in the past as a personal and familial device of the Piast dynasty and its dukedoms were raised to the rank of the symbol of the united Kingdom of Poland by Przemysł II Duke of Greater Poland. Archaeologists believe that in the Early Middle Ages there was a great trade emporium, spreading along the shore for four kilometers and rivaling in importance Birka and Hedeby. Paderewski's efforts, with support from the American government and American people, helped Poland regain her freedom after World War I. He was also one of the signers of the Paris Peace Treaty which was responsible for reestablishing the proper boundaries between Poland and her neighbors. Paderewski became the chief framer of the Polish Constitution of 1919 and served as Poland's delegate to the League of Nations in Geneva. This is dubious, as "no trace has been found there of its artificial harbor for 360 warships, or of a citadel, unless the nearby hill of Silberberg is accepted as the site of such; but there were Norsemen there around the year 1000, and the archaeological finds reveal a mixed population of Vikings and Slavs". Madrid, Spain, Jun 23, 2009 / 10:23 pm (CNA).- The Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, celebrated Mass this weekend at the Hill of Angels in Getafe, where he renewed the consecration of Spain to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was first done 90 years ago. The newspaper ABC reported that during his homily before some 20,000 faithful, the cardinal warned that “the way of de-Christianization does not lead to any future of salvation and true happiness for man.” For this reason, he added, W roku bieŜącym Litwa obchodzi swoje tysiąclecie. Do udziału w niej zaproszono przedstawicieli czterdziestu dziewięciu państw oraz trzydzieści organizacji pozarządowych. Przedmiotem rozmów będzie restytucja mienia Ŝydowskiego: komunalnego, religijnego oraz prywatnego, w tym takŜe dzieł sztuki oraz dóbr kultury, do czego przedstawiciele społeczności Ŝydowskiej będą starali się nakłonić przede wszystkim państwa Europy Środkowowschodniej. this reason, he said, “the renewed consecration of Spain to the Sacred Heart will not bring forth abundant fruit of life and of witness of Christian love without holy priests.” “Spain, the Spain of today, needs many holy priests according to the heart of Christ!” he exclaimed. Zdaniem Blacka, do 2008 r. zwrócono łącznie 16 proc. Pagans charge Catholic club with discrimination for refusing to host ‘Witches’ Ball’ Manchester, United Kingdom, Jun 19, 2009 / 04:06 am (CNA).- A Pagan group in Britain has accused a Catholic social club of religious discrimination for refusing to host a Pagan group’s Annual Witches’ Ball on the grounds it was ‘not compatible with the Catholic ethos.’ Sandra Davis, 61, a High Priestess of the Pagan group, initially had reserved Our Lady’s Social Club in Stockport, Manchester for her group’s Annual Witches Ball. When she called to make payment arrangements, she was told the event could not be held there and must find another venue. She told the Daily Telegraph she was “appalled” and said her congregation was “shocked” that there can be such “religious discrimination.” "We're normal people who follow an earth-based religion and want to enjoy ourselves. "We thought we were bridging the gap with other religions but misconceptions still exist, like we sacrifice animals. "Does the church check everyone's beliefs before allowing them in the club?” she asked. Fr. John Joyce from the Diocese of Shrewsbury explained to the Daily Telegraph why the event could not proceed at the Catholic club. "Parish centers under our auspices let their premises on the understanding users and their organizations are compatible with the ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church," he said. "In this instance, we aren't satisfied such requirements are met." The Christian Institute worries that Britain’s Equality Anna Wiejak Act of 2006 could provide a basis for possible legal action. Fraser Catholic News Service OCONGATE, Peru (CNS) -- At the end of an all-night procession, several thousand pilgrims in colorful garb gathered on a hilltop in this remote corner of the Andes, waiting for dawn. As the sky brightened behind an eastern mountain peak and light swept along the ridge, a tall young man sounded a long, plaintive note on a conch horn. The sun burst over the Andes and Quechua-language prayers floated over the frosty fields. Melodies rose from wooden flutes and drums played by musicians with weathered faces. The assembly broke into smaller groups, dancing down the mountain in colorful columns that snaked and twined, celebrating the new day and the end of a pilgrimage that drew some 60,000 people. Od dziś w Poznaniu trwają główne uroczystości związane z upamiętnieniem 53 rocznicy wydarzeń z 28 czerwca 1956 r. Przy Bramie Głównej zakładów Cegielskiego uczczono Ofiary Poznańskiego Czerwca '56. W trakcie uroczystości przewodniczący zakładowej Solidarności, Tadeusz Pytlak nawiązał do obecnej, trudnej sytuacji firmy wywołanej mniejszymi niŜ przed rokiem zamówieniami na produkcję silników okrętowych. At the bottom of the hill, Jesuit Father Luis Herrera waited in a rustic adobe chapel, where a solemn procession arrived, carrying images of Jesus and Mary. Father Herrera prayed with the group, bringing the nearly weeklong pilgrimage to a close. If God wills it, he said, they will gather there again next year. The festival of the Lord of Qoyllur Rit'i, marking Christ's appearance to a young shepherd boy and coinciding with the full moon nearest to the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, dates to the 1780s, though its roots probably go back further. Like many religious traditions, it has evolved over the centuries, but it is now threatened by tourism, global warming and simple economics. "We do this out of faith," said Adolfo Quispe, 23, leader of a group of 18 young dancers who set out from their hometown of Uczestnik wydarzeń Czerwca '56, Jan Wieczorek przyznał, Ŝe nadal czeka na odpowiednie uhonorowanie ofiar i ukaranie sprawców wydarzeń sprzed pół wieku. My, Cegielszczacy, mamy moralne prawo mówić o tej tragedii. Jako pierwsi władzy ludowej powiedzieliśmy: nie. Upomnieliśmy się o Boga, wolność, prawo i chleb" - zaznaczył Wieczorek. The Jesuit priests who work in the highlands around Cuzco and have celebrated liturgies in the Qoyllur Rit'i sanctuary for decades say the modern world is infringing on local traditions. 13-letni Romek Strzałkowski był najmłodszą ofiarą poznańskich wydarzeń czerwcowych; został zastrzelony przez funkcjonariuszy Urzędu Bezpieczeństwa przed gmachem WUBP. 15-letni Peter Mansfeld był bohaterem rewolucji węgierskiej w 1956 r. "It is no longer a celebration of llama and alpaca herders." Father Antonio Sanchez-Guardamino, a Jesuit from Spain's Basque region and pastor in the town of Ocongate, recalled that in the early 28 czerwca 1956 r. poznańscy robotnicy Zakładów im. The dancers from Chincheros are among those who remain faithful even though they live in town. For three days, they stop only to eat and to sleep for an hour or two before the trio of musicians rouses them with a melody. They dance in the sanctuary before an image of Jesus on a rock that marks the spot where Christ appeared, then dance uphill to a small chapel dedicated to Mary and down toward the sanctuary again in a ring of color and melody. The sanctuary bell tolls several times a day, and more than 2,000 pilgrims jam into the church, standing elbow to elbow, for a liturgy in Spanish and Quechua. At this altitude, nighttime temperatures drop below zero, but the sanctuary is warmed by body heat and the banks of candles lit by pilgrims. There are no shelters for sleeping, so a few pilgrims pitch tents, while many more huddle under wool blankets and sheets of blue plastic sold by enterprising vendors.
