Neets - no education, no employment, no training

The problem of the so-called Neets” - that is the young people with no education, no employment, no training,
has become very serious as the figures published by the Department for Education revealed. So far the leaving
age for all young people in England has been 16, however, from September 2013, all 17-year-olds in England
will have to stay in education, training or an apprenticeship scheme. And from September 2015 this becomes
compulsory for all 18-year-olds. According to the spokesman for the Department for Education, this is done to
narrow the gap between the richest and poorest and give all young people, regardless of their background, the
best opportunities to progress their careers.
However, it has been suggested by a committee of MPs who want to copy a model from Holland that the Neets
should not receive state benefits if they are not working, training or in education. This project is aimed at
reducing the number of young people staying at home and doing nothing. Looking at the results of such a
policy in Holland, where the numbers of young people without jobs are quite low, they are sure that generous
benefits systems should be offered to these young people who are willing to start education, training or work.
Being described as the Neets gives a young person a kind of a stigma which does not help him or her to progress
and get a better life. Unfortunately it has been stated that the previous government did very little to improve the
situation of those young people. What is more, many colleges have suffered damaging cuts in expenses, the
costs of education have increased which prevented many young people who wanted to study, from getting into a
course. All of this makes it very difficult for the young people to get a job as without the necessary skills they
are left with no chance to improve their situation.

Test 3 ---
Tekst do słuchania ze zrozumieniem
Designers say –‘’plus-size models are a joke’’.
The problem of skinny models is not a new one and it has attracted public
attention for quite a long time. Because of many cases when very thin models
collapsed on the catwalk, new regulations have been introduced , which should
eliminate the situation when underweight models fainted right in the middle of a
fashion show. What is more, some female magazines have initiated a campaign
whose aim is to popularize the image of a normal-size model that would
represent a majority of average-built women.
There has been a general demand for the models with slightly more rounded
figures. As a result, in June 2009, the editor of the British Vogue, Alexandra
Shulman, wrote a letter to designers asking them to adjust their sizing because
the magazine was photoshopping the models to make them look bigger.
Another magazine, Brigitte, showed a 12-size model with a slightly bigger
stomach which resulted in very positive comments from the public. However,
what magazine editors have noticed that the world of fashion needs to change
because the women in the street do not look like the catwalk models, is not
understandable for fashion designers. Julien Macdonald, a very controversial
designer made it very clear what he thinks about the proposal and his comments
were not positive. According to him the slightly bigger models, that is from the
size 12 to 16, have no place on the catwalk. They are simply not made to be
models. His cruel statement that they are just a joke has made him commonly
criticized, especially at present when full-figured models are in high demand.
Fortunately, for the majority of average women, who have a full-size figure,
this healthy tendency of accepting women with rounder shapes, is growing.
Even the television responds to the general demand for bigger models and is
full of shows demonstrating the women who are aware of their attractive and
healthy bodies. As Crystal Renn, the size 16 supermodel said, the fashion
world needs to change since the women on the street don’t look like thin
models. There is a general satisfaction that finally the people responsible for
creating fashion have realized that most women nowadays wear sizes 14 and 16.
This positive trend has been reflected by a wider range of clothes proposals
available in shops for the clients with fuller figures.
