Thank you to all who attended our Baroque concert last
Sunday. It was a great night of wonderful, inspiring music,
shared among approximately 200 parishioners and friends.

CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES
Today at the 10:45 Mass, the students in our 8th grade
religious program will formally express their desire to be
considered “candidates” for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We ask your prayers for them as they enter into this time of
preparation.
CONCERT AND ART EXHIBIT (“Varying Paths of
Faith”)
Next Sunday, November 16th, at 4:00PM, prior to the
opening of the art exhibit, there will be a guitar concert performed by Mexican guitar maestro Robert Sanchez. The
concert will be about 45 minutes and take place in the theater room of St. Joseph’s Center. Mr. Sanchez will be performing some of the most exciting pieces from the guitar
music by Spanish composers Joaquin Rodrigo, Turina, as
well as music from the Argentine composer Astor Piazzola.
Refreshments will be served during the art show. Please
join us.
ST ROSE OF LIMA PILGRIMAGE
Our parish is organizing a pilgrimage to Peru for next
summer in honor of our Patroness St. Rose of Lima. On Sunday, November 23rd, at 4:00PM, we will have a meeting
held at St Joseph’s Center for those interested in the trip.
The guest presenter will be speaking in English, Spanish &
Polish. Please pick up a flyer at the door for more information.

HOLY PLACES, HOLY LIVES
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Roman Catholics in the United States at the beginning
of the twenty-first century have had more than their share
of experiences of unholy things going on in holy places.
And, in light of the extreme reaction that Jesus has to this
phenomenon at the Temple in today’s Gospel, it may
seem unusual to be celebrating what, on the surface,
seems to be a feast of a building: the pope’s cathedral
church for his role as the bishop of Rome, the cathedral of
St. John (the Baptist) Lateran. Throughout time, human
beings have come to discern, through the Spirit, various
physical locations for the work and activity of God:
creation, the Ark of the Covenant, the Jerusalem temples,
the womb of a Galilean girl, a cross and tomb, an upper
room. All these physical places have the potential to be
sources of holy things, of God’s ongoing grace in the
world. As we hear in today’s Gospel, we must always
look to Christ, the one, eternal, always-holy dwelling
place of God. Then we who are baptized must pray that
we always be guided to lead holy lives in holy places, in
all places, at all times.
What is the name of the pope’s cathedral? If you said
the Vatican, or St. Peter’s, you were off by a few miles,
since the answer is the Basilica of St. John, the Lateran,
the “Mother Church” of all the churches of the world and
the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. It takes its name
from the Lateran family, the Trumps of their day, who
somehow ran afoul of the Emperor Nero. He seized all
their property, including their vast Roman palace and
estate. We don’t know how Plautius displeased Nero so
badly, but eventually all the Lateran property came to
Constantine, the first Christian emperor, through his wife,
Fausta. Early in the fourth century, when Christianity was
at last legalized, Constantine gave the property to the
church. Soon the great meeting halls were expanded and
adapted.
Over the centuries, the church building has been
sacked by armies, ruined by fire, torn down, and rebuilt.
The oldest and most unchanged part of the Lateran is a
vast, separate baptistery with steps leading down to a
huge green basalt pool. Imagine what a triumphal moment
the dedication of this public church building was for a
community that had worshiped in secret for so long!
Today’s feast is really about the tradition of consecrating
space for worship, and so by extension, a feast for your
parish church building and, given the beautiful second
reading, for its baptistery as well.

Święto rocznicy poświęcenia Bazyliki Laterańskiej

Jesteście uprawną rolą Bożą i Bożą budowlą. Według
danej mi łaski Bożej, jako roztropny budowniczy,
położyłem fundament, ktoś inny zaś wznosi budynek.
Niech każdy jednak baczy na to, jak buduje. Fundamentu
bowiem nikt nie może położyć innego, jak ten, który jest
położony, a którym jest Jezus Chrystus. Czyż nie wiecie,
żeście świątynią Boga i że Duch Boży mieszka w was?
Jeżeli ktoś zniszczy świątynię Boga, tego zniszczy Bóg.
Świątynia Boga jest świętą, a wy nią jesteście.

Zbliżała się pora Paschy żydowskiej i Jezus udał się do
Jerozolimy. W świątyni napotkał siedzących za stołami
bankierów oraz tych, którzy sprzedawali woły, baranki i
gołębie. Wówczas sporządziwszy sobie bicz ze sznurków,
powypędzał wszystkich ze świątyni, także baranki i woły,
porozrzucał monety bankierów, a stoły powywracał. Do
tych zaś, którzy sprzedawali gołębie, rzekł: Weźcie to
stąd, a z domu mego Ojca nie róbcie targowiska!
Uczniowie Jego przypomnieli sobie, że napisano:
Gorliwość o dom Twój pochłonie Mnie. W odpowiedzi zaś
na to Żydzi rzekli do Niego: Jakim znakiem wykażesz się
wobec nas, skoro takie rzeczy czynisz? Jezus dał im taką
odpowiedź: Zburzcie tę świątynię, a Ja w trzech dniach
wzniosę ją na nowo. Powiedzieli do Niego Żydzi:
Czterdzieści sześć lat budowano tę świątynię, a Ty ją
wzniesiesz w przeciągu trzech dni? On zaś mówił o
świątyni swego ciała. Gdy więc zmartwychwstał,
przypomnieli sobie uczniowie Jego, że to powiedział, i
uwierzyli Pismu i słowu, które wyrzekł Jezus.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Bazylikę św. Jana, wzniesioną przez cesarza
Konstantyna Wielkiego na wzgórzu laterańskim
w Rzymie, uznano za „matkę i głowę wszystkich
kościołów Miasta i Świata”. Rocznicę jej poświęcenia
obchodzimy na znak jedności ze Stolicą Piotrową.
Dzisiejsze święto przypomina nam, że tym, który uświęca
każdą świątynię, jest Chrystus. On sam, obecny
w każdym tabernakulum na całym świecie, jest
prawdziwą świątynią Boga. Także my, odrodzeni przez
chrzest i karmiący się Ciałem Chrystusa, jesteśmy Bożą
świątynią.

CONCIERTO Y EXHIBICIÓN DE ARTE ("Variación en
caminos de la fe")
El próximo domingo, 16 de noviembre a las 4:00 de la tarde,
antes de la apertura de la exposición de arte, habrá un concierto
de guitarra realizado por el maestro de la guitarra mexicana
Roberto Sánchez. El concierto será en la sala de teatro del
Centro de San José. El Sr. Sánchez presentará algunas de las
piezas más interesantes de la música de la guitarra de
compositores españoles Joaquín Rodrigo, Turina, así como la
música del compositor argentino Astor Piazzola. Se servirán
refrescos durante la exposición de arte. Por favor, únase a
nosotros.
PERENIGRACIÓN A PERU
Nuestra parroquia está organizando una peregrinación a
Peru en honor a nuestra patrona St. Rosa De Lima. Este viaje
será para el verano que viene. Habra una reunión en la rectoria
el domingo, noviembre 23, a las 4:00pm para esos
enteresados en el viaje. Información sobre el viaje se dará
en inglés, espaňol, y polaco.
GUARDEN LA FECHA: CRUZ ROJA AMERICANA
Preparar, Responder, Recuperar de Un Desastre. Presentación
en espaǹol y inglés, sábado, noviembre 29, 6:00PM.
Hoy celebramos la memoria de la Iglesia madre de la
cristiandad. Por extraña coincidencia, no está en Jerusalén
donde nació la Iglesia, tampoco es la Basílica de San
Pedro en el Vaticano, donde está el sepulcro (o la tumba)
de san Pedro. Esta iglesia es la Basílica que está dedicada
a la memoria del Divino Salvador, a san Juan Bautista y a
san Juan Evangelista. Fue la primera basílica consagrada
en el año 324 al culto cristiano en Roma.
De allí ha tenido una larga trayectoria, y aunque es la
catedral del obispo de Roma, el Papa se trasladó al
Vaticano en 1377, luego de que el papado estuvo durante
un período de 100 años en Francia.
Al recordar la consagración de la Basílica de Letrán no
debemos olvidar lo que dice san Pablo: “Cada uno de
nosotros somos un templo del Espíritu Santo” (1
Corintios 6:19). En un sueño, Inocencio III vio que Letrán
estaba por caerse, pero san Francisco pudo sostenerla en
pie. Ojalá que cada vez que nosotros estemos por caer,
llegue alguien que nos pueda sostener como templos de
Dios.
