November 1, 2015, All Saints Memories of the Future The Future is as Bright as the Promises of God St. John Brebeuf Parish 8307 N. Harlem Ave., Niles, IL 60714 847-966-8145 www.sjbrebeuf.org Page 1 Page 2 All Saints November 1, 2015 Dear Parishioners, The Feast of All Saints and All Souls encourages us on the Way! The Way to Christ! The saints and our deceased loved ones are real, very ordinary people, who through the grace of God tried to be faithful to their calling. Did they fail at times, sure, but they, like us all, tried to stay on the course. If they did hurt us or others, we can still seek forgiveness and healing from God and ask God to help us forgive them. The two feast days remind us of the importance of community – community here on earth and the community that lives forever! It's never too late to reconcile ourselves with God and our deceased loved ones. The gospel story of the rich young man reminds us what we must do to “win” eternal life. Remember? The rich young man standing before Jesus tells our dear Lord: “I have given up almost everything for God. What more must I do?” Jesus' answer is simple and direct: “Give up the rest! You have given up almost everything, and that is good. 80% is good! But now, to move beyond your present sadness to a deeper joy, you have to give up everything! Yes, half measures and three-quarter measures no longer do it for you; you have to give it all up!” And that is the invitation to everyone who, while already generous and good, is not yet a full saint. What is still lacking in the lives of most mature adults? What takes someone across the threshold of goodness to the household of greatness? Like the rich young man, I think we all feel like walking away from the full invitation. We all are tempted to hold back something, still holding on to some of our own riches which may not be money but something else that we hold more dearly, perhaps generosity, generativity and mercy? Yes, we need grace and community to accept God’s invitation to be a saint! We become saints only with the support of others. How many husbands and wives point to the other who helped them to grow? How many credit their parents, teachers or coaches? How many are grateful for the co-worker or friend who pushed them to greatness? Perhaps you recall how your family and friends helped you to say no to the compensations that we can all fall into – money, power trips, sexual exploits, excessive work, alcohol or over indulging in whatever. Who are the ones who helped you overcome some bad habits? Who have you helped by your love and mercy to avoid slipping into mediocrity? Together, together, together!!!! Only in community! Please celebrate the blessing of this Community of Faith at next Saturday's Gala! Please join us as we honor Jan and Deacon Larry Skaja! Thank you for your ongoing support of the parish! See our website www.sjbebreuf.org for more details on how you can help people on the WAY! The Way to Christ! Father Mike Meany READINGS FOR NOVEMBER 15 First Reading — Those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever (Daniel 12:1-3). Psalm — You are my inheritance, O Lord! (Psalm 16). Second Reading — Where there is forgiveness, there is no longer offering for sin (Hebrews 10:11-14, 18). Gospel — Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away (Mark 13:2432). PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer went about with Him." Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." We have the "Word of Eternal Life" right here with us day and night in our Adoration Chapel. Do you have something you want to ask Him? There are several hours needing adorers. Please pick one for your personal hour with Him. "When we elect our lawmakers in America, we influence the moral character of this nation for better or for worse. When our laws permit violence against little babies, incidents like the Columbine High School shootings are the logical outcome." This proves what Mother Teresa said, that if there is no respect for the child in the womb, there will be no respect for any life. Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” BECAUSE OF YOU…… Our Sack Dinner Ministry has been a joy filled experience for all the parishioners who have participated. Whether you have handed out the bags, filled sacks and delivered them to Church, collected sacks, or distributed them to the less fortunate, you know that the face of the Lord is seen in those whose lives you have helped. A big Thank You and God Bless You to all who cared about the less fortunate and participated in this ministry. Over 4000 sack dinners were distributed to needy locations and individuals over the eight months. Some of these locations include St. Matthias, Madonna House, Grace House, St. Leonard, St. Malachy, Marillac House, Deborah’s Place, St. Martin de Porres, The Sisters of Charity, the Franciscan Homeless Shelter, the homeless in the park, and many families. We will start again in March. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU. Uncle Pete’s Ministry November 1, 2015, All Saints A Few Words About Wills More than a mere legal document that will be accepted in a court of human law, a well-prepared will is a statement of faith, hope and love. Drodze do Chrystusa! Święci i nasi bliscy zmarli istnieją naprawdę. Proszę świętować to błogosławieństwo bycia we wspólnocie wiary w nadchodzącej sobotniej Gali! Dołącz do nas, aby wspólnie uczcić Jan i diakona Larry Skaja! Drodze do Chrystusa! Ks.
