An EEA doctor would be eligible for direct entry onto the Specialist Register if they
hold a specialist qualification that is acceptable for mutual recognition in the UK.
For the purposes of automatic mutual recognition in Europe a specialist qualification
must be listed for both the home and the host state in the relevant table of Annex V
of Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications. In addition
to this, the specialty must have a corresponding entry for the United Kingdom.
Further information can be found on our website.

If the doctor doesn't hold an acceptable qualification, they will be required to apply for
a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). They involves
demonstrating that there specialty training and experience meets the requirements of
the relevant UK curriculum. Further information about the process can be found in
the application guidance.

Wyjazdy lekarzy w trakcie specjalizacji w Polsce
do pracy w Wielkiej Brytanii
Skrótowa informacja General Medical Council, która odnosi się do lekarzy w trakcie
robienia specjalizacji w Polsce i chcących je kontynuować w Wielkiej Brytanii.
For doctors who are partially trained in an EU country, whether they can have the
overseas portion of their training approved, and whether they can continue their
training from where they left off in Poland will need to be decided upon by the
Medical Royal Colleges, deaneries and faculties relevant to the specialty, who should
be contacted directly in advance.
The documents required for doctors who commenced their training before and after
the relevant date of 1 May 2004 are listed on the GMC website. You can find this
information along with other information about the requirements for Polish doctors by
following the link below:

Certificates of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) and Certificates of
General Practitioner Registration (CEGPR) relate to those doctors not eligible for
direct entry to the Specialist or GP registers.
Again, it is difficult to generalise and each application submitted to the GMC is
regarded as unique and individual. The best advice is for each doctor to contact
GMC directly for personal expert advice.
