Leonardo da Vinci is considered to have been one of the greatest painters in the history of art and probably the most multi-talented person who ever lived. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor and writer. Born in 1542 in Venice, Italy, Leonardo showed an early talent for drawing and he began an apprenticeship with the artist Verrocchio at the age of fourteen. Under Verrocchio he learned a wide range of skills, including metalworking, working with leather and wood, as well as drawing and sculpting. Within six years, he had qualified as a master artist and then he set up his own workshop. Leonardo later worked in Rome and then finally in France at the home given to him by the French King, Francis I. His most famous paintings include The Last Supper and probably the most famous picture in the world, the Mona Lisa. Relatively few of his paintings still exist today because Leonardo experimented with new techniques and as a result some of the paintings did not survive. Leonardo wanted to discover all he could about nature, the working of the human body and the world around him. His observations and inventions were recorded in his notebooks, including over 13,000 pages of notes, drawings, scientific diagrams and thoughts about everything from art to zoology. Leonardo’s inventions included designs for an early version of a helicopter (four hundred years before the Wright brothers first flew a plane), concentrated solar power and a calculator. He also made important discoveries in anatomy and engineering and his drawings of the heart, as well as blood circulation systems and other bone and muscle structures are among the earliest on human record. Leonardo was creative, enthusiastic and determined to understand everything. Many of his inventions and ideas are striking because they seem so modern and his art is timeless. 1. It was obvious from an early age that Leonardo was good at drawing. _____ 2. Leonardo qualified as a master artist under Verrocchio fourteen years after starting his training. _____ 3. The French king offered Leonardo a home in France. _____ 4. Many of Leonardo’s paintings have survived to the present day. _____ 5. Leonardo wrote down his ideas and inventions in a collection of notebooks. _____ 6. Leonardo's ideas seem up-to-date. _____ 2 z 10 WOJEWÓDZKIE KONKURSY PRZEDMIOTOWE 2014/2015 – GIMNAZJUM STOPIEŃ REJONOWY Zadanie 2. (7 p.) Przeczytaj tekst. Dobierz właściwy nagłówek (A–H) do każdego fragmentu tekstu. Wpisz odpowiednią literę w miejsca 1–7. Uwaga: jeden nagłówek został podany dodatkowo i nie pasuje do żadnego fragmentu tekstu. A Buy local products B Produce less rubbish C Avoid flying D Take part in local cultural events E Share your travel books F Find a green travel agent G Drive less H Save energy About 700 million people worldwide travel every year, which is harmful for the environment. There’s a lot you can do to travel responsibly and reduce the environmental effects of travelling. 1 ___ The public transport system in Britain is excellent. Try to include car-free days into your holiday. Remember that cycling is a great environmentally friendly way to get around. And why not check if the place you want to visit is within walking distance? Sightseeing on foot will keep you fit! 2 ___ Hotels use large amounts of electricity to light rooms, do the laundry and heat water. In your accommodation, turn off the lights and take short showers instead of baths. Simple things like using your towels more than once or turning off the air-conditioning can make a big difference. 3 ___ Book flights with airlines that recycle packages left after serving food to passengers. In hotel rooms, reuse the plastic cups, or bring your own reusable cups. And do not take plastic bags for your shopping. It’s really important to reduce waste. 4 ____ Do your shopping in small independent shops. Try regional food specialities and don’t miss farmers’ markets where you can discover delicious selections of meats, cheeses, and organic products. 5 ____ Once you’ve finished your trip, pass on your sightseeing guides and brochures to a friend or second-hand bookshop. You can also leave them at your hotel for another guest to use – that way you’ll have less to carry back home and someone else will take advantage of local attractions. 6 _____ Did you know you can take connecting trains from hundreds of European destinations direct to London’s King’s Cross Station? Planes produce huge amounts of pollution, so whenever possible consider travelling by train or coach. 7 ____ Before you book a package tour or an excursion, ask the tour operator about group size and the hotels you are going to stay in. Remember that smaller groups and smaller hotels are better for the environment. Local tourist guides are also an advantage. They can tell you more about local culture than any travel book. 3 z 10 WOJEWÓDZKIE KONKURSY PRZEDMIOTOWE 2014/2015 – GIMNAZJUM STOPIEŃ REJONOWY GRAMATYKA I ŚRODKI JĘZYKOWE (37 p.) Zadanie 3. (15 p.)
