TEMPTATION
Someone once said that temptation arises when
you're tired and weary, and the devil comes along
and makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. We've
heard this Gospel from Luke so many times that we
are very familiar with it. Yet something new can
always be perceived in this story. What strikes this
reader this year is the way that Jesus uses the
scriptures to answer his tempter each time. Even
when the evil one quotes scripture to tempt Jesus,
the Lord has a wise answer that shuts down his
tempter. Today's Gospel reading shows us that even
the devil can quote scripture for his own purposes.
But a correct interpretation can shut the door on this
kind of abuse of scripture.

FORTY DAYS
We can only imagine how hard a forty-day fast
would be, and how hungry we would be afterward.
To turn a stone into bread sounds like a harmless
and reasonable suggestion. If we look elsewhere in
the Gospels, however, we see Jesus enjoying many
meals, but always in the company of others. He
dines with Pharisees. He multiplies loaves and
fishes for large crowds. He invites the disciples to
join him for a breakfast on the beach after the
Resurrection. We see him embrace eating as a
communal act, always a sharing of self as well as a
breaking of bread. Today he is being tempted to
satisfy himself alone, ignoring that sharing of self
that is so important.
The second temptation is more obvious. To worship
the devil is something that Jesus sees right through.
He quotes scripture to silence his adversary.
The third is the most grandiose. To rule the whole
known world is a temptation to which many in our
own day succumb. The devil even uses scripture for
his own purposes here. Jesus quotes, with finality,
the scripture that puts an end to the tempting.
Jesus shows us that, with his help, we too can
overcome our temptations, reasonable as they may
sound.

PASTOR’S CORNER
Fr. Konstanty and I hope that you take full advantage of the Masses and devotions that are offered in the
parish during Lent. We will have Stations of the Cross on Thursdays (English) and Fridays (Polish) at 6:30
P.M. followed by Mass at 7:00 in the Chapel. Every Sunday, Gorskie Zale (Lenten Lamentations) will be
sung before the 11:30 Polish Mass.
As a traditional part of Lent here, we will have a Poor Man’s Supper of soup and bread on Saturday evening,
March 12th, in our cafeteria, followed by movie that is yet to be decided. It will be a religious movie that is
inspiring. The menu will consist of homemade vegetable soup, bread, butter, a beverage and dessert. The cost
for the meal is $6.00. Tickets will be available at the Rectory and in back of the Chapel.
If you are looking for something special to do for Lent: The Aid for Friends has been a most beneficial
program in our parish as we provide meals to the homebound in our parish and in the Bridesburg community.
We are grateful to the many men and women who provide meals and those who deliver them weekly. Service
and generosity are two of the primary missions of the Church and is an excellent way to live out the Season of
Lent in a very positive way. It is a great way to be a “Dynamic Catholic”. If you would like to participate in
this wonderful mission of service by making meals at home or delivering them to our shut-ins, please call Dori
Michalak (215-533-4787).
We thank the members of our Polish Community for their outstanding donation of $4,738.00 – the profit
realize from the Valentine’s Dance that was held in our auditorium on Saturday, January 31st. We thank them
for their efforts and donation. Bog Zaplac! (Thank You!)
OUR DYNAMIC CATHOLIC THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: Jesus came to set us free, but as men and
women we keep putting ourselves back into slavery---food, sex, money, gluttony, debt, etc. Recognize your
slavery and allow God to liberate you from it.
AND A SECOND THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: I have never met anyone who relied too much on the
Holy Spirit.
Remember the Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic:

GENEROSITY
EVANGELIZATION

Razem z Ks. Konstantym mamy nadzieję, że w pełni wykorzystacie Msze Św. i nabożeństwa, które
będą oferowane w parafii w czasie Wielkiego Postu.
z zupy i chleba w sobotę wieczorem, 12 marca, w naszej stołówce. Po wieczerzy pokaz Katolickiego filmu,
którego jeszcze nie wybraliśmy. Będzie to film religijny, który będzie inspirujący. Menu składa się z domowej
zupy warzywnej, pieczywa, masło, napoju i deseru.
wysiłki i darowizny. Bóg Zapłać! (Dziękuję Wam!)
Nasza Dynamiczna Katolicka Myśl Tygodnia: Jezus przyszedł, aby nas uwolnić, ale jako mężczyźni i
kobiety SAMI wracamy z powrotem do niewoli --- jedzenia, seksu, pieniędzy, obżarstwa, zadłużenia itp
Rozpoznaj swoje niewolnictwo i pozwól Bogu, aby wyzwolił Cię z niego.
A Druga Dynamiczna Katolicka Myśl Tygodnia: Nigdy nie spotkałem kogoś, kto polegał się zbytnio
na Ducha Świętego.
