Fifth Sunday of Easter
John 14:1–12
Jesus tells his disciples, “I am the way
and the truth and the life.”
Background on the Gospel Reading
The readings for the last few Sundays
have been about the Resurrection, but
today's Gospel takes us back in time to
an event in Jesus' life before his Passion. Jesus tells his disciples that he is
going to prepare a place for them in his
Father's house. He promises that where
he is going, his disciples will be able to
follow. Thomas, who will later doubt the disciples' reports that they
have seen the Risen Lord, contradicts Jesus by saying that the disciples don't know where Jesus is going or how to get there. Jesus explains that he himself is the way, the truth, and the life. In knowing and
loving Jesus, the disciples now love God the Father.
Philip then makes a request that challenges Jesus' words. Philip wants
Jesus to show the Father to the disciples. Recall that Jesus has just
told his disciples, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.” As a good teacher, Jesus responds to Philip by repeating and elaborating on what he
has just told the disciples: they have seen and known Jesus, so they
have seen and known the Father. Then Jesus offers another reassurance about his departure: because of faith in God and in Jesus, the
disciples will do the work that Jesus has done and more.
The connection between Jesus and his Father, between Jesus' work
and the work of the Father, is made clear in today's Gospel. Jesus is in
the Father, and God the Father is in Jesus. As God spoke his name to
Moses, “I am,” so too Jesus speaks his name to his disciples: “I am
the way and the truth and the life.”
The revelation of the Trinity is completed in the passage that follows
today's reading, and it is the Gospel for next Sunday. Because Jesus
goes away, the Father will send in Jesus' name the Advocate, the Holy
Spirit, who will continue the work of the Father and of Jesus.

Saint Rita of Cascia
Feast Day May 22
Blessed by God,
you were a light in darkness
through your steadfast courage
when you had to suffer such agony
upon your cross. You turned aside from this
vale of tears
to seek wholeness for your hidden wounds
in the great passion of Christ. . . .
You were not content with less than perfect
healing,
and so endured the thorn for fifteen years
before you entered into the joy
of your Lord.
This poem was engraved on the casket of St. Rita of Cascia
and is one of the few contemporary sources that tell us about her. St.
Rita received her “hidden wounds” in an unfortunate marriage. For
eighteen years she endured the abuses and infidelities of a violent
husband. She also suffered the rascality of two sons who were strongly influenced by him. She was delivered from these miserable circumstances in a horrific way: one day her husband was brought home
dead, brutally slashed by his enemies. Her rambunctious sons
planned to get revenge, but died before they could obtain it.
Rita was then free to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming
a nun. She applied to enter the Augustinian convent at Cascia of Italy,
in 1407. But her suffering was not over. Even though orders customarily received widows, the Augustinians three times refused Rita because she had been married. Only after six years did they acquiesce
and install her as a nun.
The poem said Rita “sought wholeness” in the passion of
Christ. In her meditations she preoccupied her imagination with his
agony. On Good Friday, 1441, she prostrated herself before a crucifix
and begged Christ for some small share of his suffering. As though
punctured by a crown of thorns, a single wound opened on Rita’s forehead. For fifteen years it caused her daily pain and embarrassed her,
as its putrid odor frequently offended her sisters. In 1450, when she
was preparing to visit Rome for the jubilee year, the wound temporarily
healed. But it reappeared when she returned to Cascia and remained
until her death.
Rita died of tuberculosis on May 22, 1457. Three days later,
Domenico Angeli, a notary of Cascia, recorded eleven miracles that
occurred upon the saint’s death. He left us this brief profile of her religious life:
A very honorable nun, Lady Rita, having spent forty years as
a nun in the cloister of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene of Cascia
by living with charity in the service of God, followed the destiny of every human being. God, in whose service she persevered for the aforementioned time—desiring to show all the faithful a model of life, so that
as she had lived serving God with love by fasting and prayer, they too,
all faithful Christians, would live also—worked many wonderful miracles and through the merits of Saint Rita, especially on 25 May 1457.
At every stage of her life, Rita seems to have bravely endured unendurable circumstances: frustration because her parents
overrode her wish to become a nun; married an abuser; refused three
times by the Augustinians; afflicted with the pain and embarrassment
of the stigmata. None of these things, however, prevented her from
serving God and her sisters. We can pray for her intercession in our
desperate need, but we should also imitate her love in action.

la verdad y la vida. Nadie va al Padre, sino por mí. Si me conocéis a mí, conoceréis también a mi Padre. Ahora ya lo conocéis
y lo habéis visto.
Felipe le dice:-- Señor, muéstranos al Padre y nos basta.Jesús
le replica:-- Hace tanto que estoy con vosotros, ¿y no me conoces, Felipe? Quien me ha visto a mí ha visto al Padre. ¿Cómo
dices tú: "Muéstranos al Padre"? ¿No crees que yo estoy en el
Padre, y el Padre en mí? Lo que yo os digo no lo hablo por
cuenta propia. El Padre, que permanece en mí, él mismo hace
las obras. Creedme: yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre en mí. Si
no, creed a las obras. Os lo aseguro: el que cree en mí, también él hará las obras que yo hago, y aún mayores. Porque yo
me voy al Padre.
Juan 14, 1-12
San Bernardino de Siena
20 de Mayo
San Bernardino nació en la Massa
Marittima de Toscana y perteneció a
la noble familia de los Albizeshi. Quedó huérfano de padre y madre antes
de cumplir los 7 años. A los 17, ingresó en una cofradía de Nuestra
Señora, cuyos miembros se comprometían a practicar ejercicios de piedad y cuidar a los enfermos. En Siena tomó el hábito franciscano y
en 1403 hizo sus votos en el convento de Colombaio, en las afueras de la ciudad. Un año más tarde, el día de la Natividad de la
Virgen, recibió la ordenación sacerdotal. Poco a poco Dios le preperaba para su doble misión de apóstol y reformador.
El Santo llegó a Milán en 1417, donde inició su carrera apostólica.
Predicó en toda Italia, viajaba a pie y aconsejaba la penitencia a
los que le oían, además de propagar la devoción al Santo Nombre
de Jesús. En 1430, San Bernardino tuvo que dejar el trabajo misional, al ser nombrado vicario general de los frailes de la estricta
observancia.Este movimiento de la Orden de San Francisco había
comenzado a mediados del siglo XIV en el convento de Brogliano,
entre Camerino y Asís, pero no logró imponerse hasta la época de
18 de Mayo de 2014
San Bernardino, quien fue su segundo fundador, organizador y
reformador. San Bernardino añoraba el trabajo apostólico directo,
por lo que en 1442 obtuvo del Papa la autorización de renunciar al
cargo de vicario general. Hizo misiones en Romaña, Ferrara y
Lombardía. Murió en Aquila, el 20 de mayo de 1444, víspera de la
Ascensión. Fue canonizado 6 años después de su muerte.
Santa Rita de Casia
22 de Mayo
Por siglos Santa Rita de Casia (1381-1457) ha
sido una de las Santas más populares en la Iglesia Católica. Ella es conocida como la "Santa de
lo Imposible" por sus impresionantes respuestas
a las oraciones, como también por los notables
sucesos de su propia vida.
Santa Rita quería ser monja, pero por obedecer
a sus padres, se casó. Su esposo le causo muchos sufrimientos, pero ella devolvió su crueldad
con oración y bondad. Con el tiempo él se convirtió, llegando a ser considerado y temeroso de Dios. Pero Santa Rita
tuvo que soportar un gran dolor cuando su esposo fue asesinado.
Rita descubrió después que sus dos hijos estaban pensando en vengar el asesinato del padre. Ella temía que pusieran sus deseos en
efecto de acuerdo con la maliciosa costumbre de la venganza. Con
un amor heroico por sus almas, ella le suplicó a Dios que se los llevara de esta vida antes de permitirlos cometer este gran pecado. No
mucho tiempo más tarde ambos murieron después de prepararse
para encontrarse con Dios.
Sin su esposo e hijos, Santa Rita se entregó a la oración, penitencia y
obras de caridad. Después de un tiempo ella aplicó para ser admitida
al Convento Agustiniano en Casia.
Ella no fue aceptada, pero después de orarle a sus tres especiales
santos patronos - San Juan Bautista, San Agustín y San Nicolás de
Tolentino - milagrosamente entró al convento y fue permitida a quedarse. Esto sucedió alrededor del año 1411.
En el convento, la vida de Santa Rita fue marcada por su gran caridad
y severas penitencias. Sus oraciones obtuvieron para otros, curas
notables, liberación del demonio y otros favores especiales de Dios
para que ella pudiera compartir en el dolor de Su Corona de Espinas,
Nuestro Señor dio a Santa Rita una herida de espina en su frente.
Fue muy dolorosa y expelía un olor desagradable, pero ella lo consideraba una gracia divina. Ella oraba "Oh amado Jesús, aumenta mi
paciencia en la medida que aumentan mis sufrimientos". La herida
duró por el resto de su vida.
Santa Rita falleció un 22 de mayo de 1457 a la edad de 76 años. La
gente se agolpó al convento a pagar sus últimos respetos. Innumerables milagros tuvieron lugar a través de su intercesión, y la devoción
hacia ella se extendió a lo largo y a lo ancho. El cuerpo de Santa Rita
fue conservado perfecto por varios siglos, y a veces daba una fragancia dulce. En la ceremonia de beatificación, el cuerpo de la Santa se
elevó y abrió sus ojos.
Dios ha escuchado las oraciones de Santa Rita por otros en innumerables ocasiones, y ciertamente ella estará feliz de interceder una vez
más, a nombre de aquellos que le ruegan a ella ahora - para continuar percibiendo la verdad de su gran nombre.

Znacie drogę, dokąd Ja idę. Odezwał się do Niego
Tomasz: Panie, nie wiemy, dokąd idziesz. Jak więc
możemy znać drogę? Odpowiedział mu Jezus: Ja
jestem drogą i prawdą, i życiem. Nikt nie przychodzi
do Ojca inaczej jak tylko przeze Mnie. Gdybyście
Mnie poznali, znalibyście i mojego Ojca. Ale teraz już
Go znacie i zobaczyliście. Rzekł do Niego Filip: Panie,
pokaż nam Ojca, a to nam wystarczy. Odpowiedział
mu Jezus: Filipie, tak długo jestem z wami, a jeszcze
Mnie nie poznałeś? Kto Mnie zobaczył, zobaczył
także i Ojca. Dlaczego więc mówisz: Pokaż nam
Ojca? Czy nie wierzysz, że Ja jestem w Ojcu, a Ojciec
we Mnie? Słów tych, które wam mówię, nie
wypowiadam od siebie. Ojciec, który trwa we Mnie,
On sam dokonuje tych dzieł. Wierzcie Mi, że Ja
jestem w Ojcu, a Ojciec we Mnie. Jeżeli zaś nie wierzcie przynajmniej ze względu na same dzieła.
Zaprawdę, zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Kto we Mnie
wierzy, będzie także dokonywał tych dzieł, których Ja
dokonuję, owszem, i większe od tych uczyni, bo Ja
idę do Ojca.

Liczba ofiar przekracza już dwa miliardy ludzkich istnień.
Każdego dnia ginie kolejne 50 tysięcy dzieci w łonach
matek.
Wielu ludzi w ogóle nie chce mieć dzieci.
Coraz powszechniejsze stają się środki niszczące
płodność i życie.
Narasta niepłodność małżonków.
Ludzkie dziecko staje się produktem nowoczesnej
technologii, dawcą komórek i organów.
„Wytwarza się” dzieci o określonych cechach, pozostałe
poddając selekcji.
Setki tysięcy zamrożonych poczętych dzieci czeka w
ciekłym azocie pomiędzy życiem a śmiercią.
Międzynarodowe prawo stanowione przez ludzi odmawia
ochrony prawnej życiu poczętego dziecka.
Kolejne kraje legalizują eutanazję.
Narasta atak na małżeństwo i rodzinę.
Najświętsza Matko!
Obiecujemy Ci, że ze wszystkich sił będziemy chronić
ludzkie życie, zwłaszcza małe i bezbronne.
Stajemy przed Tobą, Matko Zbawiciela, z pełną

Katolickiego „Niedziela”. Znajdziemy
tam bardzo ciekawe artykuły na temat
życia kościoła w Polsce także naszej
Archidiecezji. Czytając ten tygodnik a
także inne publikacje np.: „Różaniec”,
„Anioł stróż”, „W Naszej Rodzinie”,
„Tak rodzinie” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do
Boga i Kościoła.
